At this point, I’m just here to ramble my thoughts on the fandom while I bs through college. šŸ’€
I love seeing people’s takes on the nations because so many forget they canonically hate their bosses/governments sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, I know firsthand what it’s like to have complicated feelings about your own country, but I don’t think you can easily group a nation as just bad or just good. That’s the exact reason why I don’t do 2ps, because I think it’s wild and a bit naĆÆve to view/depict a country, its history, and behavior as literally black and white with the 1ps being ā€œgoodā€ and the 2ps being ā€œbad.ā€ I got more thoughts on the 2ps, particularly some of the egregious descriptions on the wiki and why I don’t like the idea of these nations being sex offenders, but that’s a ramble for later.
Crazy that when I first got into Hetalia in 2017, I saw people constantly baby the nations, and now in 2025, y’all are just framing them as the Legion of Doom—how did this happen?
Politics and Hetalia will always be tied as history and politics are, but I feel the nations can be used as a critique of their governments while also representing their people. For example: I personally see Alfred as a moderate Republican in the way that Fitz from Scandal was. Stupid with too much money and ego, blinded by his ambitions but still maintaining a human touch, wanting to do good with bloodstains on his hands—wild how similar their personalities are, at least in my eyes. They’re both capitalistic nepo babies but they’re also decent men (as decent as a literal landmass and a cheating manwhore of a president can be); as gung-ho Alfred is, I feel he would support gun control proposals, as a he’s a man who’s responsible enough to own carry licenses for every state and know proper gun care, but simultaneously old enough to see how firearms and warfare have changed and that it’s irresponsible to assume everyone holding a gun is of sound mind.
Alfred probably has a few moments where he wasn’t sound mind, and that would be enough to scare him straight.
I also feel he wouldn’t be as Christian as some think, more lax when it comes to religion. Sure, he’ll go to church on Easter—and that’s the only time you’ll see him there. He probably had a phase where he was more conservative, but he’s young, physically nineteen, and has likely shifted with the tides. He’s not a prude when it comes to sex, he’s from the late 1500s/early 1600s. By the time he was sixteen/seventeen and fighting in the revolution, he was surrounded by manwhores and rakes. If the Founding Fathers didn’t care, why make the assumption he would? Now I’m not saying he’s sleeping around and being the community bike, but that’s he probably had a phase where he did and is more nonchalant about it. At his core, he’s nineteen. He’s not a firm rooted sixty-something, he’s a young adult who lies and says he’s twenty-one on his ID so he can drink in peace. His beliefs may be more Republican, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to say he’d have progressive ideas. He’s across the aisle, not firmly planted on one side.
I use Alfred as my example due to me being American, African-American to be exact, so I think I have a good feel on what my country would be as a person—or at least what you’d expect him to be. He’s a dumbass but intelligent, economically conservative but socially progressive, he’s a loud social butterfly who enjoys his own company; he’s a walking contradiction, and I think that’s exactly how the nations should be. Their beliefs and ideas as people are what makes them (peculiar) humans.
And truthfully, I think the nations with the worst skeletons in their closets are the Old World nations, because at least Alfred grew up and became an adult in modern-ish times so he quickly caught on to modern ideals. The Old Coots probably need more time adjusting from their long-held beliefs.

Fleeting Thought: I’m not really fond of the idea of Statetalia, but I find it interesting how it exposes a lot of people’s unconscious bias.

I usually wouldn’t post this kind of things on my blog, but keeping to a niche and curated corner of the Hetalia fandom can really make you temporarily forget how gutterbutt the fandom is in regards to the only two black characters in the show.
Prefacing this with, yes, I am a black woman who’s been into Hetalia since 2017. I joined during the odd period when the fandom was quiet, left a bit, and returned in 2023 when I thought most of the toxicity was gone.
I was scrolling through Tiktok and saw a video where people left their most unhinged Hetalia headcanons, and while I did expect something crazy, I wasn’t expecting this…
Tumblr media
I thought I was tripping, but then I checked their page to see if this is just simple trolling, or if I’m just thinking too much into it.
Tumblr media
Suffice it to say, I see the company they keep. Mind you, according to their bio, they’re not black. They claim to be Filipina, which makes these videos even weirder. Especially since they joke about her saying the n-word and defend it with ā€œshe’s fictional.ā€ (see screenshot below from another video)
Tumblr media
I know so many people prefer to have a ā€œdon’t like, just scrollā€ mentality, but this is just really disgusting. Of course, I don’t want to cause any harassment sent this person’s way, but I do feel we need to have a through talk on how this fandom interacts with Cuba and Seychelles—especially Cuba, he’s always being portrayed as angry and violent (which is partially the show’s fault), but it’s rare to see people depict him outside of having distaste for America. A lot of characters get treated with proper care and respect, but as someone who’s been in this fandom since 2017, I still remember seeing Seychelles get bashed and demeaned as ā€œjust being in the wayā€ of Fruk.
And this is more than just Hetalia, fandom as a whole has always been racist. I guess it’s best to just avoid Hetatok for a good while—especially with how many comments were laughing and having a ki with them (and I highly doubt the folks engaging in that are black). I guess my point in rambling here is that it’s just tiring being black in fandom.

Welcome to my blog!
This blog will be primarily writings, drabbles, reblogs, and whatever else I am inclined to post. I strive to stay within the confines of historical Hetalia, but I will also write about my original character, Lady Naberrie of Hyrule - based on, but not the Hyrule from the Zelda franchise, more like a heavily changed, liberally creative, alternate version of Hyrule that better fits within the confines of Hetalia.
Use the navigation on the side panels or the mobile links below for convenience. Enjoy! ~ā™”
