it makes me upset when i see people talking about how narcissists are bad people and you should avoid them at all costs because theyre going to hurt you or use you or whatever it is. not all narcissists are bad people. the disorder does not automatically make you a bad person or abusive. as a matter of fact, all of the people with npd that i’ve met have been some of the kindest, most supportive people ever.

there is a a lot of misinformation online. for example, the “black eyes” of a narcissist trend on tiktok. i’ve seen lots of posts on reddit or tiktok or what be it about how all narcissists play the victim, manipulate, or gaslight to get their way, how you have to walk on eggshells and we’re abusive, etc etc. the list goes on and on and on.

“narcissistic abuse” isn’t narcissistic abuse — it’s physical abuse, emotional/psychological abuse, etc. i’m not saying this to downplay abuse by any means, because nobody should ever have to go through that, however there are better ways to phrase it. by saying “narcissistic abuse”, you are further stigmatizing and demonizing the disorder. you could instead say, “i was physically abused” or “i was ___” by my [insert relationship dynamic here].

for everyone that has experienced abuse by the hands of someone with this disorder, or even at all, i sincerely apologize and wish you nothing but the best. you never deserved that and i hope that you are able to heal. i’m sending you so much love.

narcs are human too. many of us are really good people. i myself have been diagnosed with npd and yes, for a very long time i was a bitch. i did play the victim, my loved ones did have to walk on eggshells around me, however after a lot of work and a lot of conscious effort, i changed that. it’s very discouraging and upsetting to see misinformation and to see the demonizing of disorders. cluster b people are human too. we deserve the same kindness and respect that everyone else does. being diagnosed with cluster b disorders don’t automatically make us a bad person.
