the gut-punch i got at the end of the last of us game when they revealed that joel and ellie made up the night before he dies. reliving his death with that knowledge of their relationship. it’s a huge part of the storytelling and they just revealed it?? not even another fake-out that joel and ellie still aren’t talking (like cutting after ellie says “but i can’t forgive you for this)….

Showing Joel lying to another person about his actions in front of Ellie and for her, that confirming that he lied about the fireflies was honestly chef’s kiss.

Yes, it could’ve been like in the game, but I think Ellie seeing in third person how easy it was for Joel to make up the lie and realising he did the same to her had to hurt even more, that last flicker of hope and trust that she had for him was snuffed out.
