m2 was so genius for setting its story in two distinct seasons

i want a game where the mafia are at their peak, where the commission all gather together for a high profile high tension high security meeting. this is a big deal. and a bomb goes off, killing almost all of them. the survivors are in hospital under watch and cannot command their empires from there. the remaining family members scatter like rats. they go underground. they refuse to contact anyone without going through like 5 different people to create a wide enough distance to claim ignorance of the communication, of the subject matter. and by the time you get your orders, how do you even know if it’s the original message? how do you know someone hasn’t changed it along the way? how do you know who you’re working for? i want wiretaps and snitches and undercover agents and surveillance photos and guys in trench coats and hats who seem to be following the mc in cutscenes and free roam. every interaction with another mafioso could mean ruin, death. you have to watch your step. i want an atmosphere of paranoia so suffocating that you question everything and everyone, until you find out that you, the mc, planted the bomb. that the feds have your balls in a vise. that there’s a reason why no one talks to you, why no one trusts you, why you seem to be being followed. you thought you had it all figured out, didn’t you? you didn’t think anyone would notice?
