To say that current events of the world are surreal is an understatement. I quite literally cannot make sense of the ways things are changing.

Most of the world has come to a screeching halt - but the emergency room never will.

I suspect that the moments we are living and the stories we are writing will go down in history - It’s hard to even believe that WE are the ones putting the pen to paper. Surreal.

Walking into work through all of the barriers and warning signs feel surreal. Starting tomorrow, we will be screened for fevers before we can even clock in. Surreal.

Refreshing Facebook to see covid updates of healthcare workers in critical condition is surreal.

Honestly, I feel like I’m living in the twilight zone. Everything has changed, but we remain the same. I have trouble sleeping at night because I worry about the safety of my coworkers who, when it comes down to it, are a whole lot more like family. My anxiety is at an all time high, as I see the strain of this virus on so many people that I love. Bad dreams wake me up after every shift. Surreal.

To my healthcare fam - I am in honor of your bravery and courage. I see the way you continue to show up for work despite the worsening conditions and the number of cases that just keep piling up. I see you, worried about your kids at home, but nevertheless pushing forward and taking care of your patients like you promised you would (but never thought you’d have to). I see the sweat building up as you change your isolation gown and head into another procedure. I see your hands, raw from being overworked and over washed. I see your personal paper bag with the mask you will have to reuse again on your next shift. I see it all.

I see you, and I appreciate you. Thank you for all you do. Thank you for being a hero every single day that you come into this building. Please don’t ever doubt or underestimate the impact you are making. And thank you for trying to keep me laughing, despite the heaviness that hangs in the air all around us.

2011- speak now era and a picture “with” Taylor 😂 (age 18)

2012 - RED. Walgreens merch and pit tickets. I had the time of my life. (Age 19)

2014- Taylor swift experience at LA live, and meeting swifties at We Can Survive (age 21)

2015- 1989 tour, “we ❤️ Becky” poster, and dancing with mama swift in the sound booth (FINALLY feeling 22)

2017 - reputation release day with swifties (age 24 - am I supposed to be acting like a grownup now?!)

2018 - rep tour opening night. Glendale, AZ. (Age 25 and definitely not an adult yet)

2019- lover release day (age 26 - still fangirling)

@taylorswift I’ve been loving you a whole long time. Thank you for continuing to show up and continuing to love us in real ways, even when times are hard. I promise to never go anywhere, even when times are hard. I can’t wait to make more memories with you in just 274 days (but honestly baby who’s counting...)

I said in an interview 13 years ago "I'm just hoping that I have a second album that does as well as the first and someday get to be a headliner, and always be the same person that I started out as.” Scrolling through your posts today has me feeling all the feelings & I want to thank you. Because of you, there was a 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th and 7th album. You guys made me into a headliner because you wanted to see me play. And your support all these years is what’s helped me stay true to that kid I was when I started out. #13YearsOfTaylor

I wrote this about the release of rep, but it’s even more true today.

Thank you for changing my life and our world 13 years ago, @taylorswift.

We are better, more self aware, more confident adults because we were given the opportunity to grow up alongside you. And for that I am eternally grateful.

PS: “If you’re lucky enough to be different, don’t ever change” is still my life motto. Someday I’ll get to tell you about it in person ❤️

What reputation means to me

When I️ was 15 and a teenager fiercely seeking independence, she released a song that reminded us all to appreciate and love our parents. She pleaded with us to remember that they were the ones who would swoop in and save them every time we needed saving. She reminded us to thank them for protecting us, loving us, and giving us all of our best days.  

When I️ was 17 trying desperately to recover from years of torture from high school bullies, she released a song about bullies and mean people of all kinds. She talked about not even feeling okay because of all their hurtful words, and most importantly, she emphasized learning to rise above these people and their words to create your own success story.

When I️ was 19, she released a song about what it’s like to be in your 20s, to feel “happy free confused and lonely at the same time”. To feel like you’re simultaneously living the dream and somehow also feeling isolated and confused. Amen, sister.

When I️ was 21, she released a fun, lighthearted song about not letting the haters get you down. She reminded us to keep dancing, keep living, and keep our lights shining bright. She asked us to brush off hateful comments, judgemental people, and to just keep being unapologetically REAL regardless of what others think.

And now, in 2017, in the middle of a messy, messy, world, she releases an album with a message more important and more relevant than ever before. No, I️ can’t say I️ relate to being madly in love, or to saying that I’m doing better now than I️ ever was before, but heres what I️ have learned that I can relate to, and it’s important:

No matter what you do, people will always hate you, break you, and make you out to be something you’re not. If you live your life trying to please an audience of millions, you are bound to fail 100% of the time. Sometimes these false perceptions will be an innocent misunderstanding, but other times it’s a result of actual intended malice- people who intend to hurt you, and you let them succeed. They spread this false image of you so far and wide that even YOU begin to believe it’s the truth. And that’s the most dangerous part of all. So at some point in your life, you must make the conscious decision to choose to believe in your true self, and refuse to believe in the “you” that the world has made you out to be. And only when you do that will you achieve true, real, raw, genuine happiness.

Thank you, @taylorswift, for sharing your music, and your heart, but more than anything, for being willing to spread a message of self-love and acceptance no matter how many people told you to keep quiet.
