goddamn i opened tiktok and 4 videos in a row were about unstanning taylor. it feels very 2016 reminiscent tbh. and i mean that as like, this is what happens when the general public moves into extreme celebrity worship-- the come down is always drastic.

it's been a year now of this mass general worshipping of taylor, in a way that puts her on this pedestal where she's expected to be the perfect person. and when she isn't, bc she is flawed and makes mistakes and is sometimes downright wrong, people jump to "she is EVIL!!!" rather than have a normal regulated emotional reaction like "hmm this is disappointing and I disagree with her on this".

the pendulum swings way too far in either direction. both the hate she gets and the worshipping she gets are wild and get out of control so fast. the convos ive been seeing also just truly rehash drama we've had time and time again with taylor. her celebrity status, her wealth, her general unwillingness to use her platform to impact social issues. we've been here before yall. but because so many new people in the past few years have gone from "i like her music" to "i worship the ground she walks on" without any past context it's like... when she continues to do what she does people are shocked and the anger is now so much bigger.

and it's like... yeah! she needs to fucking be better!! cut the jet trips, speak the fuck up on important issues... 100%. but to jump from "she is a god" to "she is truly the worst person ever" ???? there isn't critical thought there lmao. multiple things can be true at the same time. people are complicated. she can both be extremely generous and make donations in every city she tours in and also be far fucking out of touch and use her private jet too much and stay silent on issues she could make a huge positive social impact on. both of those are true!

how many times will we need to relive this. people have got to stop with the total and absolute worship of celebrities. if you find yourself a fan of someone to the extent that you cannot critique them, that's a problem. if you find yourself to hate someone to the extent that you blow every single thing they do into the worst thing in the world, that's a problem.
