Little steps (George Weasley x reader) | pt 5 - Affirmation
Pairing: George Weasley x reader
Part 1 • Part 2 • Part 3 • Part 4
Word count: 1652
Summary: Y/N visits Grimmauld Place for the weekend and on her last evening she stays up late with George.
warnings: none, fluffy fluff
a/n: We’ve reached the finale, my loves. It’s been nice, I hope you liked it. As always, let me know what you thought I listened to Imagine Dragons - Only; or HUNGER - amused while writing the ending, if that interests anybody 😅
The second gif was made by yours truly

July, 1995
From the very start, you knew these summer holidays were going to be unlike any other. You were still going out with your friends in London – Merlin, you even got back on speaking terms with Matt, after he pulled his head out of his ass. But the night after Voldemort came back Dumbledore assembled the Order of the Phoenix, an organisation that was going to oppose him.
It didn’t mean much to you just yet – all the adults were keeping you and your friends in the dark. Your family, or rather its adult members, were a part of it. That meant they visited the Weasleys, who were now living at the headquarters in London, a few times since July started almost two weeks ago.
You went in and out of there quickly a couple of times – you even managed to convince Molly to let Ron go out with you and your friends. George saw you flash through the staircase opening, but you were gone before you could notice him.

Simply perfect ♥️
Little steps (George Weasley x reader) | pt 4 - Attention
Pairing: George Weasley x reader, OC x reader
Part 1 • Part 2 • Part 3
Summary: Y/N and George try to figure out what the Yule Ball changed in their relationship; life gets back to normal and goes on, Y/N is a confused teenager™ and has a hard time sorting her shit out
Word count: 6897
warnings: cursing, mentions of sexual themes, mentions of alcohol, canon character death
a/n: It’s a wild ride and honestly I don’t know what else to say about it. I hope I left as little mistakes as possible, it’s long. The next part will be the last, my dears. Also, I’m not sure if drinking lemon balm tea is a thing outside of where I’m from so I’m sorry if you got confused 😅 - I drink it and I like it.

Walking up the curved steps you felt his tingling gaze, you held your breath in, until you were out of sight, and you seemed to shake more with each step you took. The door handle to your room felt colder than ever.
You stepped into the room where Hermione was getting ready for a shower, picking up her cosmetics, you felt dazed as if you just stepped out of a fairy tale and you didn’t know how to function in the normal world anymore. So you closed the door behind you, your friend stopping in her tracks, trying to read you. You took a deep breath, leaning your back against the door and looked into her eyes – and that anchored you. Tonight really did happen, in the real world. Your face broke into a huge smile and you didn’t have to say anything, you just squealed and charged at her – both of you jumping grinning like fools, squeezing each other tight.

Absolutely adored it 😍
Little steps (George Weasley x reader) | pt 3 - Awe
Pairing: George Weasley x reader, (hinted) OC x reader
Part 1 • Part 2
Word count: 3254
Summary: Y/N and George deal with everyone around them with a week left to the ball, and then the big moment comes
warnings:  probably cursing, but nothing worse
a/n: it’s long but I’m not sorry this time. Next part will most likely be huge too, because I don’t really feel like dividing it up more, but maybe I’ll have to?..

George closed the door to his dorm room behind him and paused for a second, leaning back on it. “How’s the schoolboy doing? Library air working wonders?” His brother looked up at him before going back to the ‘Which broomstick?’ issue Lee and him were huddled over. His first instinct was to get back at Fred for that lazy jab, but he didn’t, too dazed to care. He came over to his bed and plopped down onto it.
“I asked Y/N to the ball.” Both his roommates snickered and looked up at him. When he didn’t continue, they looked at each other, then back at George. “You did?” Asked Fred, to which George answered with a confirming  “mhmm”.

Brought Together-George Weasley x Reader
Tumblr media
(GIF credit to @tanrininsonteki)
(I’ve written loads about Fred, George needed some love too!)
Summary: Who ever gets over the death of their brother? The death of their son? A friend? (Y/N) and the twins were always together, as if joined at the hip (or hips rather). But once the trio became a duo, one person had to become stronger than the other, pushing down their emotions and feelings to help the person they loved; because when things are put in perspective, it’s so obvious who their soulmate should be.
Characters: George Weasley x Reader, Weasley family x Reader (platonic), mentions of Fred Weasley
Meanings: (Y/N)=Your name
Warnings: Lots and lots of fluff, death, mourning, suppressed feelings/emotions
                                            *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
My body was numb. Whether it was from exhaustion, shock, trauma, fear or the wounds scattered across my body, it didn’t matter to me, I couldn’t bring myself to move. With my knees hunched up to my chest, my hand tightly gripped onto my wand, showing how much I was shaking. A shadow cast over me, but I didn’t move my head. In my peripheral vision, I saw someone sit next to me, gently taking my wand away before I snapped it in half.
“You haven’t moved. It’s over now (Y/N).”
George saddled up to me, slowly put an arm around my shoulders. I leaned into him, letting him rest his chin on top of my head. My hand grabbed his free one, guiding it to wrap it around my waist, pulling him close for a hug. It felt relieving to have human contact, to feel someone else’s heartbeat, knowing that they were alive here with me. There was too much blood, too much crying, too many friends lying dead or unconscious on the stone floor. Although fear had been pulsing through my body throughout the entire time we were fighting, my mind wouldn’t accept the concept of anyone dying; yet here I sat, having watch the life drained away from one of my best friends.
“George?” I suddenly gasped, pulling away from him.
His eyes widened at my movement.“What?”
“You’re here, aren’t you? George, please don’t tell me I’m imagining you?!” my voice raised as I panicked, and George tried to shush me. I was disrupting the first sign of peace.
“Yes, yes, (Y/N) I’m here. I’m real,” tears started rolling down his cheeks, but he attempted a smile,“I’m not leaving you. I won’t ever leave you.”
I groaned as I picked up another box, feeling the pain in my back. At ‘Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes’, we were re-stocking for the beginning of the Christmas season, changing around the shop to give it a fresh look. George was rolling up his sleeves, stepping back from the display he created. I approached him, standing with my arms crossed as I admired his work.
“I like it.” I simply said.
“Just like?” George nudged me with his elbow.
I smiled, rolling my eyes.“You know what I meant.”
“Come on, I’ll help you with the last boxes.”
“You don’t have to George. Have a break.”
He walked past me.“Nonsense. We’ve got places to be.”
“What do you mean?”
“Drinks after work of course. Seeing as it’s just us today, I thought we could head to the Three Broomsticks, like we used to.”
I blushed, happy that he turned away from me to not see it. Following after him, I tried not to stare too much as he decided how we should set out the certain product. When he was engulfed in his work, something that he was so passionate about, it was like I was seeing the old George, the cheeky chap from school (not that he wasn’t cheeky anymore). These small moments were captured in my memories, pushing back the old, terrible ones. He deserved to be happy, especially when all he wanted to do was make other people laugh with the jokes and pranks they sold.
We managed to finish the new displays within the next hour, meaning it was time for us to relax with a good drink. It wasn’t going to be a night of getting drunk, just two…friends enjoying each other’s company. Wrapping up warm, George locked up, holding out his arm to me as we hurried to the pub, wanting to be out of the cold as soon as possible. Once at the Three Broomsticks, we were easily able to find a table, being served instantly as it wasn’t busy, only a few locals filled the space.
“Actually,” George started after setting his drink down,“I’ve been meaning to ask you something.”
There was that blush again. It seemed that words didn’t want to form.“Hm?”
“Well, obviously you’re always welcome round mine. But I was wondering if you wanted to come over for Christmas? Not the actual day cause I know you’ll be with your family, but just before-”
“Yes.”
“What?”
“What?”
He chuckled.“That didn’t take much persuasion, did it?”
“I love your family. You didn’t even need to ask. But you sounded nervous.”
“Did I?”
I nodded, taking a sip of my drink.
“W-well, I…I don’t know what you’re talking about.” he looked everywhere except in my direction.“You ever seen me nervous?”
I giggled.“You don’t remember asking me to the Yule Ball-”
He waved his hands dismissively, which only made me laugh harder.“We said to never speak of that again, remember?”
I shrugged, a grin still on my face.“I still think it was more cute than nervous.”
Now it was his turn to tease me.“You think I’m cute?”
“Thought, I thought the whole idea was cute. But you can’t deny that it wasn’t a good night.”
“No, that was fun.” we were both in thought.“You looked beautiful in that dress.”
I waited for a snarky remark, but nothing came.“But?”
“What do you mean, ‘but’?”
“Oh, usually you just…never mind.”
“Anyway,” George cleared his throat,“you know mum wouldn’t take no for an answer, so you’ll have to pack a bag to stay a few nights.”
I laughed.“I would expect nothing less. Gosh, what to get all you Weasley’s for Christmas?”
“Don’t be daft. You don’t need to get everyone presents.”
“Of course I do!”
“Tell you what, why don’t we join up for presents? Buy them together.”
“You know what George, that’s probably the best idea you’ve had for a while.” I smirked.
He scoffed a laugh.“Right, I know I offered to buy the drinks, but that stops now!”
We had a few weeks before my time at the Weasley’s, meaning we were able to think and buy everyone’s presents. During lunch breaks or on days off, we would scour the shops, coming out of them with bags and bags hanging off our arms. I was always excited to see my second family, and Christmas was a fun, special time of year for everyone. The night before we were set to visit them, I stayed with George as we had to set off early the next morning. It was lovely when we stayed with each other.
“I know you only clean this place up when I come round, just admit it!” I giggled as we laid in bed facing the other, discarded chocolate wrappings scattered between us.
George laughed with me, rolling onto his back, looking up at the ceiling. As we calmed down, I bundled up into a tight ball, feeling a slight chill, which George noticed. He said nothing as he leaned his upper body off of the bed, grabbing a blanket from who knows where before wrapping it around me. My gaze remained on him as he tucked me in, enjoying the small amount of attention. Feeling hands on me made butterflies emerge in my stomach, and the caring side to him was the sweetest thing I had ever seen.
“I will admit, I did buy that blanket just for you. You complained about being cold enough to drive me mad.” he smirked.
I clutched onto the soft fabric.“Well, if you’re going to speak to me like that, then I guess I’ll just leave."
He tucked his arms beneath his head, closing his eyes slowly."Go on then. See you later."
When neither of us moved, we tried to contain our laughter, both failing miserably as our cackles rang out in his bedroom. It was like our sleepovers we had when we were much younger, they stopped as we…changed at a certain age.
“Are you sure everyone will like their presents?” I wondered.
He sighed lightly.“We’ve been over this. You could pick up a weed from our own garden and they would fawn over it. It’s not the gift they want, it’s you."
My mouth open, prepared to protest against him as he teased me again, but I was stuck for words."George…that’s a lovely thing to say."
His head lolled to face me, his face scrunching up in disgust."I take it back."
"No!” I quickly said.“You can’t pretend you didn’t say that!"
"Say what?” he teased.
“George!"
Carrying everyone’s presents in our arms, George and I prepared ourselves for the onslaught of hugs and kisses we would be attacked with before we could even set down any of the presents or our bags. We were still a few steps away from the door when it was fiercely pulled open, Molly squealing and throwing her arms up in joy.
“Oh, you’re here! Arthur, they’re here!” she was beaming.
She hastily took the presents from George’s arms, impatiently ushering him inside as Arthur (who was a bit more reserved) took my presents, before I gave him a quick kiss on the cheek as a greeting. Once all of our belongings were set down, proper hugs were given, just as bone crushing as they usually were.
“Oh, it’s so lovely to have you over dear.” Molly gushed.
“Mum, she was here a month ago.” George said.
“Well, it wouldn’t matter if it was just a day, I would miss her the same amount.”
I smiled at her.“Thank you Molly. See George, maybe you should be as kind as your mum.”
“I see you everyday, that’s almost too much for me.”
“Well, Ginny and Harry should be arriving tonight, Ron is already here, I think Hermione is supposed to be coming tonight too, but I’m not sure when, Bill and Fleur-”
Molly continued explaining the plan for the next couple of days, but I was distracted by George talking to his dad. Their voices were hushed, they kept side glancing at us as they spoke, before a shy smile emerged on George’s face. I somehow went back to Molly’s explanation, pretending that I had heard everything she said. Politely nodding, I was relieved that she started asking me about myself, changing the topic of conversation, even though my mind was occupied with someone else.
Everyone had arrived as the evening came, squeezing into the house and around the long table. As we sat down to eat, I noticed an empty chair besides George, realising who should have been there. My breath got caught in my throat at the sight, not hearing George call my name until he placed his hand on top of mine.
“You OK?” he whispered.
“Um…” my head slowly turned to face him.“Yeah, sorry. I’m fine.”
“It’s strange, isn’t it? What I mean is, it’s weird to think he’s…he’s not here.”
I squeezed his hand, but before I could say anything, Arthur stood, preparing to make a speech. Keeping my hand in George’s, I listened just like everyone else, trying to push away the flashes of Fred filling my mind.
“Well, I know it’s a bit early to be celebrating Christmas, but we know that you all have your own plans for this year, now that you’re grown up. But it is important to ensure that we get together, especially during this season about love, giving gifts, drinking, eating, and spending time with family and friends, because…because you never know what the future holds. And I think…no, I know that the last year has taught us all that.”
People were either getting teary eyes, already crying, or had a solemn look on their faces. Glances towards the empty seat were common. I didn’t wince as George’s grip tightened, strongly pinching my skin. Keeping my head down, I suppressed any tears, taking in a deep breath as Arthur managed to carry on.
“I just want you all to know, that I love you, your mother and I love you. And for those extended family, (Y/N), Harry, Hermione, Fleur, Audrey, we love you just as much. You’re our family too. We need to make every moment count, make every moment special. So, with that being said, let’s have some fun tonight!”
We raised our glasses, clinking them all together before drinking. I took a big gulp, and then another as the chatter built up again. Once we were done with food and the conversations afterwards, we were going to start playing games, lifting up the atmosphere in the room. Before it started, I excused myself, not that anyone took much notice. Scurrying upstairs, I tried to slow down my breathing as I shut myself in my designated room, covering my mouth to silence my cries. I collapsed back onto the bed, head in my hands as I felt tears try to stream down my face. My shoulders shook as I forced myself to make no noise. The door opened, causing me to flinch back, even though it was George.
“(Y/N)? Why are you crying?” he panicked, immediately kneeling in front of me.
I shook my head that was back hiding in my hands.
“Hey, come on, you can talk to me. Did someone say something?”
I sniffled, looking away from him.“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t be crying, it’s not fair.”
“What do you mean?”
“Just seeing Fred’s chair…without him in it, it was heartbreaking. And, and I know you and your family have to deal with that every day for the rest of your lives but…but I miss him so much George!”
“It’s alright. Hey, I’m here.” he moved to sit beside me, holding my close.
“I’ve always wanted to make sure you were happy, and I knew that if I started crying like this then it would make things worse. He was your twin brother. What right do I have to be like this?”
“Listen to yourself,” he softly said, gently pushing me away so that I would look him in the eyes,“you’ve never mourned properly. You heard my dad downstairs, you’re family. Fred loved you, you loved him, we were the best of friends us three! The fact that you’ve not let out all of this makes me worried. It’s not healthy.”
“I know, I just couldn’t stand to see you upset anymore. I wanted to make you happy.”
“You do make me happy (Y/N). You make me extremely happy by just being with me, by just being you. You’re right, all those times I saw your smile, I smiled. Making you laugh is one of the best things in the world, and the fact that I can see you everyday, well, I couldn’t ask for anything more. I just wished that you had been able to talk to me about this, you know I’m always here for you.”
“I should have, I realised that now. But when you would start to let everything out to me, I couldn’t bring myself to say anything, I felt like I was adding to your trauma and making it about myself. And after relentless weeks of nightmares, nightmares that involved you dying alongside Fred, it would all disappear from my mind once I saw you.”
His hand pushed away the hair stuck to my wet face, sadly smiling.“I understand. Promise me that you’ll tell me about these sort of things?”
I nodded.“I promise. I’m sorry that I didn’t speak to you sooner.”
“Don’t apologise. You have nothing to apologise for.”
Strangely, we both leaned in towards each other, quickly kissing. We didn’t pull away a lot, kissing once again, though this one was firmer and more confident. It wasn’t leading to anything, it was something we both wanted but knew tonight wasn’t the right time to go too deep into this. After a few seconds apart, I couldn’t help it, I had to kiss him again.
“My dad asked about us earlier. After hearing that we bought presents together and stayed with each other, he was wondering if something had finally happened.”
“Glad he’s not the only one wanting something to happen between us.”
“We’ll definitely talk about this tomorrow. But just so you know, I enjoyed that.” George said.
“I did too.” I mumbled, suddenly becoming shy.“And thank you for always being there George. I will get better at expressing my feelings in the moment.”
“I just hope you know that it doesn’t matter how you’re feeling; happy, sad, excited, annoyed, you can tell me anything. And also, if Fred was here, he would have certainly burst in and ruined the moment.”
I giggled.“You’re not wrong there. Perhaps he’s watching down on us know, wishing he could have put some sort of plan into action to embarrass us.”
“I bet he is. But I know he would have also been happy.”
“And we’ll be happy too. We are happy.”
“Yes, now that I’ve got you, I’m going to cherish every moment, just as dad said to.”
I hugged him close.“Don’t ever leave me George.”
“I won’t, not ever.”

The Kook Princess and the Pogue King || JJ Maybank
A/N: Okay so I watched Outer Banks on Netflix and I’m totally obsessed with it now. JJ is my favourite character to ever exist, so I came up with this idea. This is just how JJ meets the reader. I really thought that JJ deserved having the best day of his life too. (I also picked a last name for the female character in this story since it’s kinda important.) There are gonna be more parts to this!
Word Count: 2.5K
Summary: You and JJ meet during Midsummer’s where you save him from getting beaten up by Rafe. Worlds collide when the Kook princess and the Pogue king hopelessly fall for each other. But is there enough space for your feelings when the island is so full of rivalries?
Tumblr media
The soft pastel pink fabric of your dress swayed around your legs as you made your way through the crowd of people. With the flower crown on your head you really felt like you were part of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. Getting to dress up and wear something pretty was by far the best part of having to be at the Midsummer’s party.
The band was playing a slow song and you noticed with a smile that your parents were dancing to it. Fairy lights twinkled and the ocean breeze made everything smell like summer. It sounded perfect if it weren’t for those obnoxious Kooks.

Kisses on the back concept with JJ maybanks from your prompt list??
Situation Prompt #5: Kisses on the Back
Kisses on the back are for the morning after (You know *winky face*), you’re hugging your blanket to your chest, still drifted off into a peaceful sleep. JJ wakes up first and turns around to engulf you in his arms, noticing you had slipped on his tank after last night's deeds. He never wakes up first, so obviously he can only admire you for so long before he gets bored.
JJ’s lips press against the bare skin showing on your back from where his tank fails to hide it. He keeps his lips there for a second, loving how soft your skin is before pulling away and placing another soft kiss against your back.
“Sweetheart?” His voice is enough to pull you out of your sleep, slightly confused about how he’s up before you.
“Hm?”
“Wake up..” He presses another kiss to your back, then your shoulder, a small whine escapes your lips
“Why?”
“Wanna see your pretty face”
You can’t help but smile and comply to his request, turning on your side to face him in the shared bed. His dorky smile spreads across his face as he is finally able to connect his lips with yours.
Requests are open! Keep sending them in :)))

I’ll be here when you come back (Colby Brock)
A/N: Hello my dudes!!! How long it’s been? Like 4? Maybe even 5 since I posted the second part of Let Her Go.
I’ve had most of the last part written since last November, but I got busy and lost inspiration to write – which seemed to be back for now.
I hope you like this last part, I enjoyed writing the last bit because if I have to be honest I’m not sure if I like the rest of it – like I said I wrote almost 5 months ago and usually when I read things I wrote a long time ago I normally don’t like them.
But you are the important ones! If you like it then I’m happy.
I hope you are all safe and doing well in the crazy times we are living and I also hope this helps you to think about something else.
Love you!
Warnings: English is not my first language so I’m sorry in advance if I made some mistakes.
Part1: Let her go
Part2: All you had to do was stay
It had been a month since (Y/N) had come back to LA, which lead her to think one thing only, the call with the information about her new destination was closer than she liked.
She hadn’t realized how much she missed her life until she came back and could enjoy all her friends again, specially how much she had missed Colby. At that point it was hard for both of them to hide how much they wanted to spend time together, Colby would find the most random excuses to make plans with (Y/N) and she wouldn’t hesitate on saying yes to everything Colby came up with. Like that night for example, (Y/N) had suggested going to Rae’s to have dinner with the whole group, after dinner Sam suggested a chill game night at his and Kat’s place, but Colby excused himself saying he had to film a video for his channel and that he needed help. Of course (Y/N) was the first one to offer herself volunteer.
None of their friends at that diner booth were blind, they could see Colby and (Y/N)’s undeniable desire for some alone time with each other, so most of the time they would play along instead of teasing them in public and potentially make things awkward – something they both were thankful for since from the first second the fans saw (Y/N) was back ninety percent of comments were about if they were back together or not.
What they didn’t know, not even (Y/N), was that there was no video that needed to be finished. Colby’s intentions were to take (Y/N) to a place he had recently found, a quiet spot on the hills of LA where they watched the city from afar.
The later it got the better they could see the stars above them, which reminded (Y/N) of a recurrent thought she had at the beginning of their time apart. She liked to look at the sky and think that no matter what, no matter the time of the day, the weather or how far away they were from each other, both of them were looking at the same sky. For some reason thinking about that brought her peace and made her feel a little connected to Colby.
“What are you thinking about?” they’ve been quiet for a few minutes and Colby was only wondering why (Y/N) was so smiley.
“Nothing” her smile only grew wider, making Colby grin bigger.
“C’mon, tell me” he turned around so he laying on his stomach over the blanket they were sharing.
“I was thinking about that time you fell down the hill and made it to the bottom on your butt” she lied, while she laughed remembering that moment.
“My pants were so destroyed at the end” he chuckled shaking his head.
(Y/N) was about to make a comment on how his fat ass helped him to not get too hurt but their attentions were caught by the sound of movement on the bushes behind them.
“Did you hear that?” (Y/N) whispered, sitting up as fast as she could to look in the direction of the sound.
A low growl followed the noises and that was enough for Colby to get up and help (Y/N) get up too “get it the car, fast” he whispered grabbing the blanket and giving it to her while he opened the door for her.
The first thought that came into mind for Colby was that they could be attacked by an animal, so he had to put (Y/N) in a safe place, but before he could close the door they heard some high pitched whimpers coming from the same place.
That got (Y/N) out of the car and running to the bushes, followed by Colby telling her to stop.
“Oh my god”
“What? (Y/N) what is it? Be careful” when Colby approached her he could finally calm down, it was a dog and he was trapped on the bush.
“Hey buddy, I’m going to help you, okay?” (Y/N) was crazy about animals, if it was for her she would have so many, but sadly she was never in the same place for too long and having a pet wasn’t a good idea under those conditions.
When the dog kept whining and liked her hand, (Y/N) took it as a sign to proceed and help the young looking dog to get out of the mess he had got himself into.
“He has no collar and he’s so dirty it looks like he’s been around here for a while” she announced looking up at Colby as she kept caressing the dog to keep him calm.
Colby, who also happened to be an animal lover, saw his opportunity in the palm of his hand “why don’t we go back to my place and we get him clean and fed?” if there was a way to (Y/N)’s heart, it was definitely that one.
“I think that’s a great idea” she looked down at the scared dog again “we’re taking care of you my friend, don’t worry I won’t let Colby pick the food, he has no taste” she joked, picking up the dog and winking at a fake hurt looking Colby.
The car ride was smoother than expected, luckily it was the middle of the night, which meant no traffic at all. It was good thing too because Colby was paying more attention to the interactions (Y/N) was having with the dog than where he was going.
Something none of them had realized was how, as much as they have been hanging out, (Y/N) hadn’t put a foot on Colby’s apartment. Being in the outside world together gave them many private moments, but being alone in Colby’s home was different, that feeling of anything could happened was settled as soon as they both walked through the room.
“The bathroom is over there” Colby pointed to the only closed door in the open space.
(Y/N) made her way over while she looked around his apartment, taking in how empty it looked, there was no decorations at all and she was thankful for that, if she had seen any of their old decorations she would have died inside.
“I made you a sandwich” Colby announced, walking into the bathroom twenty minutes after (Y/N), who had already washed the dog and was drying him off with a towel.
“Did you make it or did you go to the store to buy it? Because it took you a while” she joked, wrapping her new little friend with the towel and snuggling him.
Truth was that Colby just needed some time by himself, gather his thoughts before walking into that bathroom. It was getting very difficult to be around (Y/N) while they were playing by the ‘only friends’ rules.
“Making sandwiches is an art, it takes time” he sat on the tiled floor, right in front of (Y/N), who was also sitting on the floor. They stayed in silent for a few minutes until Colby broke it “I always thought we would get a dog.”
Was he too tired to stop himself from saying things like those? He definitely was.
“But then I left” (Y/N) whispered, avoiding eye contact.
Was she too tired to follow that conversation? Oh you better believe she was.
“But then we broke up” he corrected her.
“Because I left” they hadn’t talked about their relationship, not even just once ever since they had started this new found friendship. So Colby couldn’t help but give (Y/N) a confused look, not understanding where she was coming from with that.
“Okay, if that is what you believe then you could say I didn’t do anything to try and stop you from leaving” he said once he understood she was, in some level, blaming herself for it “you followed your passion and there’s nothing wrong with that”
Colby’s soft tone and sweet words made (Y/N) finally look at him in the eyes, feeling less guilty. She wasn’t sorry for leaving and following her dreams, but was she coastally wondering what could’ve been if she had stayed with Colby? Of course.
“It doesn’t mean I didn’t wanna stay too” at the end of the day there was two things she was passionate about, trying to transform the world in a better place and her future with Colby Brock.
“I know, (Y/N)” he couldn’t lie, it felt good to hear that. He knew she was heartbroken for leaving and that gave away a hint of how bad she wanted to stay, but hearing it out loud felt so fucking good “but do you really think I would’ve let you give up on an opportunity like that?” she shook her head, earning a smile from Colby, who moved closer, until the only thing keeping them apart were their legs “That’s correct, I wouldn’t’ve had let you” he placed a hand on her knee “don’t ever think I blamed this on you leaving, not for a second. I’m so fucking proud of you for chasing after your dreams”
“Thank you, Colbster” she smiled, the use of the nickname she had given him shortly after meeting Colby made her slightly flush. The dog found that the perfect moment to lick her sad face away “okay, okay I’ll let you go” she chuckled letting the dog free to run around the bathroom before storming out of it to explore the rest of the apartment.
“I put some of the food we bought on a bowl in the kitchen, someone’s going to be surprised” although he was apparently focusing in something new (Y/N) couldn’t stop repeating his words in her head and how badly she wanted to kiss him right now, but she couldn’t.
Just like that she made her decision, the dog would be the sing she needed to see what the universe had to tell her.
The following morning, bright and early, Colby and (Y/N) went to the closest vet to find out if the dog had a microchip, which would lead to an owner and then to discover if the dog had run away or if it had been abandoned – a heartbreaking theory on (Y/N)’s eyes.
While the vet did her job It was visible how nervous (Y/N) was, Colby couldn’t figure out why and he was planning on asking, but the vet talked sooner, announcing the dog had a microchip and that she was going to call the number that appeared on the computer.
“You’re going to make a hole on the ground if you keep bouncing your leg like that” Colby joke, earning a smile from (Y/N).
She didn’t answer though; she was too deep in her thoughts. If that dog didn’t have an owner that wanted him that was it, she was staying in LA, she would find a place to live, a job, she would take care of her new little friend and she would work as hard as it needed to be worked to gain Colby back.
“Good news, the owner is on her way, she says she’s been looking for Oreo like crazy” Oreo, so that was the dog’s name, who the fuck names their dog after an Oreo? Okay probably (Y/N) would do it, it was a cute name and she was just too upset to recognize it.
“Great, that’s awesome to hear, right?” Colby had to take the lead and talk when there was no reaction from (Y/N), who only nodded when Colby tried to get her to respond in any way possible.
The thing is, Colby still knows (Y/N) like the palm of his hand, he can feel how upset she is when she gets slightly flushed as a reaction of how hard she is trying to hold back the tears, but what he can’t understand is the reason why she is so upset all of the sudden, was he missing something?
So the poor and confused boy does the only thing he can think of at the moment. He places his hand on her back, rubbing small circles at first and when (Y/N) doesn’t try to stop him from doing so he pulls her closer “What’s wrong?” the vet is too occupied with Oreo to hear what Colby has whispered to (Y/N), which (Y/N) is thankful for because the last thing she wants is for the vet to think she’s crazy.
“’m just tired” the lack of eye contact wasn’t helping her in the fail attempt of lying “and hungry”
“We can go to Rae’s for breakfast” although Colby knew that wasn’t the problem, he followed along “and then take a nap” and maybe too carried away, but the last thing he wanted to do was to finish their time together, even if he was just as tired as she was because they stayed up all night talking and playing with the dog they had just found in the middle of nowhere.
For some reason he felt like if he let go of her in that moment she would be gone again, just like if she had never been here in the first place. That’s why when (Y/N) nodded and leaned her head on his shoulder he felt the biggest relieved he’s felt in so long.
They were given the option of staying until Oreo’s owner came to pick him up and as much as (Y/N) would have loved to witness the encounter in other given circumstances now it wasn’t the best time for it, so they left to get Colby’s promised breakfast at Rae’s.
From the first second they put a foot outside the vet clinic Colby was dying to ask what was really the reason of (Y/N) mood swing, sadly he didn’t feel in the right position to push her that much in order to get an answer.
“Can you take me straight to Tara’s? I’m really tired, I just want to sleep” Colby felt like he had lost a battle, one that (Y/N) had no idea about, but somehow she had defeated Colby.
“Yeah, sure, I can take you there” (Y/N) hated to be the reason why things had got so awkward between them so fast. With Colby too afraid of making the wrong move and pushing her away forever and with (Y/N) too upset to even pretend she was fine.
_
Colby’s suspicions were correct, for the next three days he couldn’t get a hold of (Y/N), she wouldn’t answer his calls and the texts she did answer were very vague. The whole situation was equally confusing and frustrating for Colby. On one hand he was fine with giving (Y/N) her space, leaving him some time for himself too; on the other hand, he couldn’t point where did he go wrong, what did he do to make her so upset and disappear for three days, that was all he had in his mind most of the time, but it also didn’t stop him from keeping up with his busy schedule and daily life.
It wasn’t much different for (Y/N), she felt like the longer she tried to stay away from Colby the harder it would be to fall back into good terms, after all she would have to explain why she was acting so weird.
The lack of sleep and the realization of still being very much in love with Colby were the two main factors that got (Y/N) so upset. She wasn’t one to believe in signs from the universe, but in that moment at the vet she would have follow her plan of staying in LA if the universe had made that dog one without an owner, that would have been her sign. On the contrary, she took that sign as one of take your things and run before you make a mistake.
Hence why she is upset, she doesn’t believe in signs, but she made herself believe in that one, which was followed by the call she’s been afraid to receive the very next day.
“You look awfully quiet, my dear” of course the second (Y/N) got the news she went to the only place she could feel better again, Rae’s, where Carly made her the best strawberry milkshake, yet (Y/N) didn’t feel any better and Carly could see it.
“isn’t Colby joining you today?” Rog didn’t mean any harm, he was very happy when Carly told him about having the young couple reunited again after such a long time, but the reminder of Colby hurt.
“No… it’s just me today” (Y/N) couldn’t even look up to answer his question, she was too occupied moving the straw around the half full glass, as if the answer would pop out of it any second.
As Carly and Rog kept taking care of preparing meals and drinks (Y/N) watched them, this time paying more attention than ever before. How Rog would look at Carly from time to time and a smile would appear on his face, how Carly had an endless list of cute nicknames for Rog or simply the way they would crack jokes with the other every other minute.
“How did you and Carly meet?” (Y/N) asked Rog when he got closer whipping the other side of the counter.
“Way back in the day, we were neighbors” just talking about it put a smile on Rog’s face “I didn’t stop until she agreed to go on a date with me”
“Where did you take her?” (Y/N) was already hooked on the story, she loved old people and their life stories.
“To the movies, of course” Carly was a big fan of everything movie related and the decoration on the diner showed her passion, they had the walls covered with movie posters “I was scared to death of her father, but I managed to build the courage and ask for permission. Best decision I ever made”
“How did you know she was the one for you?” you could say she was trying to get advice without asking for it.
Rog stopped cleaning the glasses that had piled on the counter and looked at the lost girl sitting at the stool on the other side of the counter, he could read the look in her eyes.
“It took me some time, some mistakes were made, but without those mistakes we wouldn’t be here today” now (Y/N) was intrigued, but she felt that asking about those mistakes was way too invasive “I asked myself many times if Carly was the woman I would end up marrying, if there was someone else out there for me, because when we started dating it didn’t feel like I could have a connection with anyone else the way I had it with her” (Y/N) stayed quiet, wanting him to continue “but when she and her family moved here , the place she had always dreamt of, I had to let her go, still one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do to this day. I told myself it all happened because it was meant to be like that, I had to stay in New York and work in my father’s business and she was meant to move here” (Y/N) couldn’t help but compare their story with hers and Colby’s “It didn’t take me long to realize what really mattered to me and let me tell you it wasn’t working for my father” he laughed, probably at the memory of those golden years they lived together.
“Did Carly wait for you?” although (Y/N) loved seeing him so happy as he told his story, she couldn’t hold back the questions.
“Oh no, I would have never asked her that, we truly believed we wouldn’t see each other again, but the second I found her… things fell back into place” well, now that was true love “almost fifty years later here we are”
“It’s a beautiful story, Rog” (Y/N) smiled, already deep in thought, putting into perspective everything she knew or at least everything she thought she knew.
“You seem conflicted” Rog had caught on early when she asked the first question why did she wanted to now. After all he had witness the mess Colby had been for the first few weeks after (Y/N) left.
“I am conflicted” with a heavy sigh (Y/N) let her head fall on her crossed arms over the counter.
The action made Rog laugh, that kind of sympathetic laugh you can’t be mad at. He wasn’t stupid, in fact his age and his life experience made him a very wise human being.
“If you want my humble opinion” he started, stopping just to build some expectation, which made (Y/N) look up again “I think you already have the answer you need, you just haven’t accepted yet, so whatever it is you are conflicted about accept it already and put yourself to work”
It wasn’t admitting that Rog was right, (Y/N) already knew what she really wanted to do, but the thought of actually putting herself to work to get to her goal scared her too much.
Fuck that, it was about time she got up and made up for the time she was losing. Rog could see in her eyes how fast her demeanor was changing, leaving the old man with a proud smile on his lips.
“I’m going to do it” (Y/N) stood up from the bar stool, almost knocking it down with how fast she did it “thank you Rog” before running out of the diner, with an unfinished milkshake, she left a five-dollar bill for Rog not waiting for her change, the man deserved the big tip.
_
“Jake, what does it take so long to pack? Seriously dude”
Colby had been waiting for over an hour for Jake to give him a heads up whenever he had finished packing for their trip and he couldn’t stop texting Jake to hurry up. He wanted to leave as soon as possible, although it was going to be a ‘bussiness trip’ because they were visiting haunted places for the Sam and Colby channel, Colby really wanted to be a few days away from LA.
“Brother relax, don’t pay it with me if (Y/N) doesn’t answer your calls”
It wasn’t a secret for anyone how (Y/N) affected Colby even if he didn’t want it to be that way, none of them couldn’t help it. Jake didn’t mean harm with his comments, they were all in a joking tone, he felt like it was better to joke about it than to make it this taboo topic that made things weird.
“If you’re not ready in ten minutes I’m ditching your ass”
After sending that last text Colby let himself fall on the couch with a deep sigh, why couldn’t he stop thinking about her just for five minutes? A little break for his tired brain and aching heart.
Meanwhile, not so far from Colby’s complex apartment the running hadn’t stopped for (Y/N) when she left the diner, she kept running down the street, through the sea of people that couldn’t care less for the crazy looking girl trying not to trip and fall.
Two blocks into running she was feeling exhausted and the thought running through her mind was how the next thing she was doing was getting in shape.
---
The banging on his apartment door straddled Colby, he wished it was different, but it caught him off guard. Normally none of his friends even knock, they either walk in without knocking or they let him know they’re going up the stairs through a text, so it couldn’t be Jake, the only one Colby was waiting.
“(Y/N)?” it felt like he was in such an emotional rollercoaster in that moment that he couldn’t trust his eyes, but she was there, standing in front of him, breathless from all the running.
“I-“ so breathless she felt like it would take her a while to form a sentence “’m sorry” the frown in Colby’s face deepened.
“Sorry? For what?” (Y/N) quickly put a hand up to let him know she needed to talk and not be interrupted.
It was nice to know she cared enough to acknowledge the fact that she had been avoiding him and she needed to apologize for that, but it wasn’t necessary to run all the way there, she could’ve just called.
(Y/N) took a deep breath, enough to form a full sentence without being cut by her lungs’ terrible performance “I’m sorry for pushing you away when that’s not what I really want”
The possibilities were endless for Colby’s reaction, that was the most terrifying part for (Y/N), who felt her heart start beating again when a small grin appeared on Colby’s face.
He had to admit something, in all the years he had known the breathless girl in front of him, there wasn’t many times he could recall seeing her admit so clearly she was doing something wrong – which was the most beautiful form of art in his eyes.
“Okay… I forgive you” she could recognize the smug smile on his face, he was enjoying this moment in many ways and although in the past she would had told him to stop, now she just wanted to look at him smile in any way possible “Can I ask why you started acting so weird though? I think apologies usually come with explanations.”
It wasn’t a surprise for her, who in their right mind wouldn’t ask? So she invited herself into the living room, where Colby followed after closing the door.
“I… really wanted to keep the dog we found” she admitted turning around to meet his intrigued eyes, the same ones that asked her to keep going “I thought if he didn’t have an owner who wanted him it would be a signal that I should stay in LA, no more voluntary work around the world” Colby was feeling conflicted, he loved the idea of her staying in LA, having her back completely.
The constant movement in her hands was making both of them nervous, they didn’t even take a seat – Colby didn’t mainly because she seemed too anxious to keep herself in place.
“But the dog had an owner” Colby took a step closer, taking her hands in his so she would stop playing with them. It seemed like the physical contact made her focus better, nodding while she looked down at their hands before looking up at him again.
“And that meant I didn’t have a reason to stay here” the tone of her voice went down, now that he was so close to her it felt like the right choice “or so I wanted to make myself believe”
“Do you want to stay?” Colby was doing the best he could to keep himself together, it wasn’t too difficult most of the time, but (Y/N) had always been an exception to any existing rule.
She timidly nodded “I do wanna stay” if someone decided to check her heart rate in that moment she would have broken the machine, because her heart was beating so fast she could pass out at any second “but I realized that way before we found out about the dog’s owner” the confusion on Colby’s face made it clear to her that he had no idea what she meant “I knew I wanted to stay when I realized I’m still in love with you”
Exactly the words he had been dreaming to hear again, a moment he had been waiting and had made himself believe it wouldn’t happen ever again – oh how wrong he was.
If this was a dream he wasn’t risking waking up, so instead trying to learn how to breathe again he let go of her hands and moved them up to cup her face delicately before crashing his lips with hers.
That wasn’t exactly the reaction (Y/N) was expecting, but definitely the best outcome. Of course she kissed him back, this time with no doubts or regrets. It felt so new yet still like coming back home after a horrible day, so warm and welcoming.
Her hands quickly made their way to his waist, tugging on his shirt to keep him close, a small detail that made a spark run through Colby’s body, who was starting to feel breathless from the kiss and the adrenaline of his intense emotions taking over him.
Even when they pulled apart the electricity trying to keep them together was vibrant.
“That was… unexpected” she smiled, intuitively licking her lips that still tasted like him.
“I know; it was unexpected for me too” her sudden love confession was beyond anything he could’ve imagined.
They stayed in silent, looking at each other with silly smiles on their faces – those smiles you get in the so called honeymoon phase of your relationship. In this case Colby and (Y/N) had a long history behind them, but it had always been like the honeymoon phase for them no matter how long they had been together.
Her hands had made their way up to his jaw, letting her fingers dance along his soft skin “Can we get a dog?” she asked out of nowhere.
The look of adoration on Colby’s eyes only intensified after that question, how had he functioned all that time without her? Without feeling the way he was feeling in that very second?
“I thought you’d never ask” this time it was (Y/N) the one who pulled him down for another breathtaking kiss.
There was still a long road in front of them before getting a dog, of course, but the main point was that they were in the same page, the both wanted the same thing and it was as simple as having each other by their side.
Colby’s phone went off, interrupting the heated kiss. When he looked at his phone he saw the incoming called from Jake, just like that he was brought back to reality, he had to leave to the airport, he wasn’t going to be able to enjoy (Y/N) for at least a few more days.
“Fuck” he cursed under his breath, hanging up on Jake “I have a trip with the boys and I should be going to the airport by now”
“It’s okay” giving him a reassuring smile she pecked his lips one more time “have fun, find some ghosts and tell me all about it” her words made him feel automatically better about leaving “I’ll be here when you come back”
His arms wrapped around her tightly, bringing her into a warm hug, one that he needed more than any of them knew. He took in her sweet scent, while she kissed his shoulder and locked her arms behind his back to hug him tighter.
__
Just as she had promised when Colby came back she was there, not only in LA, but in his apartment. She had found a way to go inside, decorating the place with a bunch of lit candles and flowers she had got for him, because even if he couldn’t keep them alive Colby had always enjoyed getting flowers. She had also made a welcome back sign and since he was coming back late at night she had also made dinner for the two of them.
Colby didn’t know he needed that in his life as much as he did when he saw the whole thing, now remembering all the times he had come back to an empty apartment felt so sad.
“Oh my god” the mixture between his nervous laugh and big smile let her see how much he liked the surprise.
“Welcome home!” (Y/N) exclaimed, jumping from behind the couch – Colby’s smile only went bigger “I promise I wasn’t trying to make a séance with all these candles” she joked, making him laugh.
The shock and surprise was still very clear in his actions, his face, how he couldn’t stop looking around the place “how did you- when- ugh I have so many questions” his focus finally falling back on her.
“I told you I would be here when you came back and Sam has keys to get in here so I just had to nicely ask for them, get them from Kat and get everything inside” she explained “you like it?”
“Oh believe me, I’ve never been so happy to be back home” letting his backpack fall on the floor he shortened the distance between them and kissed her, not holding back for even a second, he was giving it all in that passionate kiss that took her breath away.
“don’t you want to have dinner?” she chuckled between kisses, for Colby there wasn’t time to waste, it was visible in how his hands traveled down her body, stopping one of his hands on her butt and giving it a squeeze while with the other he moved the hair away from her face to kiss her lips again.
“Dinner can wait, I have other priorities at the moment” he whispered, bringing his other hand to her butt too and picking her up, gaining a grin from her.
“mhmmm, I’ve always liked your way of thinking” she added leaning in to kiss down his jaw.
Just like that everything fell back in place, the same way their bodies feel in Colby’s bed. They had found their way back to each other, like (Y/N)’s lips found their way down Colby’s neck. Bodies fitting perfectly together after a long time trying to fill that space with the best new thing, not knowing there was nothing or no one who could compare to the way they worked together.

another side note
i had my first therapy session in a month. it was really hard to talk about certain things that have been going on in my life, and i was really tired afterwards, but i felt like the weight on my shoulders lifted a little.
irl, i’m not one to talk about my problems, or my mental health. i’m usually the person who takes on other people’s problems so i don’t have to focus on my own.
this year, i’m going to start taking care of myself. i’m going to learn that i’m worthy of love and being cared about. that’s on periodt.

All you had to do was stay (Colby Brock)
A/N: Hello my dudes!!! It took me forever to post this part and I hope you like it as much as the first one (part 1: Let Her Go), also just letting you know there’s a third one I already started and it’s pretty advanced so I hope it doesn’t take me long to post.
I also have a bunch of little imagines in mind related with these two alswell as things I don’t get to fit into these parts, so don’t be shy and send me some asks about whatever you want if you want us to discuss ideas :)
Warnings: English is not my first language so I’m sorry in advance if I made some mistakes and this part has mostly angst, but also little fluffy flashbacks.
None of them knew how they got to that point, they hadn’t had that much alcohol to blame their actions on it, not like that was something running through their heads as they hungrily kissed each other.
The consequences of them sneaking out from the party and getting into the bathroom to make out heavily weren’t a priority in the state they were in. Colby with his back against the now closed door with (Y/N)’s hands tangled through his hair the same way their lips were while his hands moved down to her legs just to make their way up to her ass where he squeezed hard enough to have her moaning against his lips.
Her moans were like music for Colby’s ears, a sound that ignites a fire inside him no one else can, so when he squeezes her butt a second time and she moans again he can’t wait any longer. With a swift move he picks her up and places her on the counter, making a bunch or hair products fall onto the floor, but they don’t stop, they keep kissing, every kiss leaving them wanting more and more.
But she needed to pull back, she needed a second to breathe. Colby’s lips followed hers as she moved back, finally making eye contact since before they started almost eating each other’s faces. The sight before Colby’s eyes was one he thought he would never see again, her blushed cheeks, eyes filled with lust all for him, her parted - and slightly swollen lips for all the kissing - in need of some air. He was fine with letting her some time to catch her breath, but he needed to feel her and that’s when his lips went down to meet her neck, taking his time to kiss every inch of it. The feeling of Colby’s lips made (Y/N) close her eyes in pleasure, her head instinctively leaning to the other side so she could feel every kiss his soft lips had to offer.
When he bit on her exposed skin the hand she had on his hair automatically closed into a fist, tugging his hair, earning a deep moan from Colby himself, who wrapped the arm he had around her tighter so her body would be completely against his. Her legs wrapped around his waist, letting (Y/N) feel the growing boner inside Colby’s pants.
“Fuck… Colby” was the first thing any of them had said, how many times (Y/N) had thought about being with Colby like that during all the years they had been separated, when she found herself late at night thinking about what would have happened if she had stayed “kiss me” she was still very much out of breath when her other hand moved up to his cheek so he couldn’t waste another second.
(Y/N) took a minute to appreciate the beauty in front of her, his messy hair missing the blue tips - which were her personal favorite - the piercing on his nose that he had changed for a nose ring and it was driving her insane because she never thought he could look even better than he already did and that happy grin plastered on his lips because she had said his name and he didn’t expect it to affect him so much.
Before she could open her mouth his lips locked with hers once again, the feeling of kissing him again being like a drug that made effect right the second she took it and never getting enough of it, never getting enough of Colby.
The temperature in the room was unbearable at that point, there were too many pieces of clothing between them - or at least that was (Y/N) thought when her hands grabbed Colby’s jean jacket neck and pulled from it in an attempt of taking it off from his body. He moved his arms to help her, the jacket falling on the floor with a silent thud as his hands went back to her body, fingers running up her thigh covered legs, making their way all the way up to get under her dress. He gave a gentle squeeze to her hips before dropping his hands down to her ass.
Every part of her body he touched was leaving her more and more out of breath, she felt like that was the closest to heaven she’d ever been – between Colby’s arms while she tries the impossible task of feeling him closer than he already was.
They were so out of everything else that they forgot there was still a party going on outside that bathroom, if they had payed attention they would have heard how someone was banging on the door over the loud music, but the only existing thing in the whole word at that exact moment for (Y/N) was Colby, and for Colby it was (Y/N).
When the door opened letting in a rush of cold air along with the loud music, impossible to miss anymore, both of them turned to see what was going on.
“Col-“ Sam was looking for Colby so desperately that he didn’t think he could be occupied with a girl, but what he didn’t expect was to find him with (Y/N) and it was clear on his face, how his eyes opened wide and he didn’t know how to use English anymore. As fast as he had opened the door he closed it, he had found Colby, much better than how he expected to find him, so he could go back to mind his business and leave the questions for a different moment.
Back Inside the bathroom things felt different, for (Y/N) at least, the high of the moment had vanished as consciousness had come right back to her when she saw Sam’s face.
It was wrong, they shouldn’t be making out in the bathroom and she should have realized sooner.
“I gotta go” Colby couldn’t believe his ears or his eyes when (Y/N) got off the counter, fixing her hair and dress like it was nothing.
“(Y/N) wait” hearing her name coming out of him again, almost in a pleading tone, felt like a dagger to her heart “please”
“Colby this shouldn’t be happening; I have to go” before he could ask her to stay once again she was exiting the bathroom.
There he was again, four years later, watching her leave again right after he had got the smallest bit of her back. It made him mad, furious even, after all his efforts to move on and get over his broken heart he had come back to the start, missing her presence, her skin against his, her lips locked with his, her hands through his hair.
_
(Y/N) leaving four years ago not only affected Colby, it also affected the rest of the friend group they had been building during their time in LA, specially two of her best friends, Kat and Tara.
All of them tried their best to keep in touch despite the distance and the very different time zones, even with Colby. Every time (Y/N) saw some headline about a new goal he had achieved there she was sending him a thoughtful text to congratulate him – not at first though, there was a gap of at least six months where they didn’t want to know anything about the other, it hurt too much.
What didn’t happen was a meeting between the two, meanwhile (Y/N) did meet up with some of their friends when she happened to be in a state they were in.
This lead to the perfect surprise for Kat on her birthday. (Y/N) was coming back to the country after not being there for around a year, she was specifically going to LA, a place she had avoid for the past four years. The comeback on Kat’s birthday was the perfect gift or so that thought Tara and (Y/N) while they planned how to do it.
It was also perfect timing since Kat and Sam had moved into a new house not so long ago and they were thinking about doing a housewarming party. The only thing they didn’t plan was (Y/N) and Colby’s encounter, you could say Kat wasn’t the only one surprised at her birthday.
Although they shared timid ‘hellos’ it was undeniable the existing tension between the two ex-lovers, not a bad one but a huge sexual tension.
The thing is, (Y/N) didn’t use social media – yeah she had an Instagram account, but she couldn’t even remember the last time she had used it. So the reunion was a big surprise for both of them, who had spent so long with the old memories of each other living in their minds.
A good two hours is how long they spend pretending they weren’t checking each other out every time they were in the same room. (Y/N) would bite her lip and look the other way every time Colby smiled at something Jake was saying, or every time he tried to fix his hair – oh how she wished she could be the one running her fingers through those colored locks of hair.
For Colby wasn’t much different, it was hard to look anywhere else when (Y/N) was in his presence, how much he had thought about her, not knowing even how she looked anymore – had she grow her hair or did she cut it? Maybe she dyed it? What about her lips? Did she still used that cherry chopstick that made her lips so inviting to kiss? Now he had all the answers to those questions in front of him and her lips were still very inviting to kiss.
Fast-forward to two hours later, when everyone had already had a couple drinks, music was blasting through the speakers and Colby and (Y/N) had accidentally met with no one else around paying attention to their interactions – that was the key to it, no one was paying attention, which made it feel like it was only the two of them there - after four years of not seeing each other.
Words weren’t needed, ten seconds into intense eye contact was all it took for Colby to lean in and capture her lips into what (Y/N) would describe as an out of this world experience, what was about Colby that made her lose any possible mature reasoning? Why hasn’t she felt everything Colby was making her feel every time she had kissed someone during those four years?
For Colby, going into that kiss, wasn’t a solid conviction. He was expecting to be rejected, so the second he felt (Y/N) kissing him back every doubt he could’ve had just disappeared, he couldn’t think about anything else but the fact that she was back, she was right there, kissing him again – and it felt like the void he had been feeling since she left was being finally filled in.
Three was the number of times he had tried to date anyone again during that period of time and three was the number of times that it had failed because Colby would find himself comparing the girl in front of him with (Y/N) and the things she would do differently. It was an exhausting experience and completely unfair for the girls, who didn’t even know they were competing against (Y/N)’s ghost, so every time Colby ended up braking up with them.
That night, not only was she kissing him back but she also dragged him into the closest room so it could actually be just the two of them, exploring their bodies like they’ve been imagining all that time. That is how they ended up in that bathroom, in Kat and Sam’s new house, just minutes before they were interrupted by Sam, making (Y/N) remove herself from the situation as fast as she had got herself into it.
After their steamy encounter (Y/N) had a plan, not very elaborated – it only consisted in pretending nothing happened. At the end of the day she was only staying in LA until she was told a new destiny she was moving to and no one was forcing her to see Colby again, so it should be easy right? Wrong.
(Y/N)’s comeback needed to be celebrated, or so that thought the friend group that could be considered family at that point. Colby thought about making an excuse to avoid any plan that had to do with (Y/N), he was back at square one, feeling mad about her leaving just like she did when they were 22, and avoiding the situation didn’t look like the most mature option for the now 26 years old.
“Are you going to try and talk to her about it?” Sam couldn’t shut down his curiosity after what he had witnessed only two nights ago.
“I don’t know” it was only the two of them in Colby’s apartment, reason why it was safe to talk about it, even though all of Sam’s questions were irritating Colby a little bit.
“What if she comes up to you, would you talk to her?”
“Sam, I don’t know!” the answer came out sharper than intended, Colby’s nerves were taking the best of him, but he had always been one to quickly realize if he made a mistake “I’m sorry man, this is very stressing”
The blond boy wasn’t blind; he saw Colby’s mood change the second he saw (Y/N) and as someone who had lived firsthand how Colby was affected the first time she left he didn’t appreciate seeing him at that point again.
“I thought you were over her, brother” both of them knew better than that. Colby’s coping mechanism of going on parties every other day of the week and trying to put himself back in the market way too soon didn’t help the recovery at all, because he wasn’t dealing with it, he was just trying to find a distraction, someone who could make him forget about (Y/N) – but that person never appeared.
“I thought so too, until I saw her” his eyes were fixated on the can of beer he was holding, his fingers playing with the tab as his memory went back to two nights ago and how good it felt seeing her beautiful face again, when he had told himself that would never happen again.
“So… you want to go back with her?” that should be an expected question, but also a very impossible one to answer for Colby.
“Dude, how do you expect me to answer that? I feel like I don’t even know her anymore, it’s been four fucking years” but did he want her back? His inner 22 years old was dying to have her back, but he had to stop thinking with that mentality and realize they were different people now.
Not so far away from Colby’s apartment you could find (Y/N) just feeling the exact same way as she tried to find the perfect outfit for the plans they had that night, for some reason she felt the pressure of looking extra good and she didn’t want to admit that reason’s name was Colby.
“Woah, what happened here?” Tara was thrilled to let (Y/N) stay at her apartment the time she was going to be in LA. She refused to let her friend rent an Airbnb when she had a whole empty guest bedroom that was now covered in probably every single piece of clothing (Y/N) owned.
(Y/N) let fall the drees she was holding with a defeated sigh I don’t have anything to wear”
For a second Tara thought she was kidding, that’s why she chuckled, but when (Y/N) didn’t laugh she realized it wasn’t a joke “well, I see I few things you could wear” Tara picked some of her favorites as she made her way to the bed and sat there raising an eyebrow at her friend “but what did you have in mind?”
That was a trick question, because the truth was (Y/N) didn’t have anything in mind, it just felt as if nothing was good enough.
“I was just trying to find something appropriate when you’re going to meet your ex after making out with him the second you see him again after four years” it was killing her inside, she needed to tell someone and get a different perspective of the situation, that person happened to be Tara.
To say Tara’s jaw dropped wouldn’t be accurate enough, she was completely shocked by the news, eyes wide open as she looked at her friend, who was simply nodding to let her know it wasn’t a joke.
“Oh… my god” Tara took another break to collect her thoughts “did you… did you have sex?”
(Y/N) proceeded to explain to Tara everything that had happened and how she didn’t think Sam had told Kat because if that was the case then (Y/N) would have received a call in the middle of the night from a very confused Katrina.
The funny thing is that, like basically everyone in their friend group, Tara happened to be a big supporter of Colby and (Y/N)’s relationship and when they broke up it felt like all of them were going through a break up.
“You need to talk to him, it’s clear both of you are equally confused and avoiding each other it’s not gonna help” (Y/N) knew Tara was right but it the thing was that she didn’t know what to tell Colby “Call him, right now” Tara was already moving to grab (Y/N)’s phone from her nightstand “you can’t show up tonight with all of this tension between you two, it won’t work out well”
“What am I supposed to say?” (Y/N) refused to grab her phone just yet – yeah she felt like they needed to talk, but about what exactly? “oh I’m sorry I left you and now four years later we almost fuck in a bathroom the second we are left alone”
“Are you sorry for leaving him?” Tara decided to ignore the sex part just yet “because if you are yeah, you should say it” (Y/N) hated how right Tara was, but it took her a few more seconds to show her defeat by getting the phone from her hand.
“Okay, but I’m texting not calling” Tara was smiling amused by how flustered she was getting by just looking for Colby’s contact to text him “We’re meeting in thirty minutes” (Y/N) informed a few texts later, receiving a thumbs up from Tara before she dramatically threw herself on top of all her clothes spread around the floor “now what am I supposed to wear?” (Y/N) whined just as Tara threw her a pair of ripped jeans with one of the many graphic shirts she owned she had grabbed on her way to the bed.
“You’re so dramatic” Tara laughed before leaving the room so (Y/N) could get ready “and remember, you’re there to talk, avoid the bathrooms!” she exclaimed from the other room.
“I hate you!” (Y/N) laughed moving the clothes Tara had thrown her away from her face.
_
Running late wasn’t something that existed in (Y/N)’s dictionary, on the contrary – she would show up ten minutes earlier if not more. Colby knew her, he knew how punctual she was so he went straight to where they had accorded to meet as soon as they set a place and time, which was almost twenty minutes earlier because Rae’s was very close to his apartment.
Rae’s was a place they discovered in one of their first dates, it was a seventy’s looking diner they fell in love with one night when they really wanted some fries and milkshakes after a long and tiring arcade date that finished just because the place was closing and they were the last two people in the place.
While they drove through the quiet streets of LA at two in the morning, the bright and colorful lights of Rae’s diner caught (Y/N)’s eyes. Ever since then they would go there at least once a week for a date night, and maybe out of habit they had settle that place to meet up because it was something they did way too much when they were together.
(Y/N) wasn’t expecting Colby to be so early, there were still ten minutes until the thirty ones they had accorded on the texts. So when she walked through the door and saw him sitting at one of the booths, checking his phone, she froze in place.
That was something she hadn’t stop to do just yet – yes, she had checked him out every chance she had during the party, but now that he didn’t know she was there she had time to really look at him. The maroon beanie he was wearing, because he probably thought his hair looked crazy – and in reality it only made him look ten times cuter. The perfect eyebrows peeking through the strands of hair the beanie didn’t cover. The damn black jean jacket he loved so much – which happened to be the one he was wearing two nights ago. The way he was biting his lip in concentration as he scrolled through his phone with those ringed cool looking fingers that he still has rests of white nail polish he hadn’t completely removed. In just a matter of ten seconds she had completely forgotten what she was doing there, the strong need of calling Tara for help made its way through her body, but she didn’t have time because Carly was calling her.
Of course they had become friends with the owners of the place, they had been regulars after all – that was something hard to erase.
“(Y/N)? Tell me my eyes aren’t lying to me right now!” Carly enthusiasm was enough to catch the attention of the few people that were currently at the diner, including Colby’s, who made brief eye contact with (Y/N) when he heard her name being called, but she was now looking at Carly, which let him time to just appreciate his view.
“It’s really me Carly, did you miss me around?” The old woman’s New Yorker charm was undeniable, making it really easy to get along with her – which was what happened to (Y/N). Many nights she had decided to go to that same diner late at night when studying was driving her crazy and all she needed was a milkshake and some of Carly’s bad jokes.
Colby couldn’t help but smile as he watched (Y/N) and Carly’s interaction, it made his mind go back to all those times they had been in that same situation – when he joked about Carly stealing (Y/N) from him.
Now they were in a much different set, Colby couldn’t joke about (Y/N) being stolen from him because she wasn’t his anymore and it hurt. It hurt to look at her standing there, just as beautiful as always without even trying. Stealing everyone’s hearts, including his.
“Oh Rog would die to be here right now, he won’t believe me when I tell him you came by” Roger was Carly’s husband and co-owner of the diner, he was just as affectionate and enthusiastic as Carly.
“Tell him I said hi and that I’ll be back to visit him while I’m still here” (Y/N) chuckled while she was being squeezed by Carly.
Colby didn’t have a problem with staring at the interaction for a little longer, that meant he had a few more minutes of no worries, but (Y/N) didn’t want to make him wait so she cut it short and made her way to the booth, sitting right in front of him.
“Hi” was all (Y/N) managed to say right away.
“Hey” Colby wasn’t feeling too original either.
“You are early” being punctual wasn’t one of Colby’s strong points, but this situation was different.
“I knew you would be early too”
To say they both hated that, the small talk that didn’t lead to anything but an awkward silence. Specially between them two, they had never been a couple used to do small talks, they would have deep conversations about the weirdest and most random things they could think of. So the situation was more uncomfortable than both of them were expecting.
“Look, Colby” there it was again, his name coming out of her soft lips and now it was clear, with no music interferences or the thought of maybe he was hallucinating “I really just want us to get along without it being awkward, you know? Like just two good friends”
Now that was bullshit, she didn’t want them just to be friends, she wanted her Colby Brock back, but she had to be realistic and assume that wasn’t an option because she would have to leave again at some point in the near future.
“Yeah, I can do good friends” Colby shrugged, trying to not give it too much importance “as long as you don’t try to make out in bathrooms” his cheeky smile was giving away he was just joking, trying to make things less harsh and awkward.
“Hey!” (Y/N) laughed slapping his hand over the table “do I need to remind you who was the one that started it all?”
Colby raised his hands in defense, he didn’t regret any decisions and it showed on the big smile on his face. This whole being friends might not work, but for a few minutes it felt nice for both of them, getting that old spark only the other one could ignite.
“Do you want to go to the arcade?” their future together was uncertain, so Colby wanted to take advantage of the now, that moment he had with her in good terms, and squeeze it until the last minute.
“Don’t we have to meet with the rest?” the original plan was to meet, talk – which (Y/N) thought it was going to be so much worse and would end up poorly – and then head to meet up with the rest. Although she’d much rather spend the rest of the day with only Colby.
“We could just turn off our phones and pretend we lost track of time” that was one of the many reasons why (Y/N) had fallen for Colby so fast, he made little things like that one sound like such an adventure that she couldn’t say no to him and his beautiful blue eyes – she had never had a thing for blue eyes before, but Colby’s were different, every time he smiled with those irresistible dimples of his, the eyes looked like they were trying to tell a million different stories.
_
It actually worked for Colby and (Y/N). For the following weeks if you looked at them you would never doubt they were the best of friends, of course for their friends it was weird – they had only known them in a relationship matter, all of them except for Sam who experienced the short friendship that lead to their soon to be love story.
One thing was clear, they felt like they had found their missing piece again and sometimes they even forgot four years had gone by, four years they missed, no talking, barely texting and an overall distance between them that everyone though it would stay like that for the rest of their days.
Something else was clear too, the looks they gave each other were stronger and more meaningful than the normal looks a couple of just friends give each other. As they had met the improved person the other had become they were falling in love all over again, but who would be the first one to crack and say something about it?

"You know that I love you so
I love you enough to let you go
I want you to know
That it doesn't matter
Where we take this road
But someone's gotta go
And I want you to know
You couldn't have loved me better
But I want you to move on
So I'm already gone"
I'm here to let y'all know that "already gone" by sleeping at last is the perfect song for this
Let her go (Colby Brock)
A/N: Hi everybody!! So here I am with a Colby imagine that I hope you like as much as I liked writing, just keep in mind this is not the end of it. The idea that came into my mind (inspired by the song Fix You by Colplay, that you can find on this playlist I used while writing this part) is much longer, but I figured it was better to separate it in two parts because at first I thought about waiting until I had both parts written to post anything but I’m way too excited to wait.
I also have a bunch of little imagines in mind related with these two, so don’t be shy and send me some asks about whatever you want if you want us to discuss ideas :)
Warnings: English is not my first language so I’m sorry in advance if I made some mistakes and this part has mostly angst, but also little fluffy flashbacks.
Colby and (Y/N) had started dating at a young age, 18 years old – which is consider young if your goal is to find the person you’re going to spend the rest of your life with. (Y/N) was a firm believer that, nowadays, if you start dating young odds are you’re not going to last and it wasn’t a belief she liked, she was a romantic and wanted to find her soulmate.
That is the reason why, before Colby - as sad as it sounds - the few people she had dated were doomed to not last. However, Colby was different, she wanted him to be the person she spent the rest of her life with. Same was for Colby, he was infatuated by (Y/N)’s big heart, her love for animals or how caring she was with everyone around her, not to mention the smile that made him lost track of time, how she goes quiet whenever she feels anxious, the way she laughs at the silliest things, the fact that she enjoyed watching horror movies by herself – like a complete psycho.
It was no secret they were made for each other, but they were young and life has its ways of stepping on people’s happiness.

Although they had a lot in common, starting with their adventurous nature – (Y/N) didn’t hesitate for a second when Colby asked her to move with him and Sam to LA, she was ready for a new chapter – they didn’t share a path career wise. Colby wanted to persuade his and Sam’s dream, while on the other side you have (Y/N), the one who loved studying and keep learning new things the damaged education system had to offer. She had a plan for herself in LA, she wasn’t going to settle to be Colby’s girlfriend on the eyes of the world because she was made to be the leader of her own exciting story.
As mentioned before, (Y/N) has a huge heart, she loves helping people in every way possible, so she enrolled college as a future social worker, she wanted to see a change in the world and as small as her part on it was, she wanted to start somewhere. Colby supported her every step of the way, he would surprise her by picking her up at campus, he would stay up until crazy hours of the night to make her company while she studied and if needed he would help her quizzing her about the subject she was preparing, but he would specially be there for all those times she would break down crying out of stress because there were too many papers, exams, also the part time job she took so she could afford living in LA once she ran out of her savings didn’t help her with the time management.
“You’re a liar!” (Y/N) couldn’t believe her eyes as she ran towards an amused Colby leaning against his red Toyota parked right outside her faculty.
Colby had been gone for over a week to film a Sam and Colby video and he had told (Y/N) a different date for his return, one that was a couple more days down the line.
“I can leave if you want” he joked when she was close enough to throw herself in his direction, giving him the tightest hug.
“Please do, it would add more drama to the situation” they both laugh, still hugging each other, only to lock lips as soon as (Y/N) pulled back “I missed this” she hummed against his lips as the kiss got heated, specially from Colby’s side “maybe we should go home and catch up” with all the strength in her she had to pull back and keep her hands on Colby’s chest when his lips tried to follow hers to continue the kiss.
“I made plans for us” Colby groaned, to what (Y/N) could only laugh at how he looked so bumped out by the plans he had made himself, suddenly seeing the lust on (Y/N)’s eyes and how she wanted to ‘catch up’ sounded like the perfect plan.
“Then we’ll have to wait” her eyes couldn’t lie, she was excited about those plans he had in mind for them, she loved how thoughtful Colby was.
“But I want to catch up” he whined in a funny tone that only made (Y/N) laugh harder.
Colby was as supportive as she was for him when it came to his youtube career. Countless times she would come up with ideas for his videos, she would take part on them if it was necessary, she learned how to edit so she could finish his videos every time he would fall asleep after being seated in front of the computer for hours, she would go with him to every award show, premiere or party that he got invited to even if she had to wake up bright and early the next day.
Three hours was how long it took for (Y/N) to check on Colby after he disappeared into his office to edit his new video, she had taken that time to do some cleaning around the apartment and finish a paper for one of her classes. It was late and it wasn’t like Colby to not take a break to come out and eat something during his process of editing, that’s why she decided to check on him.
What she found when she opened the door was heartwarming. Colby had his head laying on the desk, mouth slightly open, eyes closed and headphones weirdly positioned on part of his face while there was nothing playing on the screen because it had been too long and the program had run out of footage.
“Colby” she kept her voice a whisper to not scare him, although she knew it would be unlikely to wake him up by just whispering “Coooolby” now the tone was louder while she removed the headphones from his head, but still no reaction at all.
It wasn’t going to work unless there was physical contact so she started to run her fingers through his hair, gaining a hum from the sleepy boy “Come on, let’s go to bed” she said softly, getting closer so she could kiss his temple, to what he reacted by finally opening his eyes, he looked confused and kind of lost “you fell asleep while editing” she explained “come with me” with a light pull on his hand Colby stood up, not keeping his balance very well, he was still more asleep than awake.
“I have to finish the video” it was almost impossible to understand what he was saying, he was finally lying in bed and he automatically closed his eyes when he started mumbling a bunch of nonsense.
“Just take some rest, you’ll finish it later” that made him shut up about the video and fall back to sleep, which (Y/N) took as her opportunity to go into his office and finish editing the video for him.
The whole thing ended up with Colby waking up the next morning really confused, first because he didn’t know how he had ended in the bed, and second because (Y/N) wasn’t sleeping next to him.
He looked around the small apartment, her phone was on the kitchen counter next to her laptop and a pile of notes for her classes, but she was nowhere to be found, so he tried the last place he thought she would be – his office.
“(Y/N), hey, wake up” he squatted next to the chair where she had fallen asleep, takin her hand in his and giving it a squeeze. When she opened her eyes and met a smile appeared on Colby’s face “why are you doing sleeping here?” he chuckled when she frowned like she didn’t even know the answer to that, but memories came quick to her memory.
“I finished your video” she pointed towards the computer, she still sounded a little groggy “and then… I don’t know” while she rubbed the sleep from her eyes she tried to remember at what point she fell asleep, but there was no memory of that.
What (Y/N) couldn’t realize in her tired state was the adoration on Colby’s face, he thought it was impossible to be more in love with her, but every day he found something else that made him fall harder and harder.
“Why don’t we go back to bed? Both of us” at that appealing proposition (Y/N) could only nod, a big smile on her face as she took Colby’s hand and let him lead her to their bedroom.
It had been two years of their new found dynamic when (Y/N) got herself the opportunity of a lifetime; she had got offered a scholarship to study her third year in Chicago. To say she was excited wasn’t good enough to describe how she got home that day, bursting through the door screaming and jumping, talking so fast Colby couldn’t understand what she was saying, but once he did he was just as excited for her as she was.
They both knew that if she took that opportunity they would have to deal with a long distance relationship, for the year that the scholarship lasted though. Here’s the thing, they were okay with it, they supported and loved each other so much that they would go through a year of texts, facetimes, phone calls and brief visits if that meant (Y/N) got to live an experience like that.
Their willingness to go through didn’t mean they expected it to be as hard at it ended up being. At first they called each other every day, but as their schedules got busier it became harder to keep that pace. They didn’t make a big deal out of it because they still talked regularly.
But things got rough, whenever (Y/N) felt the stress of classes taking over her and she couldn’t get a hold of Colby she felt like they were getting farther away than the distance between Chicago and LA. Same for Colby, whenever he got frustrated with a video and he needed (Y/N) to feel better about it, but she wouldn’t pick up because she was in class meaning he had no idea when he could talk with her, Colby got even more frustrated.
Love was stronger than that, or so they liked to believe, because they didn’t want to face a reality where they were drifting apart.
As the year came to an end Colby thought they would finally go back to their normality, the beautiful dynamic they shared. They would be a team again, but (Y/N) had other plans and she was scared to share them with Colby in case things ended poorly.
Her fears made her not say a word about it for the first couple of days once she was back home, but Colby knew her very well and he knew behind all that happiness there was something hiding.
“What’s going on?” Colby was sitting on the kitchen counter, watching (Y/N) make dinner, when the question he had been dying to ask left his lips.
“What do you mean? I’m making dinner, that’s going on” (Y/N) chuckled, not even turning around, not realizing how serious Colby was.
“No, what’s going on with you?” that made (Y/N) turn to see the expression on Colby’s face, he looked sad and that’s when she knew it was time to tell him “you’re back, but most of the time it feels like you’re still gone”
The boy wasn’t wrong, she stressed so much about how to tell him that a lot of times she was somewhere else deep in her thoughts.
(Y/N) moved closer to him, standing in the gap between her legs, she grabbed his hand and intertwined their fingers. Colby smiled softly, giving her hand a squeeze, he couldn’t help it every time she was close to him and as much as she hated doing it (Y/N) had to break the news to him, even if seeing him smiling at her like that in front of her made the girl question her decision, she had to do it.
“I got offered an international voluntary work” Colby’s smile vanished, it was replaced by a confused frown.
“Did you take it?” he was scared of the answer, of how it would feel to know she had made such a big decision without telling him first, not like he had to give her permission, but she was planning on making a huge change and they were on a relationship, he deserved to know, right?
“No, I told them I needed to think about it, I wanted to talk about it with you first” that made him feel like a weight had been lifted of his shoulders “but I want to go” he shouldn’t be surprised, but he was. He didn’t intent on letting go of her hand as fast as he did, but he did it anyways. The action broke (Y/N)’s heart as much as her words had broken Colby’s.
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” the tone on his voice was calmed, almost distant.
“Because I was scared of how this could affect us” they were an honest couple, they shared their fears with each other even if that fear involved the other person.
“and how is this supposed to affect us?” he needed to know where she wanted to go with all of it, did she want to break up with him?
“I don’t know… I guess I was hoping we could just keep going the way we had been going this past year” breaking up was the last option, but she didn’t want to lie to herself because it was still a possibility.
Silence filled the room, Colby’s brain working at full speed trying to process the situation unfolding in front of him and how to respond to it, he wished there was a manual with an answer of what to do in a moment like this.
Even if he wanted to say it was going to be okay if they did that, if they spent separated who knows how long this time, he couldn’t – because he didn’t know if they would be okay doing that again.
“Can I…” his voice got caught up, making him have to clear his throat to speak with a steady voice “Can I just have some time to think about it?”
“Yes, yeah, of course you can” (Y/N)’s tone was understanding, because even if this situation broke her heart, she had time to process the information from the day she was offered the job up until this point, so she wasn’t going to ask an immediate response from Colby right away “I’m sorry Colbs” that caught his attention “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner”
He flashed a sad smile in her direction, he knew she was really sorry and not only for not telling him sooner but for putting them in that position.
“We’ll figure things out, don’t worry” one of his hands moved up to her cheek, having physical contact with Colby again made (Y/N)’s nerves die down, it made her hopeful they would actually find a solution “we always figure things out” he murmured before planting a kiss on her temple.
The next couple of days were weird. It felt like something had been taken away from both of them already, the tense atmosphere every time they were in the same room at the same time. (Y/N) was waiting on Colby to say what was going on through his head and Colby didn’t know how to word the thoughts running wild in his mind.
Trying to figure things out by his own became a nightmare so he spent more time at Sam’s apartment than his and (Y/N)’s making her think things were worse than what she anticipated.
It all happened exactly four days later while they were watching a movie in the comfort of their living room, the fact that something felt odd didn’t mean they weren’t a couple or didn’t stop them from their routine.
“Do you really think we can do long distance again?” That was the question that started all. One second they were paying attention to the movie, the next Colby was asking that out of the blue “it’s not like you’re going to Chicago, you’re going who knows where internationally”
(Y/N) moved to be sitting sideways, facing Colby, if they were about to have that conversation it had to be face to face “Mozambique” last time they talked about it they didn’t get to the point of where was she going exactly and knowing it know didn’t help either.
“That’s not a plane ride away, that’s a different continent and a whole different hemisphere!” Colby didn’t really wanna lose his shit, but he did. Because deep down he thought maybe they could do it, maybe they could go through it again and make it to the other side victorious, but knowing she was going to the other side of the world was a different story “tell me, do you really think we can do that much of a long distance?” as quickly as he had lost his nerves he went back to calmness, at least an exterior one.
(Y/N) didn’t answer right after, she knew the answer to that question and she didn’t want to say it out loud, she didn’t want to be the responsible for trashing their relationship, but even given the circumstances Colby didn’t blame her, not even the smallest bit. He could be feeling all kinds of heartache, but at the end of it all he would always be proud of her for chasing after her dream, he would blame himself if he tried to stop her just to stay there with him.
“(Y/N) I want you to be yourself, I want you to experience everything life has to offer you” he placed a hand on her knee and gave it a reassuring squeeze.
She knew what he meant, she knew each of them were their own person and it was just too bad their paths weren’t crossing but taking very different directions.
“Are we…” it was too scary for her to finish the sentence and Colby was quick to cut her off.
“No” he chuckled, maybe way too nervous to admit that they were going to do what he least wanted “I love you”
“And I love you too” (Y/N) almost interrupted him, but she needed to know she had reminded Colby.
“More than I’ve ever loved anybody”
“But what if that is just not enough anymore” the words left her mouth before she could even process them.
The room fell silent again, making both look down, realizing that it was probably not enough to keep their relationship alive for another year while they were apart.
“So what does this mean? Are we…” his voice was low, almost a whisper. Neither of them could finish the damn sentence and say out loud anything related to breaking up because that was too real.
With all the hurt in her heart (Y/N) nodded, feeling the tears welling up in her eyes. It was over, just like that, four years of relationship had come to an end. For some reason she wished it was different, that she could blame Colby because he had done something wrong or because they didn’t love each other anymore or the relationship had become toxic, she wished she could hate him, but that wasn’t the case. It was over while they still loved each other deeply and unconditionally.
The moment (Y/N) looked up she noticed the silent tears running down Colby’s cheeks, making her sight get blurrier with her own tears.
“I should…” she was pointing in the direction of their room, unable to finish the sentence with her shaky voice. Colby knew what she meant, nevertheless. she meant she should pack her things, so he just nodded as he whipped his tears and tried to collect himself.
(Y/N) didn’t wait another second and started her way to their room, a tight feeling growing in her chest with every step she took, she couldn’t believe that was it, that would be one of the last moments she would live with Colby, the boy she considered the love of her life as cheesy as that sounded – she hated cheesy stuff, but not when it was related to Colby, she loved everything about that goof emo boy.
Colby stood up too, with the intention of going next door to his best friend’s apartment. If there was something he couldn’t do that was watch (Y/N) pack her things to leave him all by himself in their apartment, the one they had decorated together, the one they had so many memories in. He couldn’t stand the thought of letting her go, so he had to get out of the picture.
Before he could move from his spot (Y/N)’s arms were wrapped around his neck in a tight hug and he didn’t hesitate a second when it came to hugging her back, he wrapped his arms around her trembling body. He couldn’t see her face, but he could hear her sniffles, he could feel her racing heart against his chest and her wet cheek when it came into contact with the skin of his neck.
Sometimes actions speak louder than words, this was one of those times. The only sound audible in the room being their quiet sobs as they held each other close for one last time, too scared to let go of that moment because they would be entering the unknown, a new chapter on their lives they didn’t count on it being them taking different directions.
After a few minutes (Y/N) had to pull back, she knew if she stayed longer she would never leave and she had to. Colby didn’t make it easy either, he was holding onto her for dear life, he knew that saying about letting someone you love go, then if they come back that means they’re yours, but in that moment he thought that was bullshit – for Colby it had always been clear, they were it for each other.
Sadly, for the young man, he couldn’t make her stay if that wasn’t what she wanted. For the look on her face when she pulled back from his embrace he would swear she wanted to stay there with him, his body reacted to it automatically dropping his hands a few inches to hold her tight by her waist.
A little smile appeared on (Y/N)’s sad face at his action, but it also made the tears roll faster down her blush cheeks.
Unlike Colby’s hands, (Y/N)’s went up, from his shoulder to his neck, using her thumbs to caress his soft jaw. Eyes traveling from his lips – those she adored kissing – to his nose, with that shiny piercing that she remembered holding his hand while he was getting it, up to his gorgeous blue eyes now filled with tears. One of her hands moved further up to his cheeks – his immediate reaction was leaning on her touch – while her other hand traveled up to the blue tips of his hair, that only made his beauty look even more out of this world.
In that moment Colby only wanted to do one thing, beg her to stay. He would get on his knees if that was what it took. Instead, he said nothing, he just looked at her with eyes still filled with love and adoration like they had always been for her.
“Please take care of yourself Colbs” voice broken just like the look on her eyes as she pulled away from him, immediately feeling cold without his touch against her skin.
Colby couldn’t bring himself to say anything back, he could only watch as she turned around and made her way into their bedroom, closing the door behind her instead of coming back to his arms again.
With a door between them is when they finally broke. (Y/N) didn’t even take a step before dropping on the floor, back against the door, and broke into an uncontrolled crying, she had never felt that kind of pain before, how her chest hurt as if her heart had actually broken and how it felt like there was a part of her starting to get numb and lost.
On the other side of the door Colby could hear her sobs and it didn’t make it easy for his own crying. He couldn’t be there, not while she was crying on the other room and much less when she packed her things and leave, so he left to a safe place – Sam’s apartment.
That is how things turned out. That was the last time Colby saw (Y/N) before she left to start her new adventure far away from him, but don’t let them fool you, because that wasn’t the last time their paths were going to cross, just the same way life stepped in their way once it was about to step a second time to shake both of their worlds and change everything they thought they knew.
let me know what you think :)
All you had to do was stay, part 2
