I try to learn from him.  It’s not wrong to feel feelings. What we feel (even if it’s irrational) is valid. It is our job to manage our actions so that we don’t hurt others.  

i love lwj’s character so much, i love the subversion of the “possessive, jealous boyfriend”, i love a character who is fully aware his love can be possessive and actively fights so it doesn’t affect anyone other than himself (even though he slips sometimes), a character whose generational trauma made him terrified of becoming like his father (whose possessive love made lz’s mother miserable until the end of her life), a character who loves so deeply and devotedly but knows that the object of his affections does not owe him anything for it and so keeps them at an arm’s lenght, a character who is constantly battling his wish to keep his loved one safe while aware that he cannot do it in a way that won’t make them feel caged, so he can only let them go and watch them fade away

i love a character who feels like a real person because he DOES feel jealousy and possessiveness and all those bad things, but because he’s aware of it and unwilling to let it control him it makes him a much better person than people who pretend they don’t feel anything at all until it consumes them

When writing always remember… a character flaw is only a flaw until becomes useful. 

Is your protagonist manipulative? Well that’s awful… until they manipulate the antagonist into making a decision that saves the lives of their friends. 

Is your protagonist a skeptic? Well that’s not good… until someone tries to lie to them. 

Is your protagonist overprotective? That sucks… until someone they love is in danger. 

Is your protagonist remorseless? Well that makes them pretty unlikeable… until a hard decision has to be made.
