This well-deserved recognition is evidence of the value that students like Sydney bring to the College of Human Sciences & Education (CHSE), Higher Education, and the entire LSU community. The award is the culmination of hard work and most of all a deep commitment to providing meaningful educational service to the increasingly diverse range of individuals educated in U.S. universities.

Deep.
C: I’m 27, I’m a bigger guy I’m 300 pounds but I carry it very well. I’ve still never had a girlfriend! It sucks, I find so many different types of women attractive from short to talk, thick to thin, pale to dark. I love a woman that’s smart and likes to have fun too and just talk and, I do find women like that, I just have horrible luck. They always move away. I’ve only really felt I had a chance with a handful of women and 3 moved to Texas within a month of me meeting them, one moved to North Carolina and 2 moved to California. Like I said, I have HORRIBLE luck.
One that moved to Texas is my best lady friend ever. She moved almost 6 years ago and we talk and text every single day like we might as well be a couple but, we can’t obviously. It makes me feel bad because I’ve always had issues with my body. I didn’t go to prom, and girls always love to tell me “I would definitely go with you if I wasn’t already in a relationship” how convenient… honestly, the best lady friends I have all live 5 states away from me. It’s like they are just more comfortable opening up to me when there’s no threat of me being close to them physically. Because obviously I’m a big black guy and I’m an inherent threat. At least that’s how I feel.
Women never say I will go with you now and I’m single. Not to blame women or anything, I just think they say that to help me feel better because they think I’m a nice person. Which I appreciate, I definitely do. I just wish I could take the next step and see what it’s like to have a girlfriend.

Let's talk about why New Orleans keeps flooding, after hundreds of years of us knowing that this place was below sea level. After millions of dollars of relief funds from Katrina. Why does it keep looking like this?

#ThrowbackThursday Last year was amazing. Seeing Shaun King, Cynthia Dillard, and Bill Ayers speak to students; teaching LSU's #BlackLivesMatter class under advisement of the amazing Dr. Kenny Fasching-Varner ("Working Through Whiteness: Examining White Racial Identity and Profession with Pre-service Teachers", " Racial Battle Fatigue in Higher Education: Exposing the Myth of Post-Racial America", etc.); and speaking as a panelist on police reform for the National Organization for Blacks in Law Enforcement (NOBLE) regional conference were some highlights of a remarkable first-year journey at THE Louisiana State University.

This always stays in the back of my mind. As someone who believes in tikkun olam, it's hard for me to imagine people I consider "progressive due to experience", my Jewish family, trying to "join the club". That's not our history. That's not our destiny.
