8. What is the origin of their personality? And let's be honest - how much of it is projecting?

Howdy! That would beee Hexame! As for where his personality came from, assuming this is asking from a character creation pov, the base idea for him was, in short, "cannibal scientist that's kind of a prick" as I love making weird lil unethical mad scientists.

Initially, as seen in like... one of the earliest sketches I have of him, an idea I was rotating was that he just kinda didn't give a shit and murdered people for sugar/cannibalism purposes under the excuse of Well That's Just How It Is Here :/ especially given his job of overseeing some aspects of sugar production. I wasn't quite happy with that because it seemed too straightforward for him just to be "oo cannibalistic vesper elsenn," so after creating more characters and getting a better grasp on how all of them interact with each other, that definitely changed course.

As for his current personality, in short, I think he's more along the lines of "guy who cares way too much for the job he has and ends up pushing others away first so he doesn't Have to care as a result" along with "guy who feels like there's no way to change things" which came from rotating the original idea of him "fitting in" to being a sugar scientist (by vesper standards - you know, probably unethical things like "how to get more sugar per corpse" and "studying sugar creation itself closely") and flipping it to him absolutely not fitting into that position as I found it far more interesting for him to be Like That but absolutely hate his own work and vices. I also felt it was more interesting for him to be caring yet an anxious coward instead of being another elsen in Vesper who just didn't care. He wants sugar production to stop but feels like its useless to try. He cares about others a lot, but purposefully acts like a prick with the view that "they don't care about me so I don't have to care about them" so that working on sugar production is easier. He hates being addicted to sugar because he finds its creation unethical, yet he's also a literal cannibal, even if its not him himself killing anyone.

And, for a character note, the main thing that made him have that view in story re. sugar originated from him attempting to cold turkey quit sugar and cannibalizing someone in a burnt fit unintentionally as a result and being, not literally, haunted by that.
