Critical thinking applicationÂ
The money should be invested in child development because shaping the youth well will result in a better outcome for the community in the later generations of adults. It should go to a long term solution because short term solutions wonât solve long term problems. Irrelevant information was the mentioning of local businesses and stores. All other information is relevant to the state of the neighborhood. Other information that could be needed to solve this problem is the estimated income of households. It should go to multiple interventions to result in a better overall outcome for the neighborhood. The proposal wouldnât change much, we would just spread it through different problems rather than focusing solely on youth development.

Who Are Today's Migrants?
    I interviewed Mohammed Nafiu about his experience and the key issues regarding where Mohammed emigrated. Mohammedâs age is 21 years, He came from Nigeria when he was 4 years old. Mohammed stated he had many pushes and pulls in his decision to immigrate. He told a story about when he first moved to the united states he felt surprised and confused because he never had snow back where he was from. He said that was a memorable experience for him that he never forgot. Moving to the United States he said it had its ups and downs. He also stated that his transition was small and rocky but smooth. Learning a new language was hard for Moe. It took a little time for him to spell and pronounce words in English. The process's smoothness was having different family members you could rely on. Mohammed explain that he came here with his mother, father, and siblings. He left one of his sisters at home. His mother was a nurse and his father was a banker. They both came to the United States and both ended up doing both of their professions. Mohammed shared that what he likes about America is the diversity and different cultures and religions. Mohammed also says he wants to finish his life in the united states. He would like to have a profession here. Mohammed explain that he doesnât regret coming to the United States it was actually a nice change he said. He would like to have a family here. He also stated that he does go back home to always visit with his family. Mohammed came to the United States on a green card. A green card is a permanent resident card in the United States. He explained that if you get into any illegal trouble you could get in trouble and get sent back to where you came from. Mohammed says he came from a middle-class family. I think that Mohammedâs experience was nice. I am happy that I was able to hear the backgrounds and struggles he went through coming to a different country. Itâs not every day you would think how people would have to adapt to something like that. Moving to a different country and seeing all the changes is something big that people that are immigrants have to deal with. This actually opened my eyes and showed me the environment.

Chapter 10 Fieldwork
I think you could live on $2 a day it just depends on your situation and your age. Personally, right now I can live on $2 a day if I had to itâs not something that I would want to do. Right now I have everything I need. I could go to the dining hall if I was hungry, but it depends on the day and time I go. In certain situations, $2 dollars a day wouldn't work, but you could make it work. It would take planning and budgeting but itâs possible. On Average living, on two dollars a day or less is considered extreme poverty for a reason. Though the poverty line in the U.S. is just $15.77 per day, the average daily consumer spending for an American amount to about $93.  In a week you could have $14 dollars if decide to save the $2 every day. In a month you could have $60 dollars but if you include your bills could you pay for them with $2 a month. So $2 dollars a day, week, or month would be very hard to provide for yourself.

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/06/education/learning/online-learning-higher-education.
Bourdieuâs theory is that cultural capital that plays a role in societal power and status. Bourdieu's theory illustrates Pierre Bourdieu was the theorist who believed that your cultural capital (knowledge, skills, education, etc.) plays a role in your power and status within society. Bourdieu's theory is like being a âsmart studentâ after high school goes straight to college. Then after college, you go to be a lawyer, nurse, doctor, or teacher. This is what we are taught to do so if you do something else then you are wrong? This article represents Pierre Bourdieuâs theory because our society, our schools, and our relationships taught us that we had to graduate from high school and go to college. But in reality, you donât have to do that you can do online classes or go to a trade school and still earn a degree. I feel that people put this title on you and say this is normal, but why? Why is this a normal thing? Does this mean if I donât do this I am wrong or not a normal student?
Max Weber;
Source;
Max Weber's theory was that individuals, have the opportunity to improve their quality of life and realize their life goals by access to things that could bring them into a higher lamination, but this access is determined by their wealth, power, and prestige. I feel that this shows Max Weber's theory because who Biden is can easily be influenced by someone by their reputation. Of course, if you see Beyonce doing something you might do it because you can look up to the person. Biden felt like the âstudent loan forgiveness program remains on hold while a federal appeals court considers a legal challenge brought by six GOP-led statesâ (CNN) Biden made a change because of student loans.
Karl Marx
Source;
The Karl Marx theory is how the power of capitalism takes control over workers.The main two components of his theory: are the proletariat and the bourgeoisie. The proletariat is the one working for these companies. The bourgeoisie is the one that is in charge of these companies and the workers. In the news story they say that the system is unfair. In eight states employers legally choose to pay workers. Who receive tips as a âsubminimumâ wage in some places as low as $2.13 an hour. This honestly wasnât fair at all

Chapter 9 fieldwork
Family is a small word but the definition is substantial. The purpose of family is for people firmly related by blood, aunts, cousins, guardians, and grandmoms. Honestly, Family isnât characterized or just limited by having blood relations. To me, family is a gathering of people who love, help, support, and value one another. The family joins through bonds and its individual bonds and connections. People say that family is love and joy. My family tree tells that itâs not that many individuals in my family tree. I have a small family but we spread love when we can. My whole family is very young. My grandma is only 51 years old and my mother is 33 years old. My family is so young they get into arguments a lot. I think my family is extraordinary because I feel like since my mother had me so young while my grandma had my mother so young it shows that we are still trying to build relationships and my mother is still getting her own business together as if I was born when my sister was born when she gets older my mother is going to be in a good place. Having a small family is hard because everything goes around and around it never falls. My family tree is cultivated by my great grandmother everything started with her in my family the Evans family tree. She has sisters, aunts, a mom, and a dad, but they are from different families. Family is very special to me; even though itâs small, the love spread through my family is substantial.

CH. 6 YOUR FIELDWORK
      My family has lived in this country for as long as I can remember. My family came from African American descent. My family doesnât embrace American Nationalism. American nationalism is a form of civic, ethnic, cultural, or economic influence found in the United States. Essentially, it indicates the aspects that characterize and distinguish the United States as an autonomous political community. My family celebrates the Fourth of July but we donât celebrate the exact meaning of the holiday. Fourth of July is Independence Day and is associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, political speeches, and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. None of my family have migrated from other parts of the world.Â

CH. 5 YOUR TURN FIELDWORK
Phenotype: This picture shows phenotype because it shows the different races. It shows the different colors of everyone and the different features of everyone. ââEvery race and person has a different genetic sequence. An example of phenotype is height, hair color, eye color, and more. Phenotype is basically how youâre viewed your physical form and structure. Phenotypes arenât just physical traits. It can also include behavior. In females typically white people get surgery to change themselves to look more like African American women. Itâs crazy because many African American people donât want big bottoms and want to lose weight because they think theyâre too big, but that is what society makes it feel like.
Miscegenation: is a demeaning historical term for interracial marriage. (page 162) The picture shows a black and white couple married. Miscegenation comes from the Latin word. White men were punished for marrying or dating black women because of how many white women there were. I donât understand why this would be a problem because you canât control what a person loves or like. If thatâs their preference then thatâs what people like even if it is a different race or gender. People believe that miscegenation is an answer to world peace. I think Miscegenation is amazing because you can learn much from a different race. Different backgrounds and different environments.
Racialization; is the process of categorizing, differentiating, and attributing a particular racial character to a person or group of people. (page 178) An example who would once have been forbidden from academic spaces and still feel out of place must navigate these repressive structures in their educational journeys. In Covid-19, people stopped eating from Chinese stores because supposedly covid-19 came from âChinese peopleâ. Or when people donât eat Jamaican food because they donât want them cooking their food. Putting people in groups is not okay because it's like stereotyping people. I wouldn't want to be placed in a group because of the color I am. Or separating me from something because of my skin color.
Microaggressions; is Common, everyday verbal or behavioral indignities and slights that communicate hostile, derogatory, and negative messages about someone's race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion. (page 182) Microaggression shows in this picture because of her hair texture. So people will say things because of how she looks. The quote someone said to her was probably very hurtful but sometimes people might not think they're affecting someone with what they say. Microaggressions are used a lot today. But instead of assuming they could ask her race.Â
Intersectionality; is an analytic framework for assessing how factors such as race, gender, and class interact to shape individual life chances and societal patterns of stratification. (page 187)Â Â Examples of intersectionality include gender, caste, sex, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, religion, disability, weight, and physical appearance.Â
Hypodescent is Sometimes called the "one drop of blood rule"; the assignment of children of racially "mixed" unions to the subordinate group. (page 169) This picture shows one drop of blood. It basically means if you have one drop of blood of any different race. In the picture, the girl is 100% Chinese and 100% caucasian if you see the in-between it means sheâs mixed. Another example is how Obama his mom was white but his dad was black so when people found out they said he wasnât fully black and he was mixed.

Consumer CultureÂ

     Through this assignment, I identified myself as a Consumer Culture. I have been that for quite some time. As I was writing my list I realized that I have more needs than wants. My list started to get longer and longer and I knew it would be impossible for me to write everything down in my room. I grew up with my mom and dad always dressing me so fly. So when I dress now I always feel like I got to dress a certain way. I own a lot of hygiene products because I love to smell good and I love taking care of myself. My mom never lets me even walk outside with a bonnet or a scarf even if I am just going to a store. When I see new stuff comes out, I always say, âI have to buy thisâ when I really donât need it. This makes me contemplate my spending, and I slowly plan on balancing my wants and needs. But I love having new clothes or shoes. I feel like I am being more of consumer culture. I always got what I wanted so having the wants didn't feel like more needs until you write it down and realized oh wow I have a lot of stuff that I don't need. I even listed my iPhone as a need but I feel like I need my iPhone because it connects to me in so many ways. I get to see my mom and family on facetime while in college so far away, and I get to have many apps and gadgets that i use on a daily basis. Wants are essential to my life. I think my most crucial want is probably the certain clothes I have. The clothes I have are necessary to me because I love to get dressed but might not be essential to someone else because their clothes could be some average pants or an average shirt that could be cheaper. But the clothes I have it has a label on them so it's more expensive. I feel that a lot of my wants are from trends. I think generation by generation it gets worse. This assignment has taught me that a lot of my wants that I don't even use every day just to show that I have them is not something I should continue to do. I shouldn't follow the fashion but sometimes get more needs than wants that could benefit me daily.

My Lava Lamp brightens up my room. Â Â Â CH. 1 Â FIELDWORK
My Lava lamp. I picked my Lava lamp because I feel that itâs familiar but unfamiliar. After all, it's a lamp but it's not expected because it's a lava lamp. A lava lamp isn't too familiar because when u think of a lamp you don't think of lava in a lamp. The Lava Lamp was made in the late 1960s. The lamp was invented by Edward Craven Walker, a British accountant. Edward determined the perfect design to install a light bulb as a heat source. He got his source from a settlement on a bottle called Orange Squash, a drink he had In England. In 1948 after Craven saw an egg timer in a bar in Hampshire, England made of a glass shaker placed in a pan with a boiling egg. He spent some time working for a British-American Tobacco Company followed by his service with the Royal Air Force during World War II. After his discharge from the RAF, he moved to London and began to develop his own home exchange travel business. Walker lived long enough to see his lava lampsâ revival; he died in Ringwood, Hampshire, England, on August 15, 2000, at the age of 82. Craven Walker lamp is made with water and wax. The secret ingredient is the solvent carbon tetrachloride which adds weight to the otherwise buoyant wax. The heat source comes from the bottom of the lamp and it liquefies the blob. The density decreases and it rises to the top where it's cool and it sinks back down. Walkerâs Company was manufacturing millions of Astro Lamps as he called them. Mathmos is the only official manufacturer of the Lava Lamp in the UK; and Haggerty Enterprises, which in 1976 acquired rights to produce Lava Brand Motion Lamps, is the only manufacturer of the original lava lamp in the United States. In 1965 he sold the U.S manufacturing rights to a company called Lava Lite. The impact that it has on my life is that it lights up my room. My Lamp also reminds me of myself. When the Lava Lamp is plugged in it shines bright and moves all day but when it's unplugged it doesnât move and isn't lit. When I donât feel motivated or ambitious, I don't move; even if I do move, I am not bright. I think I resemble the Lava Lamp a lot and itâs just like me in an unfamiliar way.
Lava Lamps today are made by mixing alcohol and water and mineral oil and dyes, combining each separately. When mixing the water and alcohol in the correct amount, the mineral oil can be made to float. Bryan Katzel is the VP of product development of Schylling, which makes Lava Brand lava lamps. What Katzel left out are chemicals that alter the density of the liquid and density is everything when it comes to lava lamps. Bryan started Warpo at the end of 2013 with him and his closest two friends who had been in the toy industry and were also lifelong toy collectors. He saw an opportunity to create retro collectibles in a way that hadn't been done before by working with artists making products back then. They thought why to keep using these same licenses over and over when you can explore things.
