If Sylvia does get close enough to your character that she finally starts dropping the "my lord/lady" honorific, she loves giving nicknames wherever she can.

Dimitri is Dima, for example. She would bond with him over both struggling to contain their power (Dimitri with physical strength, Sylvia with magical). Sylvia also called Mercedes and Annette Mercie and Annie, once she gets comfortable enough. Not everyone gets nicknames, sadly; Ingrid, Sylvain, Felix, Dedue, and Ashe's names are hard to shorten. In the case of Sylvain, shortening it to Sylv would feel too much like calling him by her own name, and she wants to stay as far away from that as possible lmfao

I do have a few headcanons of how her powers work, but I also want to make it clear, her body is not built for handling as much power as she contains. If she overdoes it, depending on the magic she used, her symptoms of magical exhaustion can change.

Fire = fevers and excessive sweating, sensitivity to touch Lightning = Numbness, tingling, temporary paralysis, loss of taste Ice = Numbness, shivering, hypothermia, stuffy nose/loss of smell Wind = Vertigo, nausea, shortness of breath, temporary deafness Light = Temporary blindness, headaches

I think there are more elements, but just like with Jack, Sylvia's biggest weakness is to any kind of dark/black magic. Shit burns her alive. She is capable of manipulating water and plants as well, but that's a lot harder to pull off mid-battle when something like fire and lightning comes so easily and so quickly. Unless the battlefield is near water, which she can easily then use to drown her opponents, or in a forest where she has easy access to vines to disarm them, she will most likely be using the classic elements.

However, she does also have access to lots of kinds of support magic, including sleep and healing.

These magic headcanons are still in the works, because I'm trying to figure out my footing on where I want Sylvia to be at the time. But rather than her having spells like Ragnarok or Bolganone right away, think of it more as her just having a bigger version of Fire, Elfire, Wind, Elwind, etc.

Sylvia is a rare example, even among Asterian people, of someone whose magical prowess covers nearly all elements. The depths of her strength are hidden even to herself, but they were only unlocked after she left her world. And no, she does not have a Star Spirit bonded to her.

Yet.

"I'm certain you feel it even now. That chill on your exposed skin... that's me. Ice magic, fire magic, wind magic... Any magic. It's more than just that incident. I've had times when students nearly got electrocuted for startling me. I'm just dangerous. It takes everything that I have to keep my magic under control."

Admittedly, she had hurt herself quite a few times with her own overwhelming power. Straining too hard on her magic was enough to incite symptoms within her depending on the element. Fevers, headaches, tingling or numbness, vertigo... She had every reason to avoid others. But with how she was trying to feel out what her limits were, and how she would be able to keep from hurting herself mid-battle.

All in all, she wasn't a suitable companion. Anyone who spent any time with her ran the risk of getting hurt.

"...It's just too dangerous to get close to me. I'm volatile. Anything could set me off, and everyone around me would get hurt."

"Is that incident the source of you saying you'll accidentally burn people?" If Byleth was honest, she wasn't exactly told much about the various students backgrounds. She simply had to learn as she go. Which how well that worked out is well, debatable.

She's probably the worst person to be broaching this subject. But she had to at least try and be a good professor for the students, who she isn't really much older than. Its a strange situation and she can't figure out what Rhea is thinking.

"Honestly, will a conversation between these two turn out okay?" Meanwhile Sothis couldn't help questioning things from her front row seat in Byleth's head.

"Right! Yes! Judai got a 6! And Ramen Daddy-- I-I mean Yusuke got a 7. My mistake! Sorry."

"Yeeaaahhhh, I expected as much, Ellie. No offense, but I haven't really shared much about myself with you. We're not quite that close yet. But hey, don't feel bad! Even Judai only got a 5 out of 10 score."

"I tried to make it harder than the last time, but... I wonder if it'll be too hard now? I did keep some of the questions, since they tripped people up before."

It seems Garreg Mach was holding yet another icebreaker event. Well, she already submitted her quiz to the counselor in the cathedral, so now all she had to do was wait.

"I've met North all of once, when he saved me from his own Agency. Everything I know about him came from Ellie and simple deduction."

Mmmmm headache. Naptime. Also at 5 I have a reservation at a restaurant so activity is spotty today

"Oh my god... That's-- that's awful." She clutched her own arm out of instinct. Sylvia was no stranger to human experimentation. But to have that done by one's own father? Her heart ached. Family was such a sacred and important part of what it meant to be human. How could someone do that to their own flesh and blood? To their precious children, whom they were meant to love?

To think fathers like that really existed out there in the world somewhere... No wonder Ellie needed a break.

"...give your brother my kindest regards when you see him again. I-- I'm so sorry that happened to him. And to you. You must really be exhausted..."

"...I'm glad he's gone." She caught herself off guard with that statement, equating Ellie and North's father to Goodwin in her mind. But the sentiment still remained. A man like that didn't deserve to be a father. If he never returned, it would still be too soon.

"to make a long story short, dad came back into the mix, kidnapped him, used him for experimenting and...well, Brian...the bastsrd,, did not see past the day. He's lost his arm and his eye. Please...if you see it ..don't stare..."

"....they repaired him enough to be able to live but whatever we try is not enough to even begin to repair the damages. Not even close." She sighs to herself. "Oddly, he insisted I go back here...to you guys..."

"North...--?! Your brother?! Oh no! Is he okay?! Should you be at his side right now?! What happened?" She halted in place, turning to face Ellie, shocked.

So it had been a dangerous mission, after all. Then, Sylvia's own needs should be put aside. Ellie was far too busy, clearly. Her brother, her job, her school... She had too much going on. Sylvia couldn't add more onto her plate.

"ah." She pauses. Definitely...nope. not jealous. A bit defensive, maybe but she was making connections outside of this...that...is okay, Ellie. Let it be. She smiles, nodding as she looks on.

"...same here. North got....severely injured." She breathes out. "So I'm currently in a bit of a stressful...mindset." That's not even the half of it but the other half she really cannot explain to Sylvia, for her own sake. For her own...life. she hated this delicate balance...

Oh, she was well aware of how Felix spoke about Dimitri. She had been challenged by the former often enough, as he wished to overcome his weakness to magic and face combat against the strongest opponents. She, however, had no interest in hurting Felix, or anyone else for that matter. Not on purpose, at any rate.

But this was a surprise. The supposedly emotionless professor, talking to her about friendship, of all things? She was waiting for the other shoe to drop. If this was a joke, she wasn't laughing.

When it came to burning, though...

Sylvia set her cup down on the saucer with a gentle clack. "...you've heard the rumors about what I've done, I'm sure. How I nearly burned the whole party of the Knights of Seiros alive when they first discovered me?"

"Well the reason for this, even if I'm not exactly used to these, is because you think you'd make a terrible friend for others. I don't really agree that you're not good enough to be someone's friend. Personally I wonder if I'm good enough to truly be your professor." Especially when the position was given to her by Rhea for some unknown reason.

"While manners aren't always important. You should hear how Felix talks about Dimitri sometimes. What I can't figure out is your second reason. You'll accidentally burn someone who gets to close?"

Her heart skipped a beat. Again with his insistence on calling me 'Lady'. At this point, if I stop first, it'll look like I'm looking down on him.

What a cruel game Ryuki had set up. Nevertheless, she cleared her throat and strode past him, holding her nose high to attempt to salvage what little was left of the dignity she somehow managed to stumble and trip over. Ignore the pounding in her heart. That was certainly unrelated.

Sylvia's path to the library books had already been long decided. Tomas had given her the tour pretty early on, so now he knew to expect her here regularly. Fodlan's history, right? The books on that topic were just by the door, on the left as they entered. She picked a few textbooks and motioned for the other to sit with her at one of the tables.

"So, what exactly were you struggling with? I can't promise to be very helpful, but I'll still give it my all."

Deep breath in....and deep breath out.

Aight, he's over it.

Making it up to the Library's door, he pushed it open, standing aside to keep one of them open and letting the other enter first. He may be some country kid, but he was raised with manners, and it was only polite to let a lady in first.
