The weekend had been busy. Both Beckett and Katrina were packing up their lives as best they could before they left for school. Oriana was back over every single day, helping them both. There wasn’t a lot of talking happening, and certainly not much laughing. What was supposed to be a happy time, him finally getting out of the house and on his own, was actually quite depressing. It was different when he was moving on his own accord. Now, both he and his sister were being kicked out completely. They’d rented two large storage pads, and every time their cars were packed full with things they didn’t need for school, they made a trip there and dropped everything off. Their parents helped as well, in complete silence.

Snow slowly circled around them, falling to the ground. Their faces still flushed from the previous activities, and snowflakes burned against their hot skin, while they went forward through the snow-covered ground. Beckett gently led Maeve further, his hand placed on her lower back, while another held hers in a firm, but gentle grip, helping her to walk. The satin blindfold was covering her eyes, and her heart fluttered inside her chest in anticipation when they came to a halt. After a moment, she felt him came behind her, his fingers sliding up her arms to the ties, and his hot breath caressed the sensitive skin behind her ear, sending a wake of goosebumps to dance along her spine. His fingers reaching for the ties letting a light material flatter to the ground, swaying on the wind. Maeve’s eyes widened, and the soft gasp left her lips when she saw a beautiful ice rink in front of them. The Christmas lights danced off the sides sparkling with different colours, and bright projectors illuminated the surface of the ice.

  It had been several days since the gardens, several days since Beckett had seen Oriana. For some reason, she was making herself scarce physically. Even Katrina was complaining about it.

“I just don’t understand why she suddenly just doesn’t want to do anything. She can’t possibly just want to sit at home until school starts next week. She’s even dodging my calls.”

“Really?” Beckett asked.

“Yeah! Half the time she doesn’t answer, and the other half she makes up some lame excuse about why she has to get off the phone. Do you think she’s mad at me? Have I done something since I’ve been home?”

Beckett looked guiltily into his sister’s eyes. He may not have seen Oriana…but they exchanged texts all day every day and spoke on the phone late into the nights. On more than one occasion, he was already on the phone with her, and that’s why she would come up with a reason she couldn’t talk to his sister.

It was the late afternoon of the next day, and it has been more than a day since the last time Beckett had seen Maeve. He lay motionless on the bed, his eyes raised toward the ceiling, and his thoughts were on the last conversation they had. He sighed heavily, feeling regret for the words he said. Now, after his nerves calmed down, and his minds were not clouded by the anger, he could recall more clearly the events of Friday’s night. Remembering the fact that he was the one who kissed her first, and the one who wanted more than ever to forget about his troubled family in that beautiful stranger’s arms. He sat up on the bed abruptly, raking his hands through his messy hair before dropping his head into his hands. The strangled pained groan escaped his throat, and he felt like a piece of crap. The memory of the words he said to the girl he barely knew, to the girl he spent the night with, floated to the surface. He closed his eyes, remembering their meeting in the club more clearly.

Beckett woke up with a start, groaning in pain as he realized he’d fallen asleep on the couch with his head in an uncomfortable position. It was still dark out, so it must still be in the night. He went to rub his neck, then realized there was someone on top of him. His gaze immediately landed on Oriana’s fiery red hair, then traveled along the curves of her body, her head and arm were in his lap and she was sound asleep. All thoughts of neck pain disappeared as he remembered she and Katrina come home the previous night, for his birthday. After Katrina went to bed, he stayed up with Oriana watching movies. Eventually Beckett grew tired and must have passed out, and apparently Oriana decided to use him as a pillow. His heart started beating faster remembering how she flirted with him, found reasons to touch him. He didn’t know what changed in the past year that she was studying abroad, but there was such a strong pull between them now and he didn’t know how to handle it. Katrina would kill them if they ever pursued a relationship, he was sure. But also…it’s not like Oriana would ever want a relationship with him anyway…or at least, that’s what he used to think. Now he wasn’t so sure.

Lady Yáng (NS*W) - Sinclaire x MC

A/N: It’s been so long since I’ve written smutty Sinclaire but that hot springs scene was just… lackluster and a little weird. It wasn’t at all where I was expecting it to go. 

Anyhow, this piece invokes bits about one of the four beauties of ancient China: Yáng Yùhuán. Originally the consort of the emperor’s son, Lady Yáng eventually became a great love of the Emperor Xuánzōng of the Táng dynasty. She was given the privilege of bathing at the hot springs near Xi’an, the capital during the Tang dynasty, with the emperor and there he was so taken by her delicate and feminine nature that she would be his great love. She loved lychee and the emperor would have the fruit imported from the far southern reaches of China for her. While their love is… profound… their story does not end happily for them. At all.

There is also a reference to the Chinese folktale of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, in which the two lovers were separated by the heavenly river only to be reunited once a year, by a bridge of magpies.
