It’s a foreign feeling by now, to be genuinely cared for. Jack’s brand of “caring” is too far off the mark - affectionate, maybe, but too overbearing; too possessive. It’s enough to drive anyone insane, her thoughts so often circling like buzzards around the crux of the problem; a corpse already picked clean: Do you love me? Do you really care?

With Peter, there is no question, at least.

“Wait,” Angel says, speaking past the lump forming in her throat. She fumbles; attempts to sit up by herself, propping her back against a pillow. Something long and thin brushes against the ridges of her spine with the movement, and she stiffens, realizing immediately what it is - the Eridium feed, snaking from… somewhere to the socket at the top of her spine. They’ve changed her clothes, too: a simple white cotton shirt and pants, the standard fare for a patient in the medbay, except for the logo emblazoned over her heart: a vault symbol wreathed in wings, the eponymous symbol of the Guardian Angel. It’s something she doesn’t exactly appreciate, but the lack of autonomy isn’t unusual.

(And of course, they never removed the collar - even here, like this, she is still regarded as a dangerous thing.)

“I missed you.” Her eyes prick with tears. “I didn’t think…” I didn’t think I’d still be here is what she wants to say, but she doesn’t know exactly how much he knows about the whole thing - and doesn’t want to exactly broadcast what her intent had been. “I didn’t think you’d be allowed to see me,” she adds. The mention of a nurse, though, has her on edge - she blinks, eyes wide with barely suppressed fear. “No, don’t call anyone. Please.”

     “OK, it’s OK, I won’t-- I won’t call anyone.” His cup of water falls off as soon as he places it on a side table, but he doesn’t pay it any mind, not when his sister’s panicking. Not when he made his sister panic; Peter tries to be considerate, but only ends up pulling at strings he didn’t even know were there and shredding them. At least Angel’s not... well, he’s not scared of her. Not even when Jack said she was dangerous.

     (It was an accident.)

     Clasping her hand still, and still gently (like he’s handling a bomb? or like his hands are poison?), he says, just as quiet, “I missed you too.” There’s a question, too, hanging back, and he might ask it later: if she’d known that the Vault Hunters were going to attack the bunker. Because only Jack could access the bunker, and only Angel would be able to direct them to get in there, for whatever reason. It’s only a working of common sense that leads him to two answers, and they’re both different ways of interpreting how she wanted out.

     He tries not to look at the collar, pretending it’s not there (he’s not successful, despite how good he’s gotten at pretending things aren’t really that bad), and hovers over more questions. How much she knows is the one at the forefront -- what she knows about the Vault Hunters’ goals exactly, what she knows about the other Siren who’s taken her place (if she knows that much), what she’d intended when she let the Vault Hunters into the Control Core.

     It’s amazing how much he can glean from the parts that aren’t said. Either that, or he’s just not well.

     He pats her hand gently, and asks, “What do you remember? In the Control Core, before you were brought here.” A small pause, and he adds, hoping to ease any potential worry (and maybe coax more out of her), “Dad hasn’t told me much -- just that you were in danger.” He still doesn’t look at the collar.

so right now, its very hard to gear donations towards jewish communities in ukraine due to a lack of common place correlation and the only open funds currently going toward funding israel and zionism. currently, the only reliably safe fund is this one, which will help jewish children in odessa.

as a jewish trans man, it would make me very happy if, in absence of that, you could donate to the transgender law center in order to provide resources and funding for trans children and teens affected by the recent texas and florida legislations. you can enter your own amount and donate as little as one dollar if its all you can afford. 

make your activism mean more than a hashtag on twitter or tumblr, even if its just spreading awareness.
