Seeing people try to defend the lack of racial/ethnic diversity on Tumblr is... wow. So let me share a reminder: It used to be better! Still dominantly white, but better than what it is now, at least. Then everyone got tired of the "blackouts" and other mostly Black-led conversations around racism because it was "ruining their fandom fun" or something idk and quite literally chased out so many bloggers of colour through harassment campaigns from the user-base and massive staff-led blog purges. This was not even that long ago, btw.

I can think of so many beloved mutuals who had to leave this site for their mental health because they just couldn't take it anymore.

Tumblr deserves every shred of criticism it gets for being so white after all that.

Criminal Bonds: Important Info

NOTE!!! this post is not my usual typing style, jus wanted to be formal :3

Criminal Bonds is one out of my three stories, and I created it at the same time with The Jackal and The Angel.

This story starts in the 40s-50s (primarily for character birthdays) and present time is the 80s into the early 2000s, however I will not be delving into the 2ks until I fully flesh out my ocs and the storyline!! (But it will be sooner or later............)

Because of the time period, please be aware from this point forward that there is sensitive subjects within this story, such as MKUltra or other humanitarian/human rights crimes.

What is MKUltra?

MKUltra was an illegal government experimentation program led by the CIA (1953-1973) with the main purpose to research on different interrogation methods on prisoners of war, immigrants, etc. This program violated human rights and laws, however it was still carried throughout the 60s in secret until news outlets began exposing the treatment of individuals in the camps the experimentations were performed in. Read one of the official documents and Harvard's Human Rights Paper.

My Motive:

A big part of Criminal Bonds is that I wanted to focus on the psychological/mental effects of trauma on an individual and give voice to survivors of different types of abuse (including abuse I've endured). That is why you'll see that the main cast, the Rogues, have all experienced some form of trauma or abuse and the catalyst for the events having been an extension of the post-World War 2 era + general society.

For storytelling, I don't really know where to begin for it!! It's tricky to decide on a medium for it, so for now (along with the other two stories) anything and almost everything relating to Criminal Bonds will be bits of in-universe events (i.e. Franziska's letter, radio recording transcripts, etc.) or just really silly things that will be specified as canon/non-canon since the story takes a lot of mental to think of. 💔

Please feel free to ask questions about Criminal Bonds and I do ask you to be respectful to me, the subject matter, & my characters. After I make a post dedicated to the characters, I'll be accepting critique so I can better represent!! Just remember, this is a big passion project for me and to also reflect myself in some aspects. Everyone deserves to be seen, and so do you and I. 🩵
