i used to be so good at writing strong, thoroughly-researched, thoroughly-edited essays.
as a kid in hs, my teacher literally came up to me, holding my 40 page essay on the intersection of the European witch hunts and capitalism/exploitation/gender roles (it was supposed to be 7 pages...whoops) and went like "this is literally a master's-degree level thesis. what are you doing?? you could literally use this as your final dissertation in a master's program, what the fuck."
NOW??? NOW?? you'd think I'd be oh so skilled. but alas. i can barely piece together two ideas. adhd skill-regression is so so real. im SOBBING

Crude word for some piece of Yeerk anatomy.
<Dapsen Lumber Company,> Ax said. <That's what the Yeerks call this logging company. Very funny.> "What's funny?" asked Marco. <Dapsen. It's a Yeerkish word that means . . . well. Never mind what it means. It isn't polite.>
Alright, folks! Any bets on which particular flavor of impolite word the yeerks managed to get on official government paperwork?

i think it should be illegal to not have paper menus. and it should be illegal to only accept digital payments and not accept cash
generally making anything accessible only with a phone sould be illegal. like genuinely regulated by the govt and forbidden. IMO

my best tip for anyone trying to get back into reading is to remember that you can read books to avoid other responsibilities in ur life and it can become a vice if you play your cards right

Absolutely not, my child. In fact, you should consider it your sacred duty to do so. Those beasts are a plague upon the eyes

I feel like people struggle to understand that my life as an aorace person is not centered around an absence of relationships. There is no romance shaped void that I am trying to live with, or live around, or which my life's purpose is to fill somehow.
I go to university and I go to work and I volunteer in my community and in the in-between moments I drink tea with my friends and I plant tomatoes on my balcony and there is no need for anything else. There is no room for anything else anyway.
When I am asked how I deal with 'the hole in my life' or what I do with 'all my free time', I know these questions are not about me at all. They are a reflection of the person asking.

idk if this is a contreversial take or not but i think that the ideal internet experience is being able to remove specific things (triggers, nsfw, gore) if you truly dont want to see them but overall being also shown things you aren’t interested in. i think one of my fave things about tumblr is seeing like 50% of my dash be about fandoms im not in, bands i dont like and quotes from books i dont want to read rather than this endless feedback loop of tiktok showing me ‘exactly what i want to see’ in a trap to keep me online as long as possible and blind to communities outside of my own. i want a mix of curating my own experience and a healthy dose of content i don’t already know i want to see, yknow?

I don’t know much about marketing but there HAS to have been some sort of paper somewhere written on the phenomenon of an ad campaign so effective it kneecaps the corporation down the line. The Subway 5 Dollar Foot Long has become a $15.99 thing of legend

“Be curious about what you’re writing about” is not stock Common Writing Advice but it really, really should be. There are a lot of written works that fail due to the authors just being obviously incurious about what they are writing about.
#the sewage system tangent is INTEGRAL#ok but for most books when there's an abridged version im like. what did they cut?#for les mis I'm like.... I am fairly certain I know some of the parts that were cut#I have a hard time whenever authors are trying to describe the local geography tho#the part where it was laying out the shape and features of some battlefield my eyes were glazing over
