Imagine Lauren... but in the Mum swap au

Kaisa would know about her probably since she and Johanna were close friends but would she try and look for Lauren? What happens when Lauren comes back, and it threatens the life she’s had to build with Hilda?

(If you don’t know what Mum swap is please ignore my rambling, I just have a lot of brain rot today XD)

Soooo I was really hyped to get this ask because I LOVE mumswap, but then I forgot about it for ages LMAO. Anyways, Caleb and I talked about a few different ways Lauren could be incorporated into the AU, and we ended up with around three options I think, but in the end, we came up with this-

Lauren runs away at the same time as she does in her canon timeline - before Hilda is born, and before Johanna leaves Trollberg. So she was gone before the whole Johanna-gets-deathly-sick-and-Kaisa-steals-a-child thing, meaning she has no idea she even has a little sister. She leaves for similar reasons to her canon, which I won’t get into because they might conflict with the mumswap timeline (see this is what I meant in this post when I said Lauren is THIS close to breaking the timeline). Her time in the wilderness doesn’t change, as this doesn’t involve any mumswap characters, it’s when she comes home that the changes become more prevalent -

Lauren comes home and reunites with Johanna a while after Hilda and Kaisa come to Trollberg, but before any Johanna-is-Hilda’s-bio-mum reveals. The kids know The Librarian fairly well at this point, well enough to be reasonably surprised when a grown woman claiming to be her daughter shows up out of nowhere

But Johanna quells any of their worries - and she’s delighted to have Lauren back, and given everything she’s lost, she’s….a little protective (and very affectionate)

With all that in mind, Lauren becomes a familiar face around the library, and many other parts of Trollberg, as her endless hunt for a stable job leads her all around the city. She adores Hilda and the kids, and is always happy to help them out on their adventures.

In terms of how this effects Kaisa-

We thought it would be fun to go the comedic route with this

Lauren and Kaisa know eachother, which means in order for shit not to hit the fan, the two of them can’t meet. However unlike Johanna, Lauren is not confined to the Library, so they’re more likely to come in close contact. But by some insane coincidence, they keep just missing eachother

Hilda, doesn’t notice anything off about this, she has no reason to believe she’s connected to The librarian or her daughter. As for Kaisa…

Yeah there may be a slight communication issue there

Lauren, of course, isn’t sceptical either, why should she suspect anything from the cute little girl who frequents the Library? There’s nothing suspicious about any of this

Right?

As you’ve probably notice by this point, Lauren’s design changes for the mumswap au! This post is pretty long already so I won’t include it here, but I do have a full ref for her! And I’ve got at least one more doodle I’m working on for this AU…

You’ve probably already noticed this but for this ask and the upcoming ref, I incorporated aspects of @calebs-hangout-corner’s style! It was very fun to do, and I really like this style so I’ll probably steal some of this stuff permanently :))
