A Popular Dish in Germany
German mustard, sometimes called English mustard, is a type of seed. Its literal translation is "dried bay" (in fact the seeds lose their flavour when heated). The seeds are dried out and then stored in the dry environment in which they normally live. When they are exposed to the air they expand and create that wonderfully crisp, salty taste - and it is this very taste that you will taste in this delicious soup. German mustard seeds have traditionally been used to season meat and fish with an aromatic oil known as Mustard Oil. When these seeds are ground they produce that musty Mustard flavor which has been enjoyed for centuries. The seeds are also thought to help cure food poisoning. However, modern research indicates that the seeds have antiseptic properties too. This, along with the fact that the seeds keep better than most other types of seeds, makes them a great addition to any recipe calling for mustard seeds. There are a variety of ways to make use of these wonderful little seeds. You can make a fantastic ketchup or relish to go with your next barbeque. Just blend about 2 teaspoons of black mustard seeds with about one cup of water in a small sauce pan and bring to a gentle boil. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Stir in your desired spices and vinegar (see recipe above) and let stand to mix. Once this is done, you can now serve your delicious relish. https://bestreviews.tips/german-mustard_181413/ Alternatively, German mustard can be used as a great base for many different recipes. Some examples include: Brown rice pilaf, potato salad, potato dumpling soup, vegetable cakes, and ketchup. As it's stronger tasting than the English variety, you may want to try a black extract blend mixed with vinegar (this is what gives it that spicy mustard taste). A more traditional version of this dish consists of grilling raw bread dough (also known as "Germis"), onions, and a savory ground grain product such as barley or wheat. This preparation is called "Hummis" in German. To make this dish, simply mix together 2 teaspoons of mustard seed with enough water to cover the grains and enough flour to make it sufficient for your bread to rise. Use a meat mallet to crush the seeds into the flour. Then add the onions and cook for around three minutes. Drain off the liquid and place onto a plate, then cut up the remaining mustard seeds into small pieces. For a delicious dessert, mix together two egg yolks, one tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice, one teaspoon of dried mustard seeds, one tablespoon of dried or ground thyme, and one tablespoon of brown sugar. Heat the oven and gently heat the mixture until it begins to simmer. Reduce the heat, and add the egg yolk, lemon juice, thyme, and brown sugar at the same time. Reduce the temperature and allow the mixture to simmer for approximately five minutes. When ready, fold the yolk over so that the mustard seeds are enclosed within the egg yolk.

An excellent way to incorporate German mustard seeds into your cooking is to use it as an ingredient in a classic mustard sauce. To make a good recipe, combine 3 tablespoons of mustard seeds with a tablespoon of chopped celery. You can also substitute dried or ground mustard for mustard in this recipe. Alternatively, you can add the turmeric flavour from ground roasted pippity leaves to this recipe to add a mustard flavour to your dishes. Like many dishes from Germany, the preparation for German mustard is simple, yet elegant. There are countless variations of this popular dish, and its original recipe is often used in Germany's most popular foods including pork and turkey. If you are looking for a dish that is easy to prepare, then this is an excellent option for you to try.
