All About Shadowban

Tumblr ‘How To’s

I had no idea about Tumblr’s shadowban until it happened to me. Since then, surprisingly quite a few number of people have texted me about them getting shadowbanned as well. Now that I’m aware of it, I realize it’s becoming increasingly common for legit blogs like mine to get shadowbanned for no reason at all. So hope this helps everyone who has to unnecessarily go through this.

What does shadowban exactly mean?

Basically, your blog exists and mostly functions as it normally would, but Tumblr has made it invisible to everyone else. Tumblr lets you believe that everything is fine and that you can interact with others, but actually you can’t. (Look at the wikipedia definition here.)

Why does this happen?

From what I understand, blogs get shadowbanned since they are suspected of being bots, or just sketchy, or they might be going against Tumblr’s guidelines. I’m not sure, but it might also happen if someone has reported your blog. 

But more often than not, it’s just a tumblr glitch. 

How to tell if your blog has been shadowbanned? And most of the things that happen during this state.

(These are the things that I personally went through. It might not be the same for everyone. Also, my main blog (@that-damn-girl) was shadowbanned. My side-blogs were fine. So in case your main blog is fine but your side blog is shadowbanned, you might have a different experience.)

Concept: a woman is holding hands with a robot, and the woman is wearing a shirt that says "I like my women like I like my keyboards" on the front and "mechanical" on the back, over an exploded view of a cherry mx brown keyswitch.

The robot's shirt says "flesh lover" in the old recaptcha distorted text style. The back has "select all the squares with the cutest girl" and a 3x3 montage of photos of the woman currently holding her right hand.

Anime Exposure

This is an official reminder to never under any circumstances expose your combat dolls to Japanese Animation, or 'anime' as it is more colloquially known.

Here are a few signs that a doll may have been exposed to 'anime' and has become 'weebified'.

If your doll has made a habit of moving at speeds faster than human eyes can perceive to raid the munitions facility of explosives while talking about what she's gonna do next loop, she may be undergoing what is known as a 'Homura arc'.

If the dolls are starting to 'name' their battle functions and screaming them in the middle of battle, only to drag the fallen enemy corpses back to base with them and insist that they're friends now, they have been exposed to highly lethal shounen battle series.

These are not silly quirks and not to be toyed with. We still haven't been able to contact base Alpha-C31 ever since a [Data-expunged] decided it was a good idea to show the entire squadron Evangelion.

We'd go check on them but the geiger counter won't stop beeping…
