Lot of us bought into the whole "nothing rots on Europa" shpeal the drill instructors would try and scare the cadets with. Yeah sure nothing rots in the permafrost if it flash-freezes... but nobody tells you what happens if you die in your ET-EV suit. Standard models kept you from freezing for a few cycles, but SOLOCS platoons got the extended patrol versions. Servo-assisted, durable as hell and could maintain life support on minimal power, heat pumps in em were so good they could run for a dozen cycles before recharging.

End of my first tour, my unit picked up a distress signal for a SOLOCS team that had been missing for almost 100 cycles. Found their ET-EVs frozen stiff, some of em even still standing like goddamn mannequins. Surveyor drones figured out they got hit by a Psi-Bomb strike, back before the War Council outlawed em. Fried their nervous system in an instant, but their life support systems kept em from freezing to death. Poor bastards just putrefied in their suits, slowly turning into pools of septic sludge while the power cells kept everything running... Fuckin wouldn't wish that on anyone.

If someone ever tells you nothing rots on that iceball, believe it if you want. Hell you can believe in a merciful god too, but as far as I could tell? There ain't one on Europa.
