I think it should be noted that the way that both Markus and Connor wake up androids, and I think this really shows us how these “keys” to waking androids into deviancy is kind of personalized in some way.

When we see the way Markus awakens people, it’s very indicative of his personality. His power and control, his care and gentle but guiding light type of personality and way of speech. At least in terms of pacifist Markus, I can’t speak for the alternate as I’ve never seen it personally! But he seems to kind of lull them into awakening. It’s jarring but they seem more like he’s coaxing them into the world very softly. From the first time he does it with the androids at the Cyberlife warehouse to on the street during the march and so on. He’s very gentle and while it’s still kind of weird for those who are waking up they seem far more like he’s gently rousing them from some sleep or fog rather than being shaken. 

Personally, I think this is intentional. It’s not just one “key” but kind of a means of reaching out. It’s affected by the person awakening them, and all androids can do it once they’re awakened. It makes sense in the way that they can interface and share memories, feelings, and so on. So perhaps some remnants of that exist when awakening androids as well?

On the other hand, with Connor when he first converts or awakens the androids in Cyberlife he has that sense of urgency in his voice and movements when he speaks. “Wake up!” he doesn’t shout it but it’s kind of a loud whisper through grit teeth, he’s on edge, it’s understandable and the androids respond to this. They seem far more jarred and kind of startled which floods through all of the androids as they wake each other up. They can’t really alter the way that “key” effects others with their own memories and emotions because, they haven’t really had any yet, they’re still new. So that urgency, that fear, and probably some remnants of anxiety, pressure, internal conflict and so on from Connor is still very much alive within that awakening message. It’s why they continue to repeat it; “Wake up!” “Wake up!” “Wake up!” 

Now, I’m not saying this as a means of saying he’s wrong for being scared or bad for not knowing how to awaken people in the same way as Markus. I’m simply pointing out that I think Connor holds a lot of fear and I think the means of converting people is far more complex and personal than simply a means to forcibly unlock a “back door” or break a red wall.
