Photographic Practice

I folded a paper boat and took some photos as I just noticed the character cannot stand on the water.

Stone Statues - Realistic Lake Effect

After trying different methods, I found that this effect looked the most realistic. Firstly, I created a new document, added a noise effect and made it blurry. In the red and green channels, I added the emboss effects respectively and made the light angles different. Then I transformed the layer in perspective. In the stone statues document, I distorted the reflection by displacing the texture document， and added a gaussian effect to make it more realistic.

Concept - Giant Stone Statues

This scene combined with three photos. I will try to create the water effect to the reflection of the stone statues.

Stone Hands - Development

I drew the stone cracks and gold using the brush tool in Photoshop. I paid attention to the direction of the light and the layers of stone and gold.

Concept - Hands

I put the photos of elements and textures together - it’s 10 photos - to create the scene of the stone hands. Next step, I will adjust the hue, saturation, light and shadow to make sure that the direction of the light is correct.

Photographic Practice

I asked my sister to be the model and took some photos for the character and stone statues in my scenes.

Floating Stones - Development 2

I adjusted the brightness, contrast, hue and saturation for all the photos to make them fit together. I added the light and shadow using the brush tool and blending mode to  make it look further realistic. I made the floating stones blue so it can attract the audience’s attention. I blurred the nearest stone and added a lens flare to simulate a real photograph. 

Next step, I will took more photographs, especially the photos of the character. Then I will add it to this image and create the other two images.

Decision of the Light

I tried two different ways to adjust the light of the stones and I chose the second one, as I throught the distance between the stones and wall is close so the light may not hit the stones.

Floating Stones - Development

I put the elements and textures (16 photos) I took together to create the scene. I will adjust the colour (hue and saturation) and light and shadow later.

Getting Ideas from Tutorials

After watching some tutorials, I decided to add a backgound of cave using a new technique I had learned.

Concept - Floating Stones

After getting feedback, I found that it’s difficult to make the floating stones look big in this scene, and it may look like a miniature world at the end. So I went back to my sketch and I noticed that I need to add a background - a richer environment and more references can make the floating stones look big.

Photogrphic Practice

I took so many photos of the textures and elements I’m going to use. And I picked up some gravel and stones to create the scene. I will see if it’s work in photo manipulation later. 

I plan to take some photos of hands, people and the beach either this weekend or next week, as my nails are painted doesn't fit the theme, and it's been raining for the last few days so I haven't had a chance to go to the beach.
