THE SCENT OF MORNINGS
Oil on linen canvas, 120 X 170 cm
https://www.theophile-delaine.art
The series “Correspondences” on the theme of Charles Baudelaire’s sonnet speaks of the relationship between man and nature, his ability to listen, the awakening of his senses which nevertheless lead him to understand how mysterious the messages of the latter still are. Every morning I get up at dawn, every morning I see the sun rise over the ocean and it is never the same. This morning for example, while the sky was overcast just at the edge of the coast, you could hear the bees busy on the coconut flowers, the wind was light and the strong heat of the southern summer was rising in the air. The birds were singing. It is these sensations, this perception of these intimate moments that I wanted to interpret in this painting, contrasting between the joy and the madness of the yellow of a new day, the calm, the serenity of a sky and a sea in a luminous blue and the passing of time in the bright reds and the deep blue of life. CONTEMPLATION OPUS X

This is "Contemplation Opus X" oil on linen, 60 x 50 cm which closes the "Contemplation" series. It will not be for sale as he fell in love with Opus IV and they ran off this afternoon to hang together on a wall in the south of the island (in fact it was custom made to keep it company)

CONTEMPLATION OPUS IX
Oil on linen, 92 x 120 cm
https://www.theophile-delaine.art
Ninth opus of the series "Contemplation" this abstract painting remains in blue tones. Large vertical format, it represents nothing but expresses something. The artist does not have much else to say when asked to describe this painting where everything is already said. For everything is said, of course, but in what way? We will leave it to the viewer to read the subtleties of a pictorial language that addresses the emotional aspects of our consciousness as he sees fit. But let's not get lost and let's look first with our eyes, it's better. Then comes the contemplation.

Here is the eighth opus in the “Contemplation” series, an abstract expressionist painting completed in October 2021." CONTEMPLATION OPUS I
Oil on canvas, 100 X 75 cm
https://www.theophile-delaine.art
This the first opus of the series of lyrical abstract paintings "Contemplation" A series dedicated to the passivity necessary to feel and perceive the beauty of the world, far from the tumult and psychoses of all kinds. The wind, nature, color, storms, oceans and mountains as they are, without asking questions, to find in them the depth of inner calm without which there is no sense in all this. The opus I evokes polar landscapes, cascades of colors spilling into a gulf of disturbing depth.

This abstract expressionist painting was realized in March 2020

CONTEMPLATION OPUS II
Oil on canvas, 85 x 65 cm
June Nights In summer, when day has fled, the plain covered with flowers Pours out far away an intoxicating scent; Eyes shut, ears half open to noises, We only half sleep in a transparent slumber. The stars are purer, the shade seems pleasanter; A hazy half-day colors the eternal dome; And the sweet pale dawn awaiting her hour Seems to wander all night at the bottom of the sky. Victor Hugo

Contemplation Opus III
Oil on linen canvas, 120 x 90 cm.
This abstract lyrical painting evokes elements that are deep and mysterious. A wide band of blue shades crosses the painting diagonally, here like a waterfall, there like curtains hiding chasms of a blue very dark. These blues are surrounded by rather mineral shapes which sometimes fall in snowy or beige cascading, sometimes end in organic colored filaments echoing the second opus.

This abstract expressionist painting was realized in June 2020, it is the result of a long work of composition and research that required mountain walks, isolation, a perpetual struggle with a permanent wind. It marks a desire for calm and solitude in the face of the existential turmoil that has plagued humanity in recent times.
