I’ll always be amazed by this bit of animation. Like, it conveys so much information in just a few movements. It’s so perfect it’s almost as if I could hear whole lines of dialogue here : “ Huh ? uuhhhh... (what should I..) no ! nooooo... well actually yes.... of course yes it’s obvious isn’t it “

So last week I’ve been given the privilege to go to the Gamescom 2017 in Germany, to present our game Absolver to journalists of the world. I even got to present the game to a guy I used to watch regularly in a french video game site (I only saw him on screen before that ! ). I really can’t believe I’ve made it this far. This week I learnt that I’ve been given the title of : Animation Art Director in the credits of the game, which is huge.
I litterally came from, dropping out of engineering school as the worst element in history, spending 3 years in a 3D animation school I took by default, spending 1 year without any job nor opportunities and indebted by student loans, to this statue.
And even when I got recruited by the company. Everything was barebone at most. They only got the concept and no real concrete visual. I thought it would just turn out as a starting experience in a startup to get a necessary line to my CV. I didn’t really imagine we would make it this big for our first project. Personally, when I saw the amazing job the art team was doing on the visual, it put pressure on me. I felt like I needed to progress real’ fast in order not to weight them down with the animation. One year and a half (and a good amount of justified criticism in youtube comment sections) later, I kinda feel like crying when some people say that the animation was one of the thing that impressed them the most.
This week, our game came out. There are still issues the team is working on, but I got astonished by the amout of good reviews we got from the press. Sorry, I know it sounds like I’m bragging... but at the same time I don’t really have anyone to share this moment with, so I just decided to make a post about it. ^^;
