A few days ago I got my advance copy of “The Secret Loves of Geeks” and read the whole book in less than 24 hours. It is DELIGHTFUL, and I highly recommend you pick up a copy when it comes out on 2/14/2018 ♡ I contributed 2 pages of Genderqueer comics to that book. Another anthology I contributed to, @tabulaidemanthology, is now for sale on Gumroads as a PDF or paperback. You can order it right now~ :D

Thanks again for the wonderful recommendation and review! Tabula was built around the concept of unity and a delighting in oneself, and it’s great to see our intentions seen.
Check out 365 queer stories’ blog for even more great reviews of other great LGBTQ+ works!
Tabula Idem
edited by Iris Jay and Hye M
What it is: The full title is Tabula Idem: a queer tarot comic anthology. And that’s what it is, with a short comic for each of the Major Arcana. Some stories are more fantastic, some are closer to scifi, each one of them is gorgeous.
Why it’s on this list: This collection has 22 stories, all of them featuring queer characters. You have girls in love, boys in love, trans characters both binary and nonbinary. Characters defying what’s expected of their gender, alone or with a lover. It really does capture the spectrum of identities that our community has to offer.
Where you can find it: You can purchase the book or the ebook at their gumroad, and you can also find more information about the editors, the project, and the contributors on their blog @tabulaidemanthology.
Full List of the Contributors
Sometimes, a book sits on your shelf, waiting for you to need it.
That’s exactly what happened with the comic anthology Tabula Idem.
You know it’s the right time to read something when you’re crying only a few pages in. Even the introduction had my heart aching.
“The history of queerness is a history of adaption, of using creativity and community to flourish…. We design our own destinies, and then fight to protect and realize them.”
- Iris Jay, from the Introduction

A series of tarot pins based off of “unfortunate” card pulls (funded by Kickstarter)!
Editor Hye’s first collaborated work, Pacific Arcana - a non-profit tarot handbook PDF of a tarot deck based off of the 2013 movie Pacific Rim also funded on Kickstarter! While we’ve been incredibly busy on all fronts during the holidays, we announced our storefronts on Kickstarter and our FORTUNA MEDIA twitter near the middle of December, but wanted to give everyone a period of time in case backers hadn’t gotten their books yet by way of lost packages or postal errors.
We have some exciting things planned for other installments in store for FORTUNA MEDIA, so for more rapid up-to-date news, follow the @FortunaMedias twitter and keep your eyes peeled for the Fortuna Media website blog!

Books have arrived, and RCCC debut!
Hello hello, everyone!
Been a while since we’ve posted on here, huh? Well, we’ve been behind the scenes working on production, receiving products, and today we got the most valuable jewel of all, the books themselves! We have some exciting news, so let's kick it off: BOOKS HAVE LANDED AND THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL!
SO what does this mean for you all with regards to rewards?! Well, tiers will start to ship out the week after our debut at Rose City Comicon! That's right- from September 8-10 at booth AA (Artist Alley) BB 09, both editors Iris, Hye, and contributor/Lovers author Nero O'Reilly will be there selling their own original works, along with copies of TABULA! Stop by for tarot, comics, and a whole lotta queer goodies! Unfortunately (to our current knowledge), it doesn't seem as if we'll be having any other contributors tabling at RCCC, so if you missed out on the initial Kickstarter launch, this'll be your chance to purchase them until after KS fulfillment, or at GeekGirl Con where editor Iris will be tabling! (Note: We will be selling them online, but as said, shipments and sales won’t be until after KS rewards are all sent out).
We'll post another small reminder update once RCCC starts, but that's all for now, folks! As said above, rewards fulfillment will begin as soon as we're back from RCCC, and you'll be receiving individual shipping notifications once your goodies are in the mail. For backers, make sure your survey addresses are all up to date, and we can't wait to get you these beautiful books and cards.
Thank you all again, and we hope to see you in Portland next week!
--IJ & HM

WE DID IT EVERYONE!
Thank you so, so much to all of our backers! Now begins the waiting and production games and, once Kickstarter sends us the funds, we'll get to work sending the book off to print and all other rewards produced. Surveys will be sent out near the end of May or right at the beginning of June, but we expect to have the PDF of TABULA out by around that same time.
Knowing that we've broken our initial funding is so, so encouraging, and both editors are so thrilled to show you what TABULA IDEM is after all this time. It's been a long couple of months with both the initial and relaunch campaigns, and we're so, so thankful to have you along for the ride. We're still here, we're able to print and pay artists, we're able to create, and you're still here too, seeing and supporting the content you want to see in the world.
So, from everyone here- from contributor, editors, thank you so much for seeing TABULA IDEM through to funding, and we can't for you to see what we have in store.

TABULA IDEM has 2 stretch goals left with 24 hours to go!
This is it, the final countdown for TABULA IDEM’s Kickstarter! Yesterday, we broke our 3rd stretch goal, which means color insert pages for all 22 tarot images!
Remember that we’ve also unlocked Kickstarter-exclusive tarot decks (which you get one complimentary deck with each pledge at or above MIGHTY MAGUS), and an artist bonus, which grants each of our creators an extra $50! Remember we end tomorrow, May 2nd at 12PM PDT, so get your pre-orders in now for comics, tarot, and more! For now, let’s take a look at one of our Artist Features with @redgoldsparks and Alexandra Genetti.
XIX - THE SUN
Planetary Ruler of The Sun
Archaic Title - "The Lord of the Fire of the World"
After enduring the night of The Star and The Moon, we greet the morning with The Sun, rejoicing in a newfound hope and inner synergy that we have with ourselves. It is warmth, it is rejuvenation, a welcoming in of light whether it be for ourselves or those around us in harmony and balance.

Maia Kobabe is the author and illustrator of the webcomic “The Thief’s Tale,” a medieval fantasy story, as well as the Ignatz nominated “Tom o’Bedlam” and numerous other short comics. Maia graduated from California College of the Arts with an MFA in Comics in 2015. Alexandra Genetti is the author and illustrator of “The Wheel of Change Tarot,” a complete deck and companion book. While true to the traditional structure of the Tarot, Alexandra’s tarot is infused with layers of pattern and meaning drawn from the natural world and science, from multicultural and contemporary sources, and from the Goddess tradition.
We have 24 hours left and ~$1k left till our 4th stretch goal! Click below to read more from our Maia Kobabe & Alexandra Genetti interview, and don’t forget to pledge to support LGBTQIA creators and comics!
What originally drew you to tarot?
When I was about four years old my neighbor, Alexandra Genetti (who co-wrote "The Sun" with me) was in the middle of painting her own Tarot deck. I used to sit and watch her paint, and experiencing these cards as they came to life was one of my very earliest artistic influences. Since then I have discovered many other decks and delighted in the way different artists interpret and invoke the rich layers of symbols. I love how each deck offers a glimpse into the artist's own inner world.
Why did you choose this card to tell a story about it?
Alexandra and I chose The Sun card because it is linked with a winter solstice/new years ritual we both participate in every year. This ritual is very important to me as one of the few annual ceremonies I have been a part of for as long as I can remember.
How do you and your identity relate to the medium of tarot as a whole?
I have always used the Tarot primarily as a tool to look inside myself. When receiving a card in a reading I take it as a reminder to interrogate my own intentions, doubts, strengths, bias, and wishes. Though I have known about the Tarot since I was very young, I feel that I won't have introduced myself fully to each card until I have completed painting my own deck.

TABULA IDEM has broken $40,000 with 48 hours to go!
You read that right; this queer tarot comic anthology broke $40k with less than two days left! We’re nearly at the end and closer towards our color insert stretch goal- so be sure to back now to ensure you grab a physical copy and a Kickstarter exclusive Major Arcana deck! For now, let’s check out some tidbits about The Moon from our team @aegiskitty and Jenn St-Onge!
XVIII - THE MOON
Zodiacal Ruler of Pisces
Archaic Title - "The Ruler of the Flux and Reflux"
An at-times spooky card, The Moon appears after The Star to speak to us to "work by the light of the moon." We have been inspired and commissioned by our newfound hope and confidence, and The Moon is a card of "duty before pleasure," a gatekeeper to the success we will reach in The Sun after we do what we must and endure the night.

TABULA IDEM ends on Tuesday May 2nd at 12 PM PDT with $1.5k till stretch goal #3!
We’re coming to the end, folks! Want to make sure you get a copy of TABULA IDEM and a Kickstarter exclusive deck? Make sure you pledge now to reserve your copies; this is the only guaranteed run for now for you to pick up a physical version! We won’t be reprinting the decks until a good while down the road, so make sure you grab one now! We’re also coming up on our third stretch goal, which will feature color inserts for all 22 card pages!
Also: remember we do still have two commission slots open for @vixiebee (creator of our Swords postcard) and @kaixju (cover artist team), which will get you all of the rewards of the COMPENDIUM COLLECTION tier and some sweet physical custom artwork! For now, let’s take a look at our Artist Feature for a rather radiant card with @renareyart.
XVII - THE STAR
Zodiacal Ruler of Aquarius
Archaic Title - "The Daughter of the Radiant Firmament"
After we've weathered and come out of the turbulence of The Devil and The Tower, The Star is waiting for us at the end to help inspire, to breathe confidence in ourselves from that spark of renewed interest. It is a beacon, a point of reference for us to launch a creative or self-confidence spur after we have been in the darkness of a mental or emotional drought.

What originally drew you to tarot?
In elementary school, my friends and I would pretend to be witches. The Rider Deck was always floating around our bags, along with our wands (sticks), and magic herbs (flowers, grass, and tiny pinecones in a pouch). I was mainly drawn in by the seemingly simple designs and the occulty feel of the deck.
Why did you choose this card to tell a story about it?
I chose to depict The Star because of how it represents the possibilities of the future. It can represent a turning point in one's life, but one that isn't tied down to fate. The card uses the symbolism of faraway stars to show the possible outcomes one's choices result in. One can either chose to work towards one of those points of light, and eventually reach it, or they can choose to not work towards that light. That future will stay far and unattainable to them until they go for it. The idea that one had to choose to do something and continue doing it to reach a goal really stuck out to me, and I wanted to create a story where that choice to continue going is central.
How do you and your identity relate to the medium of tarot as a whole?
I feel that I specifically relate to the Major Arcana when it's viewed as The Fool's journey. As an artist and storyteller, each project feels like that journey. I learn new things and meet new people with each story. It's not the exact same process each time though. My path with each project, as in life, is always changing. Also the fact that The Fool also has highs and lows on their journey gives me comfort when my life is all over the place!

SECOND STRETCH GOAL BROKEN WITH 4 DAYS LEFT!
THANK YOU FOR HELPING OUR ARTISTS HAVE BONUSES ONTO THEIR BASE PAYS! We can’t thank you enough for all your pledges and support, and it’s great to not only have the Kickstarter funded, but now also two out of five stretch goals. How many can we break with the rest of our time on the clock?
Our next stretch goal at $41,000 will include color inserts for the book for all 22 cards!
Our Kickstarter ends on Tuesday May 2nd 12PM PDT, so remember to pledge and pre-order a book while there’s still time! For now, let’s take a look at The Tower by Steve Foxe and & Andrew Drilon.
XVI - THE TOWER
Planetary Ruler of Mars
Archaic Title - "Lord of the Hosts of the Mighty"
An age-old guard tower typically rendered being destroyed with its denizens razed to the ground below, The Tower is a signal for dramatic, sometimes violent change in our lives, to abandon the old and begin anew. Specifically, it is the process of dismantling the former, the construction site of warped earth and crashes of destruction and renovation to make way for which will be, eventually, a shining new building in its place.

Andrew Drilon hails from the Philippines, where he recently won the National Book Award for his first book, Kare-Kare Komiks. His works have appeared in various publications including Dark Horse Presents, Top Shelf 2.0 and Playboy.
Click below to read more of our interview, and don’t forget to support and pledge for LGBTQIA+ tarot comics and to support the artists!
What originally drew you to tarot?
Steve: Honestly, my first encounter with the concept of "magical cards" (to speak as broadly as possible) came through CARDCAPTOR SAKURA. I'm a natural skeptic in all things belief-based, but I'm also fascinated by the ways stories crop up around things like zodiac signs and tarot cards, and the ways these items and concepts can serve as conduits to spiritual thinking.
Why did you choose this card to tell a story about it?
Steve: Andrew and I chose The Tower for two reasons: we thought Death and The Lovers would have too much competition (hah!), and we knew The Tower to be an inherently dramatic card with a lot of potential for conflict and action. It was also a fun challenge to make The Tower a physical part of the story but not a character in the traditional sense.
How do you and your identity relate to the medium of tarot as a whole?
Steve: My identity as a cis gay male is pretty immutable, so it's less that I relate to the medium of tarot than that I appreciate it and its many possibilities for interpretation. If anything, it's fascinating to me as a storyteller--it's like a constant source of improvisation, a kaleidoscope of interpretations, each valid, each different. Anyone entrenched in the world of stories has to appreciate that!

We’re less than $300 from the 1st Artist Bonus stretch goal!
At the time of posting, we’re currently at ~$38.8k away from our Artist Bonus and second stretch goal! With a few more pledges at ETERNAL EYES or at MIGHTY MAGUS, we can easily break this goal into our last week. Remember all what you can get, even at the $35 MIGHTY MAGUS level:
Tarot Deck (gained with our first stretch goal!)
Physical Copy of TABULA IDEM
Bookplate
Digital PDF
Digital Wallpaper Pack
Your name on the Thank you Pages!
For now, however, let’s take a look at a rather devilish card with contributor team @artofmenellaos & H Pueyo!
XV - THE DEVIL
Zodiacal Ruler of Capricorn
Archaic Title - "The Lord of the Gates of Matter"
An intimidating card tied with indulgence of habit and of sexual promiscuity, The Devil is an archetype that can either forbode overcoming personal blocks, or encourage to allow yourself to mire in your circumstance. Sometimes, we must delight in the luck we're given whether it be good or bad, and in your darkest times, you must remain a light to those around you.

TABULA IDEM has less than $400 to go until $39k!
Happy Wednesday! ICYMI: We’re into our final week, with the Kickstarter ending on Tuesday May 2nd at 12 PM PDT, upcoming on our first Artist Bonus stretch goal! Wanna make sure you grab a physical copy and bump up our stretch goals? No time like the present: let’s bring it on home with a strong finish! For here, however, let’s catch up with a little Temperance with Capp and @linkeepsitreal!
XIV - TEMPERANCE
Zodiacal Ruler of Sagittarius
Archaic Title - "The Bringer Forth of Life"
A figure after Death and a respite before The Devil, Temperance is a card all about blending different elements and aspects in our lives into a coherent, working matter. Whether it be work vs free time, extroversion vs introspection, Temperance encourages us to find a working solvent between opposing forces. Traditionally a patron saint for alchemists and scientists, this figure is often shown with vessels combining water into fire or some other alchemical reaction.

TABULA IDEM has less than $1k to raise for our second stretch goal!
We’re formally entering our final week; the Kickstarter ends Tuesday May 2nd, 12PM PDT! We’ve unlocked one stretch goal, but can’t get to the other ones without your help; our next goal of $39k will get our artists a $50 bonus. After that? Color insert pages for the tarot card artwork, another artist bonus, and then super fancy packaging for all tarot decks! For now, however, let’s join artist gray Dupe Folie for an aside about Death.
DEATH
Zodiacal Ruler of Scorpio
Archaic Title - "The Child of the Great Transformers"
An at-times intimidating card that comes between The Hanged One and Temperance, Death is often a marker that we must ultimately surrender something in order to gain another thing, that we must return to the earth that we once came from to grow new seeds. While Death is a frightening thing, we must accept it as a part of the universe, and that the end can also be the start of a new beginning.

Folie is an intersex lesbian trying to combine a strong interest in sequential art and a natural knack for pseudo-fictional prose into the form of comics. Their stories focus on topics they feel are largely neglected in media. With furries.

TABULA IDEM has about ~$1.5k away from its second stretch goal!
While our tarot decks have been unlocked for tiers starting at and above $35, our stretch goal for Artist Bonuses is within reach! At $39k, the base payment for creative teams increases by $50 (with the $43k mark increasing it to $100), so let’s support them as much as we can! We’re entering our final week, so there’s no time like the present to pledge! For now, let’s take a look at The Hanged One by Alain Helmers!
XII - THE HANGED ONE
Elemental Ruler of Water
Archaic Title - "The Spirit of the Mighty Tides"
At times referred to as "a dying god," The Hanged One is a metaphor for old ways passing and encourages new ideas. A patron card of flipped perspectives and lateral thoughts, it is a signal that sometimes we need to admit problem solving must come from a change in the way we think about things or situations before changing the external.

TABULA IDEM has broken its first stretch goals for Kickstarter-exclusive tarot decks!
Happy Sunday and 700 backers everyone! If you couldn't tell by our update title, we've broken our first stretch goal, which means TAROT DECKS FOR EVERYONE WHO PLEDGES AT OR ABOVE "MIGHTY MAGUS" (this also includes you early birds)!
To guarantee you get yourself a deck, it'll be a simple yes/no question on your backer survey once the Kickstarter ends! Get excited, the cards are coming to life as an exclusive (for now, at least) alongside our book, and we can't thank you enough for helping us get this far.
Need even more tarot cards in your life? Add on an extra $15 to your pledge per deck if you need multiple packs! Great for yourself, a friend, gift, or just for backup.
With a little over 8 days to go, we still have plenty of stretch goals to unlock, so help us get to $39k to help give our contributors a nice bonus for all their hard work! Thank you again, and we look forward to seeing what the future has in store! For now, let’s take a look at another Artist Feature from @hkasof about the Wheel of Fortune.
X - WHEEL OF FORTUNE
Planetary Ruler of Jupiter
Archaic Title - "The Lord of the Forces of Life"
At the midway point of the Major Arcana, the Wheel of Fortune is the crux of time, that all time must march forward and we go "forward to progress". If The Chariot is violent, driven change, then the Wheel is the tire that carries that car down the road; fortune favors the brave, and we must be willing to see where that wheel rolls.
HALEY/IVAN KASOF

What originally drew you to tarot?
I've been practicing it for four years now with the golden tarot! Aside from that, tarot is just really fascinating to me, I love seeing different interpretations of the cards and how other people use them.
Why did you choose this card to tell a story about it?
Wheel of Fortune is a card that's always appeared to me during stressful times. It's a good reminder that the bad can only last so long before the good comes around again, it felt natural to create a story based around it. I like to see characters who finally realize they do have better things waiting for them in the future.
How do you and your identity relate to the medium of tarot as a whole?
It's hard to explain, but I feel very connected to it! I'm not always the best with words, but like tarot I'm able to get my words across better when I can tell them with pictures.

TABULA IDEM has less than $300 until the tarot deck stretch goal!
Hope everyone’s Saturday went well! With 9 days to go on the campaign clock and teetering closer towards $36,000, we need just a few more pledges that will qualify nearly 3/4 of our backers for complimentary tarot decks depending on their survey answers! But for now, let’s take a look at one of our Artist Features with The Hermit by contributor Andi Santagata.
IX - THE HERMIT
Zodiacal Ruler of Virgo
Archaic Title - "The Magus of the Eternal"
After the balance from Adjustment, The Hermit is the withdrawal, the solace gained from introspection and a need for individuality. A patron card for introverts, this card offers soul searching by promoting the need to occasionally recluse from the world and heal. Traditionally shown with a light of some sort, this symbolizes our need to be a "beacon" to others and an inspiration, solidified by ourselves to head into the future.

What originally drew you to tarot?
I've been obsessed with the occult and magic (both with a C and a K) since I was a little kid, and, when I was 7 or 8, I begged my parents to get me a set of Fairy Ring tarot cards because I loved the art on them so much. I'm sure the Fairy tarot wreaked more unpredictability on my life at the time than I expected, but it was a gateway to collecting and studying all kinds of Rider-Waite-Smith tarot decks through the years!
Why did you choose this card to tell a story about it?
I have a special soft spot for The Hermit: As a cartoonist, and as kind of a recluse, I do my best thinking and growing when I'm on my own. I mean, I also love socializing - as much as the next cartoonist, anyway - but I really value the time I get to spend on my own. It frees you up to make decisions and gain a kind of introspection free of judgement from other people. I've also not always been okay with being on my own or just hanging out with myself, so my newfound and somewhat tenuous joy at being alone with myself still feels novel and fun. Who knows how long that'll last?!
How do you and your identity relate to the medium of tarot as a whole?
I like that tarot reflects aspects of yourself in a non-gendered way! As a trans person, thinking of yourself in terms like "The Star" or "The Fool" is a super freeing experience compared to the commonly gendered terms we often encounter in daily life. Of course, that's not to say that the traditional tarot doesn't have its soft spots when it comes to gender - the common image of The Lovers always being a heterosexual cis couple, or the frequent usage of the court cards in minor arcana as being gendered - but that's what's so exciting about working on Tabula Idem, I think - real representation!

TABULA IDEM is closing in on its first stretch goal!
Happy Friday everyone! We’ve passed $34k and have about $1.4k until our first goal of printing our tarot decks, eligible as a complimentary add-on to any tier at or above “MIGHTY MAGUS!” For here, let’s go ahead and get a closer look at our contributors for Adjustment (also known as Justice) with @leppu!
VIII - ADJUSTMENT
Zodiacal Ruler of Libra
Archaic Title - "The Ruler of the Balance"
Alternately known as “Justice,” Adjustment is the harmonious balance of lawfulness and physical realm aspects of our lives, finding a proper compromise between chaos and order. At times, it can be logic over emotion, and even law over heart, but the self must be balanced in all areas of life, even in work and personal relationships to others. It's often the ruling that comes before the introspection of The Hermit, and the "step back" and assessment after The Chariot's charge forward.

Why did you choose this card to tell a story about it?
Adjustment is about moving towards balance, which I struggle in real life a lot! So I wanted to take a humorous take on being on an unbalanced scale.
How do you and your identity relate to the medium of tarot as a whole?
My identity goes hand to hand with visuals and symbolism, which are both found in tarot!
