STRANGE PIE LADY.

‘It’s just pie, stop bein’ so dramatic.’ Says the one who rolls her eyes, that was dramatic. ‘I suppose no one really. Someone MORE important, like a noble or somethin’. You just got in the way.’ Not exactly a reasonable answer, ‘— right?’
╳ "I am not--” Forget it. Not like the girl was going to listen to his protests anyway. “I’ll admit, throwing pies at nobles does sound like an...interesting hobby.” Hawke hated nobles, & his years spent in hightown had had only managed to fuel that hatred.

FENRIS.
“I see. I regret hearing that. You did the best you could in your situation. I doubt anyone of us could’ve done better.” He offered whatever concelation he could; although, Fenris lacked his own siblings. Or family for that matter. Still, he liked to think he would have done anything for them to survive, just as Hawke did.. even if his brother was a tit.
Well. Hawke answered that quick - quicker than he was expecting. He also was very pleased with his answer. “I won’t deny you’ve put a few more problems on my plate, while removing others as well. It’s an even trade.” His lips curled in a small smirk. “I never thought a mage capable as you, but, I am pleased to be proved wrong.”
╳ The other’s comforting words did manage to lighten Hawke’s spirits, even if only for a while. The situation with Carver had been one he thought about often grieved about often. Though to hear someone he held dearly reassure him... it meant a lot. Brown eyes glancing up from the floor, his smile returned ( along with a faint flush to his cheeks that was obviously due to the cold ). "Thank you, Fenris. I hope I don’t let you down.”

NEIL.
Neil waved him off. “I’ve got plenty enough as it is. Besides, you’re the hero in Varric’s stories -not me,” he grinned. He didn’t mind that at all. Being the center of attention was never high on Neil’s wish-list. “Go on. Go have fun kicking ass and taking names.”
╳ “Oh, but it’ll be no fun without you. C’mon.” Cue the poorly-made puppy dog eyes. “Surely my company can’t be that terrible.” He was running out of ideas, and quickly. Sadly, persuasion wasn’t his strong-suit.

ANDERS.

Anders felt himself relax, allowing his mind to wander from the mages’ plight. It was a moment he needed, but he would argue that point if anyone mentioned it. He always focused on what was most important. He simply forgot to enjoy life at the same time.
“I don’t even want to think about how she would react to my lute playing. I’m sure you’re better than I am at least.” He gave him a reassuring smile. It was a skill he never bothered to improve, but it seemed Hawke was trying. That was good.
Slight surprise came over him, “Most people stare and never bother to ask. The feathers are comfortable and unique. I happen to like standing out from the crowd. How many people do you see going around wearing feathers?”
╳ “Doubtful. The dog was whining at my feet for me to stop last I played." The memory brought on a hearty laugh as Hawke withdrew his hand, once again returning his attention to the meal. “Not many, I admit. They suit you, somehow. --And before you say anything: I mean that as a compliment."
#( pointless hc that hawke is allergic to said feathers )#( sorry for the short length: if you need me to add more just say the word! )#scarredredemption#&&. And know to your bones that you won’t come out of this whole.

STRANGER.
The child looks up and scowl.
~I can fight.~ He points out, his blue eyes flying to the staff. A fleeting smile passes over the little boy’s lips.

~Where are they?~ He adds, trying without much success to look past Garret.
╳ Surely the kid was only joki-- oh. Sudden realisation over, Hawke regrettably nods: there were most likely more enemies than he could handle alone, even with healing spells at the ready. “Five up ahead, behind the pillar. Reinforcements joining from the left.”

╳ The bitter irony of mages being kept in a literal prison made the Ferelden’s stomach churn. He'd already spotted three tranquil mages, & overheard templars jesting about the best way to 'put those robes in their place'. A sudden voice clearly startled the man, his head quickly whipping around only to find another mage standing before him. Recognising that it was not a templar coming for his throat, he visibly relaxed. “Ah...that obvious?” Exhaling a nervous laugh, he glanced back up at the looming statues above them.

The Gallows. Karl hated the Gallows, but at the very least, it was being able to grab a fraction of fresh air – something that wasn’t normally permitted, least where he came from. Of course, when he saw an apostate [he knew a staff from a spear; it wasn’t a new trick] waltzing around as though oblivious to the danger– he had to wonder if the mage was begging to be caught. Namely, the bearded mage before him. He looked foreign.. but he didn’t want to assume.
“New to Kirkwall, friend?”

╳ “Mm...” Hawke’s mind wandered, his free hand reaching up to brush against his chin. “You know, Orana has started teaching me how to play the lute. She’s a decent teacher, says i’m horrible at it, though. But i’m improving...slowly.” He paused, now realizing his hand had continued to linger on the other’s shoulder. A thumb gently rubbed over one of the many worn feathers stitched along the healer’s robes. “--Is there a reason you insist on using feathers to decorate your clothing?"
There was a small smile upon his lips at the reassurance. Most people didn’t bother letting him know they truly cared.
“I suppose you’re right. I have a tendency to overthink the situation more often than I should.” Anders was grateful to have someone looking out for him, ensuring he did what he normally pushed aside. He couldn’t afford to starve or pass out on the clinic’s floor. That wouldn’t do anyone any good.
“Why don’t we discuss something else?” Hawke was relatively talented with distractions. That would be needed for both of them now. They needed a topic less serious over a meal. That was his mistake.

╳ “Anders...” He was unsure of what to say, as there was not much Hawke could offer in terms of comfort. Anders spoke the truth: the mage underground was suffering greatly & Meredith had more power than ever. Templars ruthlessly hunted the escaped mages, and Garrett was beggining to hear whispers of more dead & tranquil with each passing day. “You know our plight means as much to me as it does to you, but overthinking and starving yourself isn't going to help. What would Darktown do without their talented healer?” A sad smile faltered out of concern, as he cautiously stretched a hand out to place on the other’s shoulder.
“I suppose what I’m always thinking about. What else can I do to help the mages? The Templars have started paying more attention to smaller details. It won’t be long before we’re in more trouble, if that’s even possible.” He was rambling. That was the only thing that gave him pause. He looked down and started picking at the food again, hoping the conversation hadn’t become too awkward.

╳ “Maybe it’s a bit of both.” Grinning despite the circumstances, Hawke swung his legs off the cot he had been laying on, & now sat facing the healer. “Oh? Am I just a patient to you? And here I was thinking we were friends.” Admittedly, he did look forward to visiting the other mage, but rarely had time to spare. Lately it seemed like every citizen of the city needed him.

“Some days I wonder if you do it because you’re a junkie oryou need to keep finding excuses to come down here…” A pause, but then thehealer was quick to shake his head rather rapidly. “Not—that it’s a bad thing, but something a little less self destructive would do you a lot better.” It wasan attempt at trying to lighten up the mood. For some reason he felt like Hawkemight need it. “You don’t really have to, Garrett. I’m just being a bit of aworrier for one of my more constant patients, is all.”

╳ “And let you miss out on all the fun? Perish the thought.” Garrett grinned, fully knowing what the other was up to. “If you stay in all day, you’ll never have any stories to tell. Or...stories for Varric to tell, I suppose.”
@tactfxl
“That sounds like a great idea, but I think I have a better one. You go deal with the bandits and I’ll stay home and keep Bodhann and Sandal company. You don’t need the extra help, and I’d just get in the way.” And he could sleep in just a little longer today, but Garrett didn’t need to know that.

╳ “Just my luck, huh.” The mage let out an irritated groan, hands still attempting to wipe away all evidence of the ...incident. “You could at least tell me who it was for.”

‘Yeah, you’re plenty special! But, I didn’t mean for that pie to end up on you.’ While it was not TECHNICALLY for him, it was at least still amusing. The rogue is trying to hide that grin that is forming, ‘…it was for someone else & you just,’ A snicker formed into a suden outburst of laughter, ‘…not my fault!’
