I carefully turn to my side as I hug my stomach, feeling sick to my gut. I feel like I’m burning up, my throat feels dry and my head won’t stop thumping as my ears slightly ring. I’ve never felt this nauseous in my life. Carefully squinting my eyes open, I look at my surroundings.

This. Is. Not. My. Room.

I quickly jolted up from the bed, trying to recollect my memories. No way that could’ve happened. I look around the room that appears to be just a regular room that has been decorated with pretty vintage furniture. I look for an exit, but I can’t seem to find any windows, only one door. I can’t bring myself to open the door, the thought of seeing him again has me shivering.

I try to slow down my breathing but it’s no use, that psycho is a murderer and he could easily kill me too. I knew he was too good to be true. “Damn it” I whispered, feeling stupid for how gullible I was.

Unable to stand up longer due to dizziness, I sit on the edge of the bed. The ringing in my ears thankfully stopped, but the headache and nausea kept lingering.

After a year he claimed he had gotten everything sorted out, but no one believed him until one day he showed up at your grandparent’s house with a bunch of gifts.

The same day, he treated you to a nice day at the carnival. He brought you all the tasty sweets, went on all the rides with you, and won you a plushy that became your childhood favorite toy.

For a moment, you forget all the pain from seeing your father and mother fighting for years, seeing mysterious cuts and bruises on his body, and seeing your dad get drunk to the point where he would pass out.

It had been a while since you felt happy and hearing your father laugh and smile, it made you feel like everything was fine now.
