Hey Jellymom, I was wondering, cause it would probably be adorable, how do the baby trio go about nicknaming their pokemon~?
I bet they have really differing nicknaming styles, so much that Frisk and Chara at least demand the others change the names of Pokémon before trading them or the traded ‘mon is gonna seem totally out of place
Frisk totally gives them cutesy and often kind of weird nicknames, just like you would with people you know well, and always in lowercase letters because Aesthetic(tm). They take the word “nickname” at face value, so names are often shortened, diminuitive versions of the ‘mon’s species name, sometimes with added description. Their Hoppip is called “pretty pips.” Their Woobat is called “kissy.” Frisk loves their Pokémon very much.
Chara takes the whole nickname thing to mean “baptize this one creature among many with a unique name of its own”, and they always try to find a strong and honorable name for their new companion, especially if it’s a ‘mon they really like. Their Banette is called “Veanga.” Their Skitty is called “Silkit.” Legendaries always get really long names with multiple meanings (except for “Nebbatron.” They panicked.)
... and of course, Asriel can never really come up with anything that’s not terribly obvious. It’s genetic. The others often end up fighting over who can come up with something for him, so he often just, let’s the Pokémon keep its species name. He did name his Flabébé, though - it’s called “Bloom.”
Asriel usually keeps whatever nicknames Frisk and Chara come up with when trading with them. Both Frisk and Chara are very adamant about the others changing the names before trading. Which is especially annoying for Chara, who chooses names so carefully.
It’s a little frustrating to have to change your Froslass’ name from “Iciclyna” to “snowbeb”
