Shane might be an intense and opinionated son-of-a-bitch who likes to have total command over his surroundings, but his morals are always aligned with the betterment and safekeeping of those cares for. He strives to do the good/right thing (least, what he believes to be good and right), even if getting there causes him to make the tough decisions, the questionable choices. He wouldn't join a group like the Saviors. He could never participate in their ways of survival. Such masochism isn't part of his code. If Shane were to ever come into contact with a person like Negan, for example, it would be a bloodbath. Men like that are men that Shane would instantly despise.
