you'll have to pry out any information about his past from his cold dead hands !!! but the short story goes: born at an offshore fishing island community in the pacific northwest, raised by a devout catholic mother who had no recollection of his father. he was an altar boy. he was a drummer for a garage band that could never make it big. there wasn't much room for anything in the island— not from desire, not for dreams. the future was set in stone for everyone: turned sixteen and started getting up at dawn, jumped into a fishing trawler and started helping his mother put food on the table. he didn't have much, but it was ingrained in him to be grateful of what he had anyway. a vague sense of longing for something, but he could never quite figure it out. years and years gone by, he started drinking, not much else to do. he functioned well-enough. until an devastating oil spill. livelihoods lost and a sense of despair and hopelessness overhanging the island. an argument about the settlement. friends getting into a bar fight against the suits. a protective instinct that kicked in. blackout. eyes opened and he was bleeding everywhere, but his hands were covered in blood too. four years gone. he came out after serving time with nothing. he could return home, but there was nothing left for him there either. just shame. just fear and guilt. no purpose. trembling. disassembled. until he hears a calling in his veins and surrenders to it.
