It's not unheard of that a Patronus will match a wix's Animagus form, if they happen to be such, and Sirius is no exception. His corporeal Patronus takes the form of a dog, matching that of his Animagus counterpart: a bear-like black German Shepherd. German Shepherds are known for being intelligent, loyal, and fiercely over-protective. Any close friend of his would attest to the fact that Sirius exemplifies those qualities. He is a bright wix, and he would do anything for those that he cares about, for those he deems his people.

But while Sirius is brilliant with spellwork, he has, as of late, been having difficulty casting a full, corporeal Patronus. It’s not for lacking skill - if it were, then there would be no problem - but rather the memory is where the trouble lies.

All of Sirius’ happiest memories involve the Marauders - particularly James Potter. When James had disappeared, the memories had been tainted and twisted into something painful. Sirius lost his ability to produce a full Patronus. James returned, but Sirius’ Patronus did not. The memories of the Marauders he used to use are no longer happy, given his recent falling out with Remus, and memories of just him and James are littered with worry of loss again.

Frustration with his inability to produce a corporeal Patronus may be a contributing factor, too, but Sirius has decided that he just...doesn’t care. Casting a full Patronus is the least of his worries. He has decided to focus his time and energy on other types of magic, more practical and likely to aid in ending the war than what is, to him, nothing more than an unreliable charm.
