“It’s getting more difficult for me to be happy nowadays,” Delia confessed in a low tone, partly hoping Ilyas did not overhear her. She did not expect to meet up with him again in church. None of them belonged there, at least she did not think so. She had a job of an exotic dancer that people judged, but she needed it because there was an incredible amount of debt left by her father.

“I don’t want to drink,” she added. “My father left us due to that very ailment, it affects me greatly when I smell alcohol on people’s breaths, but I do my best to push past it.” She was silent then, looking at the pew and sighing. It’s been a while since she visited her past, but figured it’s because she was in a holy place and that is why she felt her guard down. 

“I know alcohol cannot bring me any happiness, that is for sure.”
