It had all happened in blur. They'd almost had him, then Sherlock had heard the thunk of John being hit, his body collapsing to the ground and all other thoughts had vanished. In his lifetime he can count on one hand the amount of people who've tolerated him to the point where they actually like him. Those friendships mean more to him than he can ever explain. As a result, when those people are put in danger it causes a panic to rise up in the detective that's unlike anything he's ever experienced. He's not a fan of it, meaning that he tries his best to consistently keep them safe. However, life has learned Sherlock, teaching him that he cannot feasibly be all places at once. He couldn't stop John from getting hit.
"Don't get used to it? Why not? Perhaps I'm rather enjoying my role as your nurse." His lips lift into a faintly teasing smile, hand swatting as John's as he moves it back to the scarf. "Don't touch it. Paramedics will be here in a moment." His words are airy, as if he doesn't care, but the truth is, he feels guilty. He shouldn't have taken on the case without delving deeper first. He'd dragged John in without performing his due diligence. "Don't worry, I have a plan to distract him. He hasn't been sleeping properly lately so I'm going to annoy him into leaving us alone. He'll be too world weary from my incessant questioning to even think about lecturing you." A grin forms as he settles back onto his haunches, watching John. "How is your eyesight? Blurry or clear? Do you have any other symptoms aside from the headache?"
