High-Adventure, Clean Reads for Middle Grade Guys
High-Adventure, Clean Reads for Middle Grade Guys
Tim Shoemaker somehow drew a crowd of male middle graders to a private book signing by dozens of authors attending a writing conference in 2018. As an attendee, I’d bought a few books and was cruising that huge auditorium seeking the authors to sign them when my eyes landed on Tim, who’d taught one of my afternoon classes. With a genuine smile on his face, he sat at a table signing his books and…

Ohio State’s spring game is essentially 2-hand touch, and everyone’s confused
Wut.
Safety’s pretty paramount in spring games, and literally the worst thing is to have a player get hurt during a glorified scrimmage. But football’s an inherently violent game and there will always be risk. Ohio State’s taken pretty much all the risk out of their game today however.
Here’s what it looks like, and it should be noted that they are going full speed but just not taking anyone to the ground.
This could be a response to what happened at Mississippi State last week, where a player got hurt after a pretty huge hit and the game had to be cancelled.
It’s pretty common for QBs to not be live in spring games or regular practices for that matter. But to have an entire 11-on-11 game of glorified two-hand touch is quite unorthodox.
There’s some consternation here because the Buckeyes didn’t announce this. They just up and did it.
They aren't tackling in the Ohio State spring game, and so far, we are confused.

No tackling at the Ohio State spring game but don’t worry, concessions are still full price.

Ohio State apparently paying tribute to its 2013 defense with no live tackling at today’s spring game.

Ohio State charged money for a game of two-hand touch.

Tickets were $5, and demand was such that people were scalping them. But, nevertheless at least there’s something like football going on and we can all be thankful for that.

Fans in Columbus, Ohio, saw blank TV screens at the end of UNC-Kentucky due to weather
In the Elite Eight of the 2017 NCAA Tournament on Sunday, the No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels beat the No. 2 Kentucky Wildcats, 75-73, in absolutely thrilling fashion. UNC’s Luke Maye hit a jump shot in the final seconds to get the victory.
Unfortunately for certain basketball fans in the Columbus, Ohio, television market, the CBS local news station in the area cut into the game’s feed for a breaking news alert for severe weather in the area. But instead of seeing a news crew, fans were left watching a blank screen in place of Maye’s amazing game-winner.

.@10TV sooooo who the hell won the basketball game? pic.twitter.com/qXP9tkOMrV

This is so incredibly unfortunate, and I can’t even imagine how upset viewers were, especially after seeing what they missed afterwards. And it’d be one thing for the viewers to be interrupted by an actual news break about the weather, but instead they saw just a big ol’ blank screen.
Hopefully the local news station issues some sort of apology on this one.
