unsurprisingly, they had never spoken about eddie's sex life, or anything explicitly sexual before. she chalked it up to his old fashioned upbringing, figuring he was probably a bit of a prude, so there was no reason to try and bring it up just to be shot down. that didn't mean she wasn't curious, though, especially as her attraction to him seemed to intensify by the day. she wondered what his sexual history was like, how his tastes had evolved over the years, or how long it had been since he'd last indulged. for someone so chaste when it came to feeding, she could only imagine how reserved he must've been regarding sex in his former life. had he died (and, subsequently, been reborn again) a virgin? was he just as awkward when it came to fucking as he was about everything else? devyn just couldn't imagine him possessing any sort of sexual prowess... he must've had some time to explore, though, what with how long he'd been alive. despite all the time they'd spent getting to know each other thus far, there were still so many unknowns when it came to eddie, and she was eager to finally get the answers to what questions had been plaguing her for ages now. so far he'd allowed her to drive the action forward, falling prey to her advances though they both knew he could turn the tables at any moment if he really wanted to. even if she'd been at her full strength, she'd be no match for that of a vampire, but he was merely following her lead and playing into the dominance she was trying to exhibit, up until she found herself unable to keep up the act and had no choice but to beg him to take over. for a moment she was left helplessly perched atop him, wide, desperate eyes blinking down at him to continue her plea, and then he finally offered her the relief of guiding her to roll over and lay back, following her shift in position until he ended up on top of her just like she'd asked. "thank you," she breathed, her voice soft but heavy with relief, arms immediately winding around him to hold him close with what little strength she still possessed. her chin lifted as his mouth neared her punctured neck once again, subtly offering herself to him in whatever way he wished to consume her, a shuddered sigh rumbling in her chest when she felt the smooth hardness of his fangs just barely brush against her flesh. rather than go back for seconds, he continued on his path towards her chest, one of her hands coming to tangle in his hair in the hopes of keeping some control over his actions. he was asking her to spell it out for him, laying her desires out in the open so there was no room for interpretation, as if it wasn't already the most obvious thing in the world. "fuck me," she whined, already beginning to squirm. "now. please, eddie, don't make me wait..." any other time, devyn would've enjoyed as much foreplay as her body could stand, able to tease and play for seemingly hours on end, but she was already so desperate, she didn't know how much more she could take. if she had the energy, she would've ripped both their clothes off and taken him inside her without any assistance needed, but she was too weak to do much else but lay there and whine as she writhed beneath him, trying to press herself closer as she tugged on his hair.
when it came to intimacy, eddie was far more experienced than someone might expect upon taking their first glance at him. he'd been alive for a long time and while he valued an emotional connection above all, he'd had decades to figure out exactly what he liked and above all else, it was pleasing people. he learned how to read the various partners he'd had and figure out what it was they wanted without them needing to ask. like a predator preparing to pounce on their prey, eddie had become acutely tuned into reading body language, aided additionally by his heightened senses which helped him get better insight into everything that wasn't being said. it wasn't as though devyn was trying to keep any secrets from him, she had made it clear what she wanted and for a moment there was little he could do but let her take that momentary burst of energy to exert her control. her heartbeat had picked up the pace again and thumped furiously, her body had finally caught up with her brain and realised they weren't about to die and needed to exert that relief in some way, in devyn's case, through arousal. he could smell it in the air, stronger than it'd ever been before, mixing with the scent of the blood that covered the both of them. he'd tried to be good, as gentlemanly as possible despite knowing how devyn felt, or at least how her body felt about him but he couldn't ignore it any longer, she needed something from him and the least he could do was give it without prodding her with more questions. he had to trust that she knew what he wanted, that she wouldn't ask otherwise, maybe it was the blood loss talking but he'd been able to smell how turned on just hearing about him drinking her blood had made her so it was more likely to have already been on her mind. maybe that was why he was so insistent, that despite her confidence she needed an excuse to get him in the way she wanted. after huffing out another soft groan as devyn's hips rolled down against his, eddie took a moment to let himself pretend that he was at her mercy, like the weight of her was of any consequence or like her hands pinning his down to the bed could actually keep him from being able to touch her. there were times when he yearned for that ability to give in, to allow someone else complete control over him but it was hard to pretend after everything he had done, the fantasy was impossible to indulge in but thankfully, he'd found great enjoyment and pleasure in fulfilling his partner's desires. it took eddie a moment to focus his gaze once she pulled back but once he finally settled on her look of desperation, exhausted and bloody yet still so beautiful, there was no longer any option than to give her everything that she asked for. before she could plead anymore, eddie wrapped an arm around her waist and carefully rolled her off from him, moving in tandem so that when her back met the softness of the mattress, he was positioned on top of her, knees on either side of her body but folded forward so that their chests remained pressed together. after gently shushing her, eddie moved back to the wounds on her neck, still gently weeping her precious blood. his fangs grazed her skin but he didn't bite down, his hunger was for something different and instead, he slowly drew his mouth down her body, leaving smears of blood as he kissed down her neck and across her collarbones. "tell me what you want." he mumbled against the curve of her breast, the sharpness of his fang catching briefly against the fabric of her bra as he lingered in a momentary pause. it was a good way of testing how conscious she was but more than that, he just wanted to hear her confess.

for a so-called monster, eddie was remarkably composed. he seemed to be even more concerned with morality than normal humans were, perhaps due to his guilt revolving around what he had to do in order to survive, but it wasn't his fault. it wasn't like he'd asked to become a creature of the night, only able to sustain himself on the blood of others. no matter what he'd done in order to stay alive, devyn would always have sympathy for him and his plight, as it harkened back to her memory of her father. he, too, was a victim of circumstance, born with some misguided delusion as to his duty to the world, truly believing he had the power to save toxic men from themselves by means of obscene violence, and devyn had been influenced to follow in his footsteps. her offer of consensual bloodletting seemed to bring her full circle, bringing her back to that fateful night she'd inadvertently gotten her father locked up for life, and now she was finally able to repay that debt. blood for blood, a life for a life— only, she'd been spared, allowed to live another day, and such a feat was enough to throw her into a frenzy. after realizing just how fragile her own existence was, it was enough to inspire her to do what she'd been yearning to do for weeks now, not bothering to waste any more time before bringing her desires to the forefront. her actions might've come as a surprise to a man as old fashioned as eddie, perhaps used to women being more demure when it came to expressing their affections, but devyn had been incredibly tame leading up to that point. she'd been waiting for the right moment, wanting to make sure she didn't scare him away or overstep her boundaries, but now she'd been given an excuse to act with reckless abandon. she gave him no opportunity to protest as the adrenaline fueled her boldness, grasping his hands and pinning them to the bed on either side of his head as she groaned against his mouth, already beginning to collapse against him with her strength swiftly waning. the whimper she let out at the feeling of his tongue lavishing over the puncture marks on her neck was one of a wounded animal, almost desperate to become prey once again. as badly as she wanted him, she was too weak to be the aggressor in the way she truly wanted to be, needing eddie to take the reins so she could lay back and enjoy what was given to her. he could go back in for seconds and finish her off for good, or he could indulge the lust that had taken over her consciousness in the aftermath of his initial attack, and either way she'd be eager to accept his advances. with a whine, she pressed herself closer to him, a more forceful roll of her hips sending a spark of arousal through her whole body. "get on top," she murmured, pupils blown wide as she pulled back enough to look down at him. while she'd managed to hold her own until then, devyn could feel her strength waning, and she knew she only had so long before she was flopping back against the mattress in exhaustion. "please? please, eddie?"
eddie wasn't entirely surprised by devyn's move to kiss him, after having been on the precipice of death, her toes brushing off a cliff's edge she'd never be able to come back from, it made sense that she'd cling to something that would make her feel alive. she hadn't actually been as far gone as eddie was making it out to be in his head, it would've taken him a little longer to get to the point of no return but it was too close for comfort. he had been so careful around her, always watchful of any touch he offered in case he overstepped a boundary that hadn't been expressed but was otherwise common sense. they were from two completely different times, what modern individuals considered appropriate had shocked him for a long time and even despite growing used to modern life, there was that socialisation from when he was young that had managed to worm its way so deep into him that he had no hope of ever moving away from it. he tried to be a gentleman, maybe not to the degree that would've been expected from a man back when he was born but still lightyears more respectful than he'd seen other men being the last few decades. he wanted to tell her that she needed to rest, that he would still be there later if she really was so desperate to touch him but words failed him when devyn's kisses were so hungry and so completely distracting. the swapping of spit and blood between their smacking lips, the gentle weight of her as she somehow climbed onto his lap without having to slump immediately in a heap from the use of energy, whatever sense of responsibility eddie had tried to cling to in response to his lack of control had faded into thin air. he should've been helping her back into bed, feeding her another cookie then leaving to let her sleep off the wooziness but there they were instead, eddie's cock fattening from the friction devyn applied with each clumsy roll of her hips and his bloody mouth trailing away from devyn's so he could move back down to the puncture marks he'd left and lather his tongue over the sensitive wounds. it was a dangerous game, the taste of her blood was thick on his tongue and it would be so easy to sink his fangs in once more and drink whatever was left but after the trust she'd shown in him, even after he'd already almost sucked her dry, his love for her trumped any kind of biological temptation that was fighting to take over. he could clean her up with his tongue, lick up every evidence of his monstrosity and then give her whatever it was that she needed to feel full up and satisfied. he could try and pretend that it was for her benefit, that he was pushing aside his worries about her wellbeing to make her happy but eddie was just as eager to finally toss formalities and rules out of the way and give fully into whatever carnal desires were coming finally to the surface.

in a strange way, it felt good to completely relinquish control to another. her body was his for the taking; eddie had the power to completely drain her if he so chose, she was letting him make that call, and he had proven his loyalty to her by letting her live. she hadn't intentionally been testing him, but if she was, he would've passed with flying colors. though he might not've had the same assessment of himself, she couldn't be happier with how everything had went. even after the intrinsic terror that came along with what her body registered as an attack, it was comforting to allow another to hold her fate in his hands, especially since she'd already fostered so much trust in eddie. all she had to do was lay back and allow him to take what he needed, and then eventually nurse her back to health. for someone who'd grown so accustomed to her independence, never relying on anyone else to care for her, it was a welcome change. the only time she could ever really remember being cared for in that way was when her dad was still in the picture, but that was over a decade ago. in the time since he'd been sent to prison, devyn had come to accept the fact that she was on her own, and that's just how it would be for the rest of her life. there was a safety to it, knowing she was solely responsible for her own fate, and anything bad that happened to her was her doing, and hers alone. trust didn't come easily to her; she didn't have any close friends, she didn't talk to her family, and she avoided serious relationships lest her partner somehow find out who her father was. everyone else was kept at an arm's length, but not only had she let eddie in emotionally, she wanted to allow him to consume her physically— she just happened to be lucky enough to make that desire literal. what she couldn't say with words, she could give in blood, and though their feelings remained unspoken, she knew he knew. it was the delirium of the blood loss that had made her bold enough to actually make a move on him, but it was something she'd been wanting to do for ages now. it felt right, natural, even, the logical conclusion to such a strangely intimate act as feeding another with her own blood, and she funneled all her strength into the kiss. she'd tasted her own blood before, and while it didn't disgust her, it's not like she ever enjoyed it. for some reason, though, sucking off what remained coating his lips, she found a new sort of gratification in it. it still just tasted like blood to her, and it wasn't anything she'd willingly consume, but she was experiencing it through his perspective, imagining how it must taste to him as her hunger spurred on the frantic movement of her lips. somehow she was able to regain enough control of her body to maneuver herself onto his lap, albeit clumsily, straddling him and bringing her other hand up to tangle in his hair. her actions were verging on desperation, whining softly into his mouth as she shifted her hips, subtly grinding herself down on him to relieve some of that tension that had been building ever since he started lecturing her, unable to muster up the brain power to consider if she was doing too much, or going too far. exhaustion was no longer a factor, now running on pure adrenaline that set her body alight. the smart thing to do would be to take a pause until she regained her strength a bit more, lest she risk pushing herself too hard too fast, but all devyn could could focus on was her desire for eddie, and the frenzied lust he stirred within her that was only compounded by their deep emotional connection.
if he sat and wallowed in his pity, eddie knew that he would quickly become unable to look after devyn in the way that he wanted to and that alone was all the encouragement he needed to pull himself up and out of his desire to sink into his shame. her hand against his cheek, comforting him in a moment when he should've been offering the same to her, even when their differences had become inconceivably apparent, he had never felt so seen and understood by another person. the amount of trust she had afforded in him, that strong desire to give him sustenance despite knowing he could find it someplace else, it wasn't lost on him that despite the fear and potentially dire consequences of the situation, the smell of her arousal had only waned slightly. she was so strange, and yet he craved her approval, he wanted to know that despite what he'd taken from her, he'd also given her something valuable too. a shuddered sigh fell from his bloody lips at the sound of her confession, he hadn't realised he'd been holding his breath and yet once he'd exhaled his lungs burned in complaint of their emptiness and he had to take another couple quick inhales to make up for what lacked. it puzzled him how she could possibly feel there was anything good about what he'd just done to her but she said it so sincerely with what little energy she had left; if he had tried to look any fonder of her, his eyes might have turned into cartoon love hearts. after decades of seeing his thirst for blood as something that could only ever keep him away from humans, never fully trusting that he would be able to hold his tongue about what he was or shy away from baring his teeth at a flash of a pretty neck, devyn had proved to him not only how much she cared about him, but how far his love for her could go in literally stopping his biological response to drain her dry. it was an emotional situation, the lack of blood could have been making her feel more sentimental than usual but even despite that knowledge, eddie found himself nodding unconsciously along to her romantic words. she was right, he hadn't bestowed the experience onto many people, none of whom who had asked for it like she had and that mutual agreement, the understanding of what was to come and why they were taking part in such a violent act, it made everything feel all the more intimate.
he was too busy trying to take in the details of her face as the colour returned to it that he didn't realise that he was being pulled closer, not until her soft lips pressed against his own and he let out a soft noise of surprise. her attraction to him wasn't a shock, the body could only hide so many secrets after all but he had come to assume it was only that, it wasn't romantically driven but instead something purely physical. he'd had lovers in the past but had eventually come to realise that he was not able to have the kind of low-key, easy-going relationships that the twenty-first century seemed to boast about. he'd lived without touch for so long that it was the emotional connection he had come to crave, it was the only thing he felt like he could have without fear of breaking, however, devyn's lips against his didn't scare him like he thought it might. if anything, he wanted to give her anything she wanted, even if later she might come to regret her forwardness and try to play it off as a symptom of her ill delusions. another noise followed as she deepened the kiss and eddie shakily let his grip on her wrist loosen so he could reach out and cup her face instead, pulling her in the small distance that still remained between them so that their noises smushed together. the human part of him echoed out in the back of his head, reminding him that they needed to clean up, that devyn needed to rest after everything he'd just put her body through. it was logical, somewhere he recognised it to be true, but that hunger that swelled further than his belly called for more attention, no longer for blood but for her body against his; the growing heat that warmed his freezing skin, her cigarette smoke breath and eyelashes fluttering against his cheek, he'd already taken so much from her, now he had the chance to give something back.

just because a person was capable of monstrous things, that didn’t make them an outright monster. devyn and eddie’s upbringings led them to two different conclusions on the matter, but her opinion wasn’t solely a sign of the times. growing up surrounded by vampire media that emphasized their humanity underneath the killer instinct certainly aided in her ability to see him as someone she could trust, relating him to those reluctant, self-loathing vampires concocted by the likes of anne rice and stephanie meyer, but then there was her more personal experience with mortality and morality— in a strange way, eddie reminded devyn of her father. he, too, hadn’t wanted to harm anyone, and she had witnessed just how difficult it was for him to carry out his heinous acts, but he’d been fully convinced it was necessary. even as she’d grown older and understood that, no matter his intentions, what he’d done was objectively wrong, she still couldn’t hold him at fault, and neither would she with eddie and what he’d done to survive. eddie had something her father never did, though, and that was the good sense to be aware of his actions, up until the frenzied blood lust had taken precedent. had she been harboring any doubts as to whether or not he was still the good guy she'd come to care for, his treatment of her after the fact would've landed him back in her good graces in a heartbeat. the way he held her was so tender, cradling her in his arms as if to protect her from the dangers of the world, when he himself was the biggest threat to her at the moment. devyn didn't see it that way, and she likely never would. as he echoed his thanks, she let out a soft hum of satisfaction, adjusting herself in his arms so she was sitting up a bit more once she'd become more alert. moving too fast made things go fuzzy, and her limbs still felt heavy but she was steadily wading her way through that fog she'd fallen into as a result of his greed, and back into the light of day. her breath hitched in her throat as he caught her by the wrist, ceasing her curious exploration of his lips and redirecting her touch to cup his cheek, the smooth skin cool to the touch under her steadily warming palm. stroking her thumb up the ridge of his cheekbone, she admired the high arching angle of it, his features coming into sharp focus the longer she focused in on him, so overwhelmed with affection that she once again felt lightheaded. "mmmm..." she wrinkled her nose slightly as she thought of a way to properly describe the multitude of emotions she'd experienced during the feeding, how to put it into words without potentially scaring him off. it was as bad as he'd warned her it would be, and yet even more blissful than she could've imagined. the knowledge of what she'd given him, the deep spiritual connection she'd felt just from knowing she was providing him with several days worth of strength was truly the most satisfying of all, and to confess such would be to allude to how deeply her feelings for him extended. "it was good," she murmured, using her hold on the side of his face to subtly draw him in. "i've never felt so close to someone before..." her eyes again flittered down to his mouth, leaning in like she was impulsively drawn into his orbit, though she paused with her face just inches from his, hovering there for a moment to give him the opportunity to pull back before she finally followed through and pressed her lips to his. it was nothing but a soft kiss at first, only a bit of gentle pressure as she tested the waters, but then her own hunger got the best of her, and her lips parted before focusing their efforts on his lower lip, slotting it between hers so she could taste the metallic tang of the blood that still stained it.
when he considered being in devyn's shoes, with her perched on top of him instead, taking what she needed till she was full and satisfied, eddie supposed he could understand how she was able to view the act as something positive, how she could throw aside any concept of disgust and be so forthcoming in the face of danger. his concept of bloodsucking had been tainted for him by the lack of choice he'd been offered when it had first happened to him, it'd been done in some backwards act of kindness, his turning into a vampire his only shot at any sort of life at all after living with sickness for so long but it wasn't something he'd ever wished for. he'd had nothing but negative experiences, his entire view of what he was and what that meant for the world was tainted with darkness but devyn didn't have that, she'd grown up around stories that took the myth of the vampire and made it something more humane and palatable, he was almost envious of how easily she'd come to accept him because it'd been centuries and he was yet to do the same for himself. it felt wrong to admit out loud how good she tasted, especially when it must have been so obvious considering how he'd drank from her like a street pup, ravaging her for every last drop till he remembered he was trying to be domesticated, but at that moment he was so keen to give her everything she wanted in thanks for the gift she'd given him that he pushed aside his own apprehensions. "yes- yes, you... you taste good." he admitted, though good felt like nothing in comparison to his actual feelings. if he told her how delicious she actually was then it was likely she'd encourage him to drink from her again and he couldn't do that, not when he had learned how easy it was for him to get lost when it came to her. once back in his bedroom and devyn propped in his arms, eddie did his best to let her drink from the glass without too much mess. they were already both in such a state that it didn't matter what else they spilt but even with his help, devyn's frantic gulps left her with juice trickling down her face, dripping down past her chin and onto her collarbones. cleaning up was his number one priority once she had the strength to move without his help, it'd help both of them feel a little more normal again and bring eddie back down from the frantic state of bloodlust that he still felt the urge to dip his toes back into thanks to what remained staining his face and hands. he noticed her heartbeat pick up again as he placed the glass down on the bedside table and instead of being curious about what had caused the sudden flurry, all he could feel was relief in hearing how strong it was again, even if only momentarily. "thank you." he parroted softly with the smallest smile, then froze as devyn's hand reached up and found its way to his mouth, her delicate fingers running over his plump, bloody lips like how one might stroke a blanket to test how soft it was. he didn't know how to respond to such a bold gesture, especially in conjunction to everything else he was trying to make sense of rushing through his mind. without thinking, he reached down and took a gentle hold of her wrist, pulling her away from his mouth but not his face altogether. instead, he brought her hand up to cradle the side of his face, allowing him to lean in against her and take a brief moment of respite from all the panic he was causing for himself. his dark eyes fluttered closed and for that short moment, eddie wasn't stricken with guilt or remorse, he felt contented and safe in devyn's palm and he could pretend that everything was alright. "what was it like?" he already knew but for some reason, he needed to hear it in her words. was it everything she thought it would be? was it scarier? was there still that desire to keep feeding him? the answers to those questions scared him, yet that only made him more eager to hear.

was it the residual blood lust leading him to lap up every little streak he'd left smeared on her skin? just a way to comfort her after being left on the edge of consciousness? or were his true desires finally flooding to the surface now that he'd almost lost her? devyn was already confused in general, but she couldn't pin down any one thread and follow it— there was just a vague swirling mass of question marks floating around in her brain, too exhausted to think critically. while she didn't know and couldn't begin to guess what it meant, what she did know was that she wanted it, and it was frustrating that she was too weak to do anything about it. aside from that, she did feel a sense of satisfaction at knowing that she'd successfully satiated his thirst, as if it wasn't something that could be accomplished by every other human in the world. "good." a smile spread over her face, adopting the same delusionally satisfied expression worn by drunks and lunatics. "sssgood? tastes good?" she hoped he couldn't taste the cigarette she smoked before she came over— or maybe he liked that. if it hadn't been good, eddie likely wouldn't have gotten so carried away and nearly drained her, seeing as he'd lived long enough to have developed at least some form of self control, and he had mentioned to her before how fragrant her blood was. she didn't need to be told to know it was good, but was it so wrong to fish for compliments when he usually offered her so little in that regard? what she really yearned for was some sort of confession of his feelings, to know what he truly thought of her, but she'd take whatever she could get out of him. whether or not he admitted it, though, she felt love all around her as he'd drank; love in the form of teeth sunk into her throat, love sucked straight from her veins and into his greedy maw, love in the mercy he'd shown when he stopped, no matter how reluctantly. "mmmm," she tried to nod in confirmation, but her head felt so heavy, she could barely make it twitch. "pleash." even though she'd asked for it, she still pouted at the loss of his body weight pressing her down into the mattress, finally regaining enough stamina to lift her arm a few inches off the bed and reach for him as he retreated from the room before inevitably dropping it back down when her strength waned. time was a foreign concept, as all devyn could do was lay there focus on slowly regaining her vitality, her senses trickling back in as she came to understand her predicament. it wasn't just a matter of feeling a little lightheaded or a brief bout of weakness, her condition was more serious than she'd initially been aware of, but she forced herself to remain calm. there wasn't much else to do, anyway; panicking over how she could barely even move would only waste much needed energy, and she trusted that eddie would do everything in his power to help nurse her back to health. she didn't know how long he was gone, likely only a minute or two before he was rushing back into the room with a glass of juice and cookies, just as she'd requested. luckily, she didn't even need to support her own neck, as he took on the responsibility of propping her up and holding the glass to her lips. as soon as the sweet liquid met her tongue, it was like being brought back to life, beginning to take greedy gulps despite his guidance, some of the sticky nectar dribbling out of the sides of her mouth and down her chin in her haste to consume as much as she could as fast as possible. once she'd emptied half the glass, spilling almost as much as she swallowed, devyn pulled back slightly, looking up at eddie and fully noticing just how bloody he was. rather than disgust, she felt her gut flip from something closer to desire, gaze fixated on his bloodied mouth as her heart rate kicked up to a heightened speed in stark contrast to its former dull thumping. "thank you..." her voice was still a mumble, but decidedly clearer, one hand drifting up of its own volition and absentmindedly brushing her fingertips over his blood painted lips.
after working hard to keep their relationship as platonic as possible, mainly on account of his bad experience with having to let people go in the past, it was undoubtedly confusing for devyn to have eddie suddenly showering her with affection. his flurry of sloppy kisses was the release of weeks and weeks of harboured feelings, daydreams and desires he'd kept beaten down because they hurt too much to consider for long. he'd been forced into a state of celibacy from any kind of intimacy because of his certainty of harm, if not to the others around him then at least to himself but after sharing such an intense experience with devyn, how was he expected not to let wayward feelings swim to the surface? "i'm sure." he could've drank more but why would he risk her life for a couple more days of strength? she'd already given him so much, more than she ever needed to and eddie felt greedy enough as it was. he felt terrible, even though he had only done as she wished. it occurred to him that devyn's willingness to let him feed with reckless abandon was not only an example of her care for him but a lack of care for herself. it hurt to imagine that he was fulfilling some kind of secret ache for destruction, especially when all he'd ever wanted for her was to feel safe in his presence. his thin brows drew close as he focused on what she was trying to say, his eyes settled on her mouth and while he tried to concentrate, after all the kisses he had laid across her features it was impossible to not wonder about the one place he hadn't laid his lips. it made him feel like a bad person, already a predator for what he had taken from her and then a pervert for getting distracted by his own stupid feelings when her wellbeing should have been his greatest concern. "orange juice?" he repeated blankly, his frown only deepening as she continued to speak but he quickly came to understand what she was trying to get across. "you want- okay. okay, give me a second." as gracefully as he could, eddie climbed off from on top of devyn and stumbled to his feet, shaky like a newborn deer but quick to catch his balance. before leaving his room he took one last look at her on his bed, laid out like a corpse and painted red with his clumsy attempts to hold her. without another word, he darted out of the door and went into the kitchen. the only food he had around was for his guests, he didn't eat any of it and had often joked that it was his lack of hunger that had kept him so lanky and frail throughout his life. the glass he poured the orange juice into became smudged with blood too, as did anything eddie touched in his hurry to find what devyn needed. he could have paused to watch his hands but he wasn't thinking straight, much too concerned with the speed at which he returned to her to think about the mess he was leaving in his wake. he can't have been gone for more than a minute or two before he appeared back through the doorway, balancing a glass of orange juice and a couple stale cookies from the back of his cupboard. he sat down on the edge of the bed once putting the cookies down on his bedside table and carefully hooked his arm around devyn, encouraging her to sit up so he could hold the glass up to her lips. "there you go... nice and slow."

it was a wonder devyn managed to remain conscious, as even the act of breathing felt like a chore. despite her weakness, she was fighting with everything in her to remain responsive, though the strain she was putting on herself would likely only exacerbate her exhaustion. it was a true testament to her mortality, proof of how weak her human form was when compared to his newfound vitality. she wanted to show him she wasn't as fragile as he feared she was, proving that he didn't have to worry about using her as a permanent source of sustenance, but she couldn't fight against biology. her body had betrayed her, and now she had no choice but to deal with the repercussions of being seen as a frail being. vaguely, she registered his confirmation, though she was unable to nod in understanding. instead, she tried to respond verbally, only managing a guttural croak before getting her vocal cords to work again. "sss... yousure?" the syllables fused together in her haste to speak, swallowing thickly though her throat felt like sandpaper. it could've been the blood loss fueling her delirium, more concerned about eddie's thirst being quenched than her own survival, but even if she had been in her right mind, she would've felt the same. the whole purpose of this was for him to feed off her until he was full, and seeing as she wasn't dead yet, she must've had at least a little bit more blood to give. otherwise he'd just be hungry and weakened again in a day or two, and her near death encounter would've been for nothing. she wasn't looking at him, but she felt something wet drag across her cheek— was it possible to hallucinate physical sensations? disoriented, devyn forced her eyelids to remain open, struggling to understand her surroundings as her strength slowly trickled back in bit by bit, still far from ok but no longer in danger of slipping away. when she felt that wet swipe again, and again, followed by the pressure of something vaguely moist dotted across her face, the realization of what she was feeling slowly dawned on her. his tongue, and then his lips; something she'd fantasized about countless times throughout their friendship, and now she wasn't even in her right mind to appreciate it. she tried to reach out and touch him, to hold him to her, but her arm could barely lift up off the bed, letting out a frustrated whine as she could do little more than lay there and allow his frenzied kisses. in her state of delusion, devyn wasn't even fully aware of the severity of her state, only growing more puzzled by his apologies. was it really that bad? by then her vision managed to remain mostly clear, only the edges slightly fuzzy, and she was able to hold his gaze. "s'ok," she murmured, feeling as though he didn't owe her any sort of apology or explanation. he was hungry, and she'd served him a gourmet meal on a silver platter. obviously he'd drank from her with reckless abandon, as she'd wanted him to. he was reassuring her, but she felt no fear; not when his fangs were in her neck, her blood flowing from her veins straight down his throat, and not now as she found herself alive, though just barely, in the arms of a man she cared for deeply. it seemed to be a two way street, his concern for her wellbeing a testament to his morality, a sign that he was more human than he might've thought himself to be. somewhere, from way back in the recesses of her mind, a memory swam to the surface, a bit of that light returning to her eyes, though she was still struggling to do more than wiggle her fingers and toes. "orange juice..." with considerable effort, she forced herself to enunciate both words, speaking slowly. "'n cookie."
she wasn't dying, not yet at least but it wouldn't have been long till she got dangerously close to slipping into darkness and never coming back out if he had continued drinking. hearing her heartbeat slowed, a tortoise pace after finding it so often running a marathon when in his presence, it made eddie feel nauseous to know he was the one who had diminished her. he pressed down against the small bite marks on her neck till he no longer felt her blood threatening to trickle out, at which point he brought that hand up to her face so both were cupping her cold cheeks. her blood was smeared all over her pretty face and forced eddie to acknowledge his actions, how close he'd gotten to being unable to stop and outright killing devyn because of his own hunger. there wasn't space for him to grow emotional over his actions, not until he was certain that she was going to be okay, he wouldn't waste time freaking out when she needed him there and present. her voice, while heavy and slurred, was a breath of fresh air and eddie found himself nodding along despite knowing all too well what the blood loss would have done to her vision. "i'm done." he repeated while his thumb rubbed over the slippery ridge of her cheekbone. "i don't need anymore-" the fact she was still concerned about whether or not he had fed enough when she was nearly sucked dry raised a red flag in eddie's mind but he put it aside to question her about later, at that moment he took it as a sign of her affection for him and let it warm him instead. he remained straddling her, worried that if he moved away she might try and reach for him and use up more of her energy. even as she turned to look up at him, it was obvious that there was barely a light flickering behind her eyes, he had taken too much and somehow, despite knowing that, the smell of her blood still tempted him. it was everywhere, dripping down his gaunt face, smeared across her skin and his hands, before he knew what he was doing eddie had leaned down to lick a long stripe up across her cheek, lapping up the streak of blood he'd accidentally marked her within his haste to hold her. he hummed in disgust at his lack of self-restraint but what started initially as nothing more than a couple of licks quickly switched to messy kisses, splayed across her cheeks at first then moving up to her forehead and down her nose, though he was careful to avoid her lips. "i'm sorry." he mumbled and leaned his forehead down against hers, still sticky with the blood smudged from around his mouth and traces of spit. "i got carried away... i got carried away i'm- i'm sorry. you tasted..." could words even begin to describe it? did he even want to attempt it when it'd undoubtedly fall short? eddie let out a shaky sigh and leaned away for a short moment to press another kiss to her forehead. "you're going to be okay, you'll just need to rest for a while... i promise."

devyn wondered if this what what it felt like to be mauled by some sort of predatory animal— the unrelenting pressure of teeth sunk into her throat, and the crushing weight of his body on top of her, the clawing of his hand keeping her pinned. her natural human survival instincts should've been urging her to try and fight back or find some way to escape, and at first, her body had tried. that was the intended purpose of all that squirming, to try and wiggle out of his grasp and have a moment's reprieve from the overwhelming pain, though it wasn't a conscious attempt. her body could tell she was in imminent danger, because it couldn't differentiate between a senseless killer and one with a conscience, the sort who had every intention of leaving his prey intact so that he may get to sample her blood again. eddie wouldn't hurt her— he wouldn't kill her, at least. consciously, devyn knew that, but her body hadn't yet been made aware. just as she was revitalizing him with her very life force, sustaining him and restoring him back to his former glory, her vitality was swiftly draining with every ounce of blood lost. but it wasn't lost, exactly— it hadn't been wasted, or discarded, but rather, it was being used to its full potential. what better form of devotion than to drain her veins in favor of feeding her beloved? had she been capable of cognitive thought while the whole ordeal was taking place, she would've found herself getting sentimental as she remained on the edge of consciousness, finally able to convey her feelings for eddie in a way she'd never be able to articulate out loud, even if she had the guts. to her, it hadn't felt as though their relationship changed once she found out about what he was, because it's not like it was some big secret anyway; he was pretty shit at not acting like a three hundred year old vampire. after this milestone, however, things would most certainly be different. for devyn, she'd be moving forward with the knowledge of what he was truly capable of, and no matter how she claimed to not be afraid, it would forever influence the way she looked at him. what was more worrying was what eddie might feel after, the guilt from having harmed someone he cared for, and the fear of knowing he wasn't in control of himself the way he wished he could be. it seemed more realistic that she'd be the one to be scared off after all was said and done, finding excuses to avoid him until they just stopped seeing each other altogether, but it would be more likely that he would be the one to end their friendship after this. he would claim it was for her own good, and he just wanted to protect her, but devyn wouldn't let him go that easily. if she came out of this in one piece, there would be no separating them for as long as she lived.
her breathing had become a hollow rattle in her chest, each inhale more labored and strained than the last, heart beat slowed to a weak thump while she laid flopped back on the bed. there wasn't anything else she could do, physically unable to keep herself going while being actively drained, the ball fully in his court as to whether she lived or died. before she fully lost her grip on consciousness, there was a brief spark that lit her up inside, a sick sense of excitement felt at that prospect. her life was in his hands— clutched in his jaw, flowing down his throat and dribbling down his chin. for a brief moment there was blinding, delirious euphoria, and then a numbness that lasted god knows how long, because the next thing she knew, eddie's voice was echoing faintly in her ears, somehow able to hear his call from whatever far off realm she'd been transported to, but responding wasn't so easy. she tried to move, tried to reach for him, but she couldn't even lift her arm or open her mouth. all she could do was lay there for a moment, finally regaining enough strength to do a few slow blinks as her breathing began to deepen. the first noise she could make was a low, rumbling groan, like the sound of frankenstein's monster first awakening on the slab. still unable to turn her head to the side to look at him, devyn's vision focused in on the wall her head was angled towards, occasionally going fuzzy on and off as she struggled to keep the image clear. "done?" the word came out as a slurred mumble, her tongue feeling too thick and too dry to properly articulate anything. "did you... you get enough?" carefully, like even the most gentle of movement at all was too much for her, she turned to face him, unfocused gaze barely able to take in the sight of his chin dripping in blood before her lashes fluttered and her head flopped back to rest against he pillow.
there was little use to try and slow himself down, he couldn't slow the speed at which her body gave him her blood and to not suck it all up would be a waste, instead dripping out from her neck and down onto the towel to be cleaned up later. even as her convulsions grew weaker, the hand remained film in his hair, gripping his curls tightly like it was her only connection to reality. he knew all too well what it felt like, it was nothing compared to what it was like to be turned but the pain was something else entirely, there were few things a human could relate it to and despite her consent, eddie knew he'd forever feel guilty for being the one to introduce devyn to that kind of awful feeling. in that moment though, he could barely think about the repercussions, could barely think about anything at all other than how amazing she tasted and how incredible it felt to feel his strength coming back to him. her body was bringing him back to life, her blood reinvigorating not only his body but his mind and soul too. it wasn't just food to him, it was symbolic and sacred and he put more emphasis on the precious nature of a human's blood than other vampires he'd met throughout his life had. the fact it was devyn's blood made it the most special of all, for she was the first human in a long, long time whom he had allowed himself to get close with and form a relationship of sorts. she had figured out what he was and not turned away in disgust, instead, she had offered herself freely and in acknowledgement of the risks; she was unlike anyone he'd ever met before. another drunken hum against her lips and before he knew it, the body beneath him fell limp and the hand previously in his hair fell lame against the bed. it was like being awoken from a dream, the sort where you hadn't even realised you'd fallen asleep in the first place. without that pressure keeping him at least somewhat attached to reality, it would've been so easy to forget about everything other than sucking her dry, taking each last precious drop of blood out of her small frame and gobbling it up like the greedy monster he had been made to be. another minute or so and she'd be dry, hollowed out like an abandoned house, a mere husk of what she once was. it took him longer than he wanted to comprehend what had happened, a couple of seconds still sucking her blood but once he'd snapped out of his haze, eddie pulled back from her neck with a shudder. the two fang marks on her neck continued to ooze blood once his fangs had been freed from their place within her and eddie placed his trembling hand over the wounds to try and stop the flow, though feeling her blood hot against his palm while her skin had become cold and clammy was a horrifying revelation. "devyn-" her blood had given him new strength but he felt weak at the sight of her glazed expression, her breathing shallow and her body as lame as the roadkill he'd stolen for food when particularly desperate. her blood smeared across her cheek from his own as he moved to hover above her, her face quickly cupped within his free palm with the harsh desperation of a man unable to face the possibility of what he had done. she was alive, though he hadn't been paying attention to the telltale signs of her body slowing down. if he had, he could've stopped himself before she'd become so weak, barely clinging to consciousness. "devyn, can you hear me? i'm done, i'm all done, okay? you did it. you did such a good job."

it was simultaneously better and worse than she'd imagined, her body unsure how to accommodate such an assault. despite how very clearly she embodied the role, devyn didn't feel like a victim. she was physically vulnerable to him, so much weaker and at the mercy of his ability to control himself, but it wasn't an unwilling acquisition of power. devyn had consciously offered herself to him, fully aware of the consequences, prepared to accept whatever may come from taking such a big step as a pair. when bombarded with the amount of stimuli she was currently experiencing, she simply couldn't think straight, entering a purely primal state guided by instinct rather than logic or cognitive function. only vaguely did she register his hand pinning her down, his strength in stark contrast to his scrawny appearance, as if she was fully within her right mind, it would've been enough to send her into a tizzy; she already had enough to distract her as it was. the hand that wasn't tangled in his hair had a fistful of his sheets in a vice grip, desperately seeking something that could ground her when she felt so close to ascending to the heavens. perhaps it would be a delayed reaction, reality not fully setting in until after all was said and done, but she still didn't feel any fear. that could've been the delusion speaking, though. it was excruciating, the reality of being devoured so much messier than it was portrayed in the books and movies, and still, her body somehow responded with eagerness for more. at least she could claim to not be in control of her actions— in the midst of her wiggling, she'd planted her feet on the bed and lifted her hips, subtly attempting to grind up against him while mewling like an injured kitten. it wasn't intentional, even, if she'd been aware of what she'd just done, she'd be mortified, but she simply wasn't in control of what she was doing, unable to stop herself or rein in her desperate actions. the line between the delirious euphoria of initial blood loss and the cold, sinking feeling of toeing the line of lethal loss was apparently thin as razor wire; all too soon, and without warning, devyn felt the strength being zapped from her body, slowly but surely going all but limp beneath him, even her gentle whines going quiet as her body sought to reserve its energy for only basic survival functions. she'd gone nearly still, eyes glazed over and fixated on a spot on the wall, her breathing shallow as only weak noises of protest managed to push their way past her lips. her last sign of life was her grip on his hair, the whole time he'd drank, it remained holding him tightly, but with the draining of her blood went the loss of her strength, her gaze going back and forth between staring at the wall and blacking out, like someone flicking the lights on and off torturously slowly. each time things went dark, the blackout lasted longer than the one before, until her hand had fully loosened and dropped its grip on his hair.
in that moment, as he sunk his teeth deep into her flesh, devyn sounded exactly like every pathetic, scared animal he'd fed off throughout the years, yet she had the privilege of knowing that he had every intention of letting her survive. he recognised, somewhere in the back of his head, how bad that sound made him feel but the second her warm blood flooded past his lips, he was a goner. without thinking, the hand lying beside her head quickly moved to pin her writhing hips down against the mattress. she flopped around like a fish out of water, clearly trying to retreat from the searing pain of his fangs lodged in the side of her pretty neck but there was no escape. she was the best thing he'd ever tasted, which was saying a lot considering the amount of blood he'd drank throughout his life. it was exactly what he'd been afraid of, liking her taste too much and then finding himself in desperate need of it all of the time. her blood began to trickle past his lips as he'd worried it might, dribbling down his chin and onto the towel laid across the mattress, a sticky, crimson mess he'd have to deal with quickly once he was finished because he didn't want devyn to see him covered in her blood like some kind of monster. that had been one of his biggest hesitations, she might not have seen him as a threat before but that was easily changeable once she understood exactly what it was he was capable of. if he didn't want to hold himself back, if he hadn't come to care so deeply about her and other humans then she would've been a husk of her former self long before, completely drained with her last moments filled with nothing but emptiness and dread. she could claim to not be scared of him as much as she liked but she'd always thought of him as gentle, a harmless, odd creature. he stuck out like a sore thumb, as though he were from a completely different time and while he was, part of him knew that he'd likely appear like that no matter when he'd been born. his nature wasn't that of a killer but he'd been infected with that blood-craving disease and his nature didn't matter anymore, what he wanted and what he needed had become two dangerously different things. without realising, eddie groaned into devyn's neck and dug his fingers harder into her hip, he no longer needed to hold her still as the spasms had slowed almost to a complete halt, yet his own hunger had him clawing at her like some kind of predator mauling its prey. after withholding from human blood for such a long time, he could've made the assumption that she tasted so good because of his abstinence but it was more than that. he could barely think, his entire being was focused on the steady flow of her blood which he lapped up hungrily, thoughts of whether or not he needed to slow down were nowhere to be found. one sharp tug on his hair and he would've been knocked out of his haze but he'd almost entirely lost himself in her taste that he couldn't think about whether she even had the strength to do so anymore. the sound of her gurgles and whines grew quieter as eddie's slurping became more pronounced, he drank at her like it would be the last time he got to taste the blood of a human, which it might have been once he came to and realised how easy it was for him to lose himself.

eddie was smart to try and prepare her for the feeling somehow, as there wasn't much else she knew to compare it to. she'd been thinking of it like getting her blood drawn, his fangs the needle as he siphoned her blood straight out of her veins, hopefully holding himself back before he turned her into a dry husk of a former human. it wouldn't be a pleasant feeling, devyn hadn't deluded herself into believing so, but she'd built up a fairly high pain tolerance over the years, so it wasn't anything she couldn't handle. the worst part physically would probably be the amount of blood lost and the side effects that came along with it— the wooziness, the fatigue, and potential loss of consciousness— but the mental component of having another being feed off of her, a creature outside of her control holding her life in its jaw, would perhaps be the most frightening of all. that's why trust was of the utmost importance, and she had that in spades. even after taking off her shirt, removing the necklace made her feel strangely vulnerable, like being stood stark naked before him. wearing it was more of a symbolic gesture, in her eyes, as she'd never truly believed she was in danger of him randomly attacking her at any time, and over time, she'd come to practically forget it was there. taking it off was like a display of devotion, fully offering her body to him in the most sacred way she could. apprehension had yet to set in as he got on the bed and crawled on top of her, heart rate spiking in anticipation rather than fear, her eyes tracking him until she was gazing up at his form hovering over her. it was almost disappointing when he'd angled her head away to get better access to her neck, and she could only nod in response to his well-intentioned reminder. whether or not she'd be able to continue following his guidance would be another thing, but she'd certainly try for as long as she could keep her wits about her. she had to press her lips together as a sort of physical attempt to keep her thoughts tame once he leaned down the rest of the way and brought his face in close to the crook of her neck, feeling a few stray curls tickle her jawline before her hand was guided into his hair. without even needing to be instructed, she threaded her fingers through the unruly locks, taking gentle hold by the roots and reveling in the silkiness. "i know," she assured him, her voice soft and quavering. all she could do was lay back and await the sensation of consumption, no idea how long he would keep her in suspense, or if he'd chicken out and lose his nerve altogether. before she could even really ponder on the matter, two white hot needlepoints of pain shot into the side of her neck, her mouth instinctually dropping open in a strangled cry. she hadn't meant to scream, genuinely believing she could keep her composure throughout, but she was caught off guard by just how much it hurt. her body writhed beneath him, seeking some sort of relief from the crushing pressure of teeth in her neck, but he didn't let up. devyn didn't want him to, clearly, as her grip on his hair had become used to hold him closer, grip tightening as the anguish mingled with something more complex. it was a sort of delirium induced euphoria, the sensation of her blood being drained out of her body so swiftly enough to send her mind into a tailspin, and in its desperate bid to get control of the situation, it had come to muddy the boundaries between pain and pleasure. as her body began to relax, frantic thrashing slowing to infrequent, uncontrollable twitches and wiggles, so too changed her cries of agony into softer whimpers and choked, gurgling groans. her eyes had rolled back in her head as soon as his fangs broke skin, but they finally focused back on the ceiling once she began to really notice the loss of blood, the beginnings of lightheadedness causing her vision to blur around the edges on and off.
in his mind, it was better to give her a small taste of what she was about to experience than to throw her into the deep end, with nothing to cling to and no telling what her reaction might be. it was easy to assume you would respond one way when surviving on just mere theory but now she knew what it would be like when he came to drink her blood, even though it was on a much smaller scale. her quickened heartbeat, the air sucked from her lungs in a sudden stolen exhale, eddie yet again couldn't miss the strengthening of that heady smell of arousal once more prevent in the room, only this time it didn't confuse him quite as much. he could understand while her body had come to react in that way because with her finger in his mouth and the smallest amount of her blood on his tongue, eddie felt the first twist of lust deep within his belly. it was a dangerous feeling to try and balance, the last thing he wanted was to get his focus stolen away by anything, whether it be that instinct to suck till the body beneath him was dry or to lose himself in the eroticism quickly manifesting around them alongside the anticipatory tension. eddie watched with heavy-lidded eyes as devyn obeyed his simple command and got onto the bed, laying herself down momentarily before removing the silver chain that had been keeping her safe- at least in eddie's eyes. he liked to think that he was capable of keeping himself in check, that he wouldn't have tried to harm her without the silver there to keep him at bay but the certainty that he couldn't touch her even if he had grown weak made him feel a lot better. she was unwrapped now, her little gift to him being her body and there were no words to even begin to try and describe the emotions battling within him. all he could do was give her a moment or two to compose herself, then move to climb into the bed himself, choosing to position himself straddling her petite form instead of awkwardly knelt to the side of her. the anticipation was almost too much to bear, he could barely handle his own body's excitement, ready to drool like a starved man placed in front of a three-course meal, but devyn was more than a way to quench his vampiric thirst. he wouldn't treat her like a piece of meat, not when she was trusting him with her life, even though she seemed to doubt his ability to truly hurt her. after considering the sight of her for a long moment, eddie reached down and slowly tilted her head to the side, exposing her smooth, warm neck while the sound of her quickened pulse drummed in his ears like the vibrations of music through a wall. "just keep breathing." eddie's voice was gentle as he could make it but he couldn't hide the slight tremble. slowly, he lowered himself down, their chests brushing together as he made himself at home against the crook of her neck. the sharp edge of his nose pressed against her skin and he took a long inhale, his mouth practically watering at the intensity of her scent. "if you need me to stop..." he mumbled and blindly reached for her hand, then moved it up threaded her fingers through his curls. he lay his hand over hers for a moment to make sure she understood, then moved his down to rest against the mattress. if he managed to hold himself back, then she would have the strength to tug on his hair and pull him out of his haze but that all relied on his ability to not get lost in the taste of her. finally, when no protests came and as gently as he could, eddie found that sweet spot where the blood would flow the easiest and pierced her with one swift, sharp bite.

removing her shirt was mainly about protecting it from blood, just as offering her body to him in this way was mainly about achieving a sort of closeness two humans would never be able to reach, but if either action happened to entice him in any way, that wouldn't be the worst outcome in the world. surely he'd seen tits before. from what she'd gathered, eddie was somewhat inexperienced as far as vampires of his age, but he wasn't a teenager. sometimes she forgot how old he was, thinking of him as one of her peers, before remembering that he'd been around for hundreds of years, and she was barely even a baby in comparison. devyn was feeling every bit as juvenile as she technically was, based by how easily effected she became in his presence. she'd approached him with the intent to comfort him, hoping he'd sense her mental strength and it'd rub off on him, but once he'd brought her hand to his mouth, her mind went blank. apparently taking her shirt off really was all she needed to do to seduce him— he was staring at her so intently, and her breathing deepened as eddie guided one finger past his lips, no choice but to break their eye contact when her attention became fixated on his mouth. she'd always known he had nice lips. their fullness softened his otherwise sharp features, and she'd found herself distracted by them when he rambled on more often than she'd like to admit, drawn down like a magnet when she really had meant to pay attention. he was captivating in so many ways, not just physically, but he acted so very strange that devyn couldn't help but find herself drawn to him even before she'd connected the dots and learned of his true nature. when she'd first met him, dressed like he'd walked out of five different eras, she'd jokingly thought he was a time traveler, and the answer wasn't far off. foolishly, she hadn't seen the bite coming— her mind was already perched on the edge of the gutter, so that's exactly where it tipped when her hand approached his mouth, but her breath hitched in her throat when her finger instead met the tip of his fang, able to feel how lethally sharp it was. she held her breath the whole time he applied gentle pressure up until the pointed tooth broke skin, at which point all her breath rushed out of her in a heavy whoosh. it wasn't painful so much as surprising, the quickest little pinprick before the wetness of his mouth was soothing the hurt. the impassioned sucking of her finger, his eyes shutting in ecstasy, it all made her dizzy with desire, though she was genuinely trying her hardest to keep her head in check. the whole exchange probably only lasted a few seconds, realistically, but in her head it felt like a lifetime. she was still trying to clear the fog from her brain when he released, devyn drawing her arm in close and cradling her injured hand with the other. all she could do was nod dumbly once he uttered his plain instruction, her body acting to comply before her brain could fully process what was asked of her, wordlessly getting back on the bed, this time laying down on top of the towel. finally her mind caught up with the present moment, and she quickly sat back up, hands going to the back of her neck to unclasp her silver chain before leaning over to place it on the bedside table for safe keeping. fully ripe for the biting, she laid back, smoothing her hair away from one side of her neck and trying to keep from letting her nerves pop up out of nowhere while she waited for him to join her.

eddie was tempted to argue that it was a big deal but that would involve having to admit to his feelings for her and considering what they were about to do, he didn't think it be a smart move. he wasn't ignorant of how devyn felt towards him, he knew there was some kind of interest there but there was only so much the body could tell him and he had come to believe that it was nothing more than a physical curiosity. he wasn't a mind reader, he could only make do with what information he had been afforded. he averted his eyes as she quickly undressed and didn't bring his attention back to her until he was forced to, her hand wrapping around his to stop his nervous habit from fully taking hold of his entire nail. he believed her, there was no way he couldn't but it wasn't as easy to trust himself. being scared wouldn't help either of them, he needed to be brave and prove that not only was he strong enough to resist his biological temptation, but that he could do so without the weight of guilt on his shoulders. slowly, torturously so, eddie slipped himself out of devyn's grasp and instead wrapped his hand around hers. he brought it up to his mouth, gently prodding at his full lips till he parted them and slipped one of her fingers inside. he forced himself to maintain eye contact despite the intensity of her gaze and pressed her soft fingertip against one of his fangs. she should at least know what she was getting herself into before he laid her down and shoved them into her neck, though it was more so to test whether or not he could stomach the taste of her blood without going completely feral. pressing harder on the pointed edge, he waited till he smelt the first tinge of her sweet blood then quickly wrapped his lips around her finger and sucked what small amount had risen to the service after the pinpoint prick from his fang. before he could stop them, his eyes fluttered closed in pure bliss, after not feeding for so long the taste of her was exquisite, better than anything he could have ever imagined despite knowing her smell intimately. not wishing to get carried away, eddie forced himself to pull back and let her finger fall from his mouth. "lay down." he said through a shuddered breath before turning away to compose himself. he hadn't gone ahead and bitten her finger clean off, a good sign, he supposed, but he had been quick to realise that it wasn't only his bloodthirsty instincts he had to try and hold back, now he had to be careful not to let his own arousal get the best of him which with devyn beneath him, half-dressed and whimpering, would quickly become a test of his endurance.

as much as she was trying to tame her own thoughts, there was only so much she could control when it came to how her brain interpreted things, just as he couldn't control his senses. he'd simply have to forgive her for her slip ups and see that she was at least trying to redirect to something less raunchy. on her own in his room, she didn't have him there to keep her in line, forced to police herself for the sake of maintaining the act's integrity. she wondered if there was a range of distance in which eddie could read her thoughts, or if he could just tap in whenever he wanted, wherever he wanted. no matter the answer, or if he could even see her thoughts at all, there's no way devyn could monitor herself at all times. if he happened to catch a snippet of her picturing him lifting and tossing her onto the bed with the slightest of ease as she sat down on the edge of it in reality, then he'd just have to deal with it. surely he must be used to much worse from complete strangers, he could stomach a harmless sex fantasy or two from her. she wasn't worried about it complicating their friendship, either— he had to know how she felt already. there's no way she'd say it just yet, but she was willing to let him feed on her blood, for fuck's sake. what else could that possibly spell, beyond devotion of one form or another? she was offering him a vital piece of herself, not even because he needed it to live, but because she wanted him to have it. she wanted a piece of her to live inside him, even if only temporarily. the weight of it all really set in once he entered the room, feeling the air shift somehow with his presence. she'd said the first thing that came to mind, not even taking the time to think how it might come across given the circumstances, her blush delayed for a moment or two before she eventually averted her gaze. "i probably shouldn't have worn white," she chuckled sheepishly. "i guess i didn't think of that." while he took to laying out the towels, she sat up, taking a moment to really think, as though it weren't already clear which outcome would win out. "i'll just take it off," she decided finally, trying to play it off with a casual shrug. "it's no big deal, i'm wearing a bra." one less layer wouldn't help her arousal issue in the slightest, but if it was to be an issue regardless of what they did, she'd rather spare her shirt the blood stains than risk it. she could wear one of his shirts, of course, but maybe she also just wanted a reason to subtly shift the energy in her favor. in one swift move she'd crossed her arms across her body to grasp at the hem of her shirt before peeling it up and off, haphazardly tossing it off to the side with no real aim. turning to check on him, she frowned, not even a second thought before she rose from where she sat and approached him, grasping the hand he had held up to his mouth and gently pulling it away before he could continue splintering his fingernails. "don't be scared," she told him, almost commanding him. "i'm not scared."

eddie tried to ignore the fresh wave of her arousal he could pick up in the air, subtle like a spritz of perfume but their close proximity made it all the more difficult to fake ignorance over. he wanted to ask what it was that she found so exciting about the whole thing, how seeing him with her blood dripping down his face could be potentially sexual and not terrifying but that would mean revealing just how much he could know about her from just her scent alone and that was a whole other conversation. he was thankful for the excuse to go take a moment to himself while he gathered the towels, there was no way that he would be able to get over his apprehension in such a short amount of time but at least without devyn watching him he could take a break from trying to be put together. she'd laughed at the idea but he was scared, she was offering him so much of her trust and the last thing he wanted was to betray that trust with his inability to hold himself back. he lingered a little longer than he should've while getting the towels but once he was back in his room, all the effort he'd tried to put into gaining some kind of confidence about the situation came crashing down like a house of cards in a mild wind. after being alive for so long, it'd be an easy assumption to make that eddie had seen his fair share of women in states of undress, and maybe he had considering all the years he'd been able to do so but in the grand scheme of things, it was actually a very small amount. he cared about things like romance and loving someone was hard when you knew you were inevitably going to outlive them, accepting the pain that comes with love was something he had never truly allowed himself to do and that meant many of his encounters had been nothing more than a way to scratch an itch. he still found himself able to be flustered at the idea of seeing someone as beautiful as devyn without her shirt on and he thought that was a good thing, a little touch of his humanity still lodged deep within his cold soul. "uh- if you- i'll try not to be messy but if you're worried about your shirt then..." he spoke quickly, nervous eyes drawn away from her body. before she could say anything more, he walked over to the bed and started to lay the towels down, one over his pillow and the other down across the mattress. "i can give you one of mine if you want or- whatever you're comfortable with." eddie shrugged, like it wasn't a big deal at all, and brought his hand up to his mouth so that he could anxiously chew on his nails.

if anyone would be changing their mind and going back on their word, it would surely be eddie. there was no doubt in devyn's mind that this was what she wanted, no apprehension to be found. genuine nerves might set in once he actually laid her down and poised to bite, everything she'd been imagining for the past several weeks suddenly becoming real, but devyn could handle that when it came down to it. even though he wasn't the most experienced when it came to this potentially deadly exchange, eddie was still the most trustworthy person she knew; just the fact that he'd gone to such great lengths to properly mentally prepare her for it meant that he would take the utmost care of her for as long as he was able to control himself. but, again, devyn had more faith in his abilities than perhaps he had in his own. she knew he could do it without going too far, so long as he trusted himself as much as she trusted him. the thumping of her heart beneath his palms must've been more than tempting with no barrier of silver keeping him away like a barbed wire fence, and she knew there was only so long a hungry cat could go before lunging at a plump juicy pigeon dangled right in front of its face. devyn, with her especially fragrant blood, must've been like catnip. "right, of course," she nodded her understanding, another inexplicable wash of warmth emanating from her lower abdomen as she let herself visualize him with his mouth full of her blood. the image was but a brief flash before she banished it from her mind, fearing that eddie would see and call her out for letting her mind wander when she was supposed to be serious. she was taking it all seriously, it's just that imagining every detail of a new experience before taking part in it helped her prepare herself, and so she had no choice but to let her attention drift every so often. "agreed. bed is good." forcing her mind not to wander down salacious avenues while laid out on eddie's bed with his weight pressing down on her would not be easy— it'd be nearly impossible, but, then again, it wouldn't matter where she was. if the concept in general was so arousing to her, they could do it anywhere and the result would be the same. she could sense his unease, and so devyn took it upon herself to take the lead. "how about you go get some towels and whatever else we might need just in case and meet me in your room?" giving him a task to do would at least provide him with an immediate distraction from whatever catastrophic scenarios he was playing out in his head, and it'd give her a little time to cool down before being tested again. for but a brief pause, she had the opportunity to linger at his dresser, admiring the various artifacts laid out atop it, some new and some even older than him— a concert ticket from the show she'd taken him to last week, some ancient pocket watch that somehow still worked perfectly, cologne from the 80s that had only grown more aromatic with time. when he eventually met her in his room with the towels, she was sitting on the edge of his bed, leaning back with her palms pressed to the mattress behind her. "do you think i should take my shirt off?" she blurted out before he'd even closed the door.

their agreement was a reluctant one but there was no going back on it now; eddie had made his bed, and now he needed to lay devyn down in it. he'd been sustaining himself in less satisfying ways, the blood of animals was acceptable to quench his hunger but it wasn't nearly as tasty as a human's was and it didn't tick those primal desire boxes in quite the same way. it was like craving a big, juicy beef burger and being handed one made of soy and vegetables, it was edible and scratched some kind of itch but it wasn't killing the craving. the silver chain around her neck had been doing a lot of the battle for him, there had been nights where he'd paced endlessly around his room, contemplating the moral repercussions of his need to drink from her but they could only ever exist as theoretical because of his inability to get close. her heartbeat pounding against his frozen hands should have brought him some comfort, it was better that she be excited than scared after all, yet it brought a strange amount of pressure on needing to perform. he'd been so worried about the extremes of what could go wrong that he'd forgotten about the small details, about making the right puncture and being careful not to crush her under his weight as he laid atop her, there was so much to consider that it made him feel a little fuzzy. it didn't help that he hadn't eaten in a while, he'd trained himself to be able to restrict his intake for days, a week or so if he had to but it left him ill and lethargic. he'd been a sick kid before he was turned, always on the verge of dying from something. it had been a miracle he'd survived long enough to get bitten, although eddie didn't see it so positively. "it'll all be going in my mouth so..." he shrugged half-heartedly and slowly wiggled his hands out from her grasp, the only blood he was concerned about was that which would inevitably trickle down from his lips and past his chin but that was easily dealt with. cleaniness was important but devyn's comfort meant more to him, so the bathroom was out of the question. eddie's face contorted in disgust after she brought up the dinner table and he was quick to shake his head, refusing the idea altogether. "no- no we'll just use the bed." he decided against his own initial refusal of the idea. "it'll be better if you're laying down anyway, people faint sometimes and i won't be focused enough to catch you so..." his words trailed off awkwardly and he found himself standing there with little left to say. it was amazing that after so long of being alive, he was still discovering new ways of being uncomfortable.
