By the time word had gotten to her about Nate being at the hospital, Avery barely had time to stop and breathe in the emergency room. One case after another kept her there before she finally made her way to the maternity ward to see their newest member of the family. She spotted Nate in the nursery as she passed, a smile spreading across her face as she came into the room. “Hey, how’s the newest Gardiner doing?”

Classes kept her busy enough, a few weeks passing without seeing her brother around campus. Usually she made a point to at least visit, and let him know she was coming but this one would be a surprise visit. Avery knocked on his door, singsonging his name through the wood. “Oh, Nate.”
