Isabelle was already having a bad day. She arrived to work late and tired. She had run around all morning trying to prepare for the higher ups to come in. One had already complained that his coffee was cold, another that Isabelle talked too much. Now she was trying to keep up with the arguing in the conference room while taking notes. She couldn’t tell what was going on anymore. The final straw for her was when Terry yelled at her and made a sexist statement to her. She was tired of being treated like nothing by her bosses. She left the conference room and went back to her desk, tears rolling down her face.

“Ell? Elliot?” Isabelle tried to the her friend’s attention. He seemed lost in his own head. Was he bothering him again? She needed to help him, but how? She had never really had an interaction with Mr. Robot before. Elliot has only vaguely described him. She could tell Elliot wasn’t Elliot right now though.

Isabelle and Elliot both arrived at work at the same time. They get on the elevator together to go up to the office they work in. Between the 19th and 20th floor, the elevator suddenly stops and the lights flicker. Isabelle’s expression changes from a smile to panic. “What the hell…”

Isabelle laid next to Elliot on his bed. They had stayed quiet for a while, but Isabelle was finding it hard to silence her busy thoughts.

“El…?” She whispered without turning to look at him.

“Okay, open your eyes,” Isabelle says to Elliot softly as she places the birthday cake down on the table in front of him. It was Elliot’s birthday, and Isabelle knew he didn’t want to make a big deal out of it, but she still wanted to do something to make him feel special. She felt he deserved it.
