high school. it was a time of her life that minyoung honestly never thought of. she was never a particularly active student, always choosing to do the bare minimum of what was required to graduate. gone were the days of her wanting to stand out and be the best there ever was. but now that she looked back on it, she was still riding high on the fortunes of her golden past during those years. despite no longer being attached to the name, miae, she certainly put on airs to ensure that those around her knew that she was still just as special. present minyoung was just as embarrassed of her past behavior as teenage minyoung would be to see how fall she'd fallen from her high horse. the little girl who was once being played on the big screen was now collecting tickets and directing viewers to their theaters. but it was better than nothing, right? or so she thought. "eileen roh?" minyoung was startled to have run into a blast from her past; part of her hoped she'd actually been mistaken. "is that seriously you? what on earth are you doing here?"

"cheers!!!" lifting her cup to clink up against the other's was almost a robotic motion at this point. how many drinks had the two managed to go through now? two? three? five?? minyoung couldn't recall. "i think this beach outing thing couldn't have come at a better time for your summer collection!" her words were slurred together to form a messy sentence, loud enough for the entire bar to hear. had it not been for her volume, the excitable thoughts would have been incomprehensible. "and we're soooo lucky that i'm so pretty!!!" after a fit of giggles, minyoung downed the beverage in only a few long sips through her straw. "i'm ready for another! how about you??"

can a girl really stay friends with her ex? minyoung would answer yes without hesitation. of course, it was easy for her to think that way when she could hardly say that she ever harbored any romantic feelings for the other— they were just kids back then, after all. had she ever even uttered the "L" word in his presence? minyoung couldn't recall, but she knew that she at least liked his company and valued his presence in her life. they were comfortable. there was nothing more platonic than being walked home late at night after spending the last two hours sitting next to one another in an empty theater. really. she didn't mind watching every film ever released on her own, but she would also never deny the company of her favorite fellow cinephile. after all, if they hadn't watched it together, minyoung would eventually make her way to vesper lounge to talk eunwoo's ear off about them anyway. but she'd noticed the curious eyes of her co-workers and knew exactly when she was the topic of whispers amongst them. while she would normally pay them no mind, minyoung was increasingly becoming annoyed at the idea of the bar owner catching wind of the gossip and getting the wrong idea regarding their relationship. "you know that i moved, right? very recently. so i may even be in the complete opposite direction of your place." while her words were somewhat hostile, they still left some wiggle room to allow the other to turn back now and change his mind. however, the mild glare in her eyes was a small part of her indirectly communicating that leaving her alone in the dead of night would be a wrong horrible choice. "are you still okay with walking me home?"

"and this is exactly why i chose to stay on the beach!" minyoung whined out. her crying fortunately did not last long before she was rushing to cover her mouth with both hands to avoid the potential mess that threatened to leap out from the depths of her stomach. to say she that wasn't at least somewhat interested in the possibility of a whale sighting would have been a lie. however, she knew her limits, and was beginning to regret not burying herself in the sand back when she had a chance. "how much longer could this possibly take us??"

"i guess that's one way to clear that stage." minyoung commented from behind the other, sipping on her boxed juice without a care in the world. there were so many more productive ways to spend her meal break, yet she often chose to waste it wander around xpixel instead. unfortunately for others, if she wasn't busy amusing herself by playing a few rounds of games on her own, she was judging watching other player's style's instead. "do you like it like that better?"
