karaoke  night.  it  was  her  suggestion  …  she  thought  it  would  be  a  good  idea  for  team  bonding!  however,  looking  at  the  miserable  faces  sat  around  the  small  stage  her  mood  dampens.

that  is  until  anya  steps  up  to  the  mic  and  her  attention  turns  over.  “yes,  it  is  on!”  she  answers,  corners  of  her  lips  tugging  into  a  smile.  she  could  always  count  on  anya  to  play  along,  which  was  why  she  adored  the  child.  “what  will  you  sing?  would  you  like  to  duet?”  she  asks,  half  standing  half  sitting  –   ready  to  join  them  if  they're  suddenly  too  shy  to  be  alone.

ETCHED  ONTO  SOFT  FEATURES  IS  CONCERN  FOR  THE  OTHER  as  head  turns  to  face  her.  she  frowns  for  a  moment,  eyebrows  knitting  together  and  a  hand  raised  up  to  caress  rachel's  cheek.  she  had  almost  believed  her,  if  it  hadn't  been  for  the  fact  she  could  tell  she  was  lying.

regardless,  mantis  complies;  shaking  her  head  slightly  before  lips  press  against  rachel's.  a  hum,  two  beats  and  a  giggle  into  it  —  LOVE  IS  IN  THE  AIR,  quite  literally  above  her  head.  antennae  coming  together  to  form  a  heart,  something  she  can't  quite  control  and  just  a  tad  embarassing.  pulling  away,  she  gazes  upon  her  with  heart-felt  adoration.  ❝  silly…  you  could  have  just  asked  for  a  kiss  without  making  me  worry,  my  love.  ❞

she  isn't  sure  if  it's  a  sudden  rush  of  positive  thinking  or  self-depreciation  but  she  turns  to  them,  tilting  her  head.  “oh…  but  you  are  not  able  to  see  the  future  at  all,  eddie.  how  could  you  have  wanted  to  in  the  first  place?” 

even  she  cannot  see  the  future  —  or  if  she  can,  she  isn't  sure  how.  “you  can  only  live  in  this  moment  right  now…  to  worry  about  the  future  is  to  set  onesself  up  for  miserable  stress.  you  do  not  know  where  you  will  be  in  a  week  from  now..  five  days…  a  minute,  a  second  even.”

gentle  hand  placed  on  their  bicep  with  as  comforting  a  smile  she  can  give.  “you  are  the  you  of  now.  not  the  you  of  the  future,  or  the  you  of  the  past.  this  is  your  first  time  existing,  be  patient  with  yourself.”

she  has  never  felt  such  fear  in  her  life  --   an  exaggeration,  but  really;  what  the  FUCK  was  luna  talking  about.  “luna,  i  know  not  of..  skibidi..  o-or  rizz…  but  i  do  know  that  knee  surgery  is  performed  when  there  is  something  wrong  with  the  knee…  what  is  a  sigma?”  these  words  do  not  make  sense  to  her  whatsoever,  it  feels  as  if  all  of  the  brain  power  she  had  is  suddenly  gone,  sapped  away  by  an  invisible  force.  “are  you  performing  some  sort  of  ritual?  i-i..  i  feel  drained  now..”

hands  are  wrapped  in  vines,  prickly  thorns  and  blooming  rose  petals.  she's  working  on..  something,  when  she  hears  lula's  voice  from  behind  her.  an  antenna  perks  up,  head  tilting  slightly  to  glance  back  at  her. 

it's  almost  a  few  seconds  passed  that  she  realizes  the  question  is  directed  at  her  and  not  —  well,  there  isn't  anyone  else  in  mantis'  room  so  who  else  would  it  be  directed  towards?  “oh..  i  thought…  i  thought  we  were  friends,  already?” 

they  were  teammates,  weren't  they?  that  meant  they  were  automatically  friends!  or  at  least,  she'd  always  thought  of  it  that  way.  "was  that  not  clear  enough?  sorry…  i  must  be  a  bad  friend."  she  frowns,  turning  to  face  her  completely.  “we  are  friends.  do  you  think  we  can  be  friends?”

what  she  did  wasn't  magic  –  not  like  them.  to  normal  humans,  it  was  though.  being  able  to  move  things  with  her  mind,  make  people  bend  to  her  will,  put  people  to  sleep,  grow  flora  out  of  nothing.  it  was  all  magic  to  them.  even  though  it  wasn't.  very  often  she'd  be  asked  about  her  appearance,  why  the  costume?  it  was  off-putting.  but  it  wasn't  a  costume,  she  really  was  just..  not  from  this  world. 

and  somehow,  along  the  way  of  her  journey  here,  she'd  come  across  a  group  of  magicians  and  somewhat  blended  seamlessly  amongst  them.  why?  why  not.  it  was  the  best  way  to  keep  up  whatever  facade  she  was  undergoing  and  it  had  been  them  who'd  contacted  her  first  anyway.

it  was  her  first  time  on  stage  with  them  now  though  and  the  nerves  were  quite  literally  eating  her  alive.  she'd  experienced  plenty  of  pressure  before  under  ego,  but  this  was..  different.  now  an  entire  team  of  highly  skilled  people  were  counting  on  her. 

taking  a  breath,  she  nods  at  danny's  words.  this  was  only  one  mission  out  of  many  that  they'd  eventually  go  on.  of  course  it  was  important,  but  there  was  no  need  to  stress.  “right…  right.  you  are  right.”  she  gives  an  uneasy  smile,  attempting  to  lose  the  anxiety  pooling  in  her  stomach.  “c-can…  would  you  mind  if  i  took  a  bit  of  your  calm  energy?  it  would  help  settle  my  nerves..”

“ hey, how badly are you hurt? can you move? you think you can walk? “ - dylan.

there's  a  ringing  in  her  ears,  vision  blurry  as  she  slowly,  weakly,  lifts  herself  up  from  her  crouched  position.  wobbly  legs  stand  with  a  sway  and  she  frowns,  shaking  off  the  dizzying  feeling.

what  had  just  happened?  she  wasn't  sure,  but  her  attention  turns  to  the  man.  a  blink,  two,  three.  eyebrows  knit  together  as  her  antennae  tilt.  “s-sorry,  yes..  i  can..  i  believe?  i  think  i  am  okay,  just..  shocked?”  it's  more  of  a  question  than  reassurance. 

to  be  completely  honest  all  she  feels  is  pain,  for  once  —  and  it  was  hard  to  achieve  that  physically.  “do  you…  do  you  know  what  happened?”  she  looks  down,  brows  furrowing  further  at  the  sight  of  crimson  staining  her  palms.  “oh..  that  does  not--  that  is  not  good..  is  this  mine?  o-or  yours?  or-”  another  sway.  “maybe  it  is  mine..”
