Yesterday I said the ruins of Angkor Wat were my new favourite historical site. Angkor Wat has now been bested by Preah Vihear, a temple at the top of a mountain. You can still see bullet holes from the conflict with Thailand. Captured with the GH4 using a Lumix 25mm lens. I brought a manfrotto tripod to the top with me so I could shoot at lower stops for the depth of field. There is also a circular polarizer in use. Getting photo coverage from the locals Giving my backup mobile camera to the ever brilliantly talented ms N* is a way of getting new perspectives when travelling. Being lighter and smaller, she is able to get to places and see motives I often miss. And being intuitively good at taking photos, the resulting shots are ovr average good. The Preah Vihear Temple complex is one of Cambodia most precious global cultural heritage sites, and getting around all of it takes time and several visits. Having some assistance from locals is a key to get the most out of a visit here. Preah Vihear Temple Affiliation: Hinduism Deity: Shiva Preah Vihear Temple (Khmer: ប្រាសាទព្រះវិហារ Prasat Preah Vihear) is an ancient Hindu temple built during the period of the Khmer Empire, that is situated atop a 525-metre (1,722 ft) cliff in the Dangrek Mountains, in the Preah Vihear Privince, Cambodia. In 1962, following a lengthy dispute between Cambodia and Thai over ownership, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague ruled that the temple is in Cambodia. Affording a view for many kilometers across a plain, Prasat Preah Vihear has the most spectacular setting of all the temples built during the six-century-long Khmer Empire. As a key edifice of the empire's spiritual life, it was supported and modified by successive kings and so bears elements of several architectural styles. Preah Vihear is unusual among Khmer temples in being constructed along a long north-south axis, rather than having the conventional rectangular plan with orientation toward the east. The temple gives its name to Cambodia's Preah Vihear province, in which it is now located, as well as the Khao Phra Wihan National Park which borders it in Thailand's Sisaket province and through which the temple is most easily accessible.
