Jill spins on her heels to find the source of the voice addressing her, and sees someone standing before her. They look human, but not...exactly, and it's clear by their physical condition they've been through hell themselves. She's cautious, sizing the stranger up, but not yet reaching for her weapon.

"You've been watching me," Jill observes plainly and calmly. Evidently, there are other actors at play here. She wonders if the stranger might be an undercover operative, or a B.O.W. sent to kill her by Los Illuminados, the KGB or some remnant of the Spencer family or Umbrella Corporation, but she's never seen a B.O.W. display such obvious sapience before: Typically they're uncontrollable shambling monstrosities, or soldiers programed to obey orders without question with no free will of their own.

She decides to take a chance, slowly beginning to raise her hands, but not keeping them far from her holster.

"May I ask who you are, and why you're following me?" Jill asks carefully and politely.

It's a scene of hellish chaos as the B.O.W. army fires round after round of incendiary ammo and lobs grenade after grenade at the ramshackle wooden structure Ashley and Ethan have taken cover in. Fire rages and the ground is rocked by explosions as timbers burn and buckle around them. Ashley begins to cry out:

"Ethan! Look out! The building is about to..."

Before she can finish her thought or even process what's happening, Ashley feels the wind knocked out of her by a bodily tackle shoving her clear of the collapsing inferno.

Dazed, she looks up at her savior and finds Ethan on top of her.

After a moment to regain her bearings, Ashley nervously breaks the silence.

Morgana doesn't say much or anything, really, when Ren almost squishes him by restlessly rolling over. He makes some annoyed noises under his breath and begins reaching a clawed paw over only to freeze abruptly when they themselves seem to echo a whine or two just as quietly before trying to curl into themselves. It's... not the first time he's witness to such and, with a heavy heart, he also knows it's not the last one. Instead of giving them a rude awakening for nearly flattening him, Morgana decides to wiggle his way into Ren's arms and let a soft purring noise rumble through him before closing his eyes. They have a long day ahead of them -- rest is of utmost importance.

Morgana first put their human on record as being a restless sleeper by nature. He wasn't aware that it was the visits to the Velvet Room during their days in Tokyo that would have Ren tossing and turning in the night, sometimes even moreso than the nightmares.

The cat-shaped being learns when Ren's journey as trickster is over, that Ren is actually someone who typically sleeps like a rock.

Even their nightmares are often silent... only evident to have occurred after they have ended, when Ren would come to suddenly, thrashing or shouting. But Morgana is always there to catch them when they aren't, as Ren starts to twitch or cry.

When Morgana nudges his way under Ren's arm and against his chest, Ren once again stirs, his arm tucking the cat closer as if he were a stuffed animal. (Ren now cuddles with Morgana even more than his star doll from childhood.) Morgana will tolerate being squished, with having his fur tussled beyond what his tongue can mend... because it's Ren — his best friend.

With the warmth of another body close to them, and Morgana's diligent purring, Ren's small sounds gradually quiet until they stop altogether. Soon, Ren starts resembling a person again instead of a ball of knives. If they continue to have bad dreams, Morgana is none the wiser... as the human has settled down.

Tomorrow, they'll take care of Alice. Morning will come soon... but at least for now, for tonight, there's peace.

Jill's Bioterrorism Task Force was swiftly mobilized in a black ops mission to shut it down, making quick work of the staff and B.O.W. guards. On one of her final sweeps Jill was surprised to find a young girl hiding in a corner, cowering in fear.

From what the girl was saying, Jill could surmise she was one of the experiments who had somehow managed to escape. Internally furious at people so amoral and unethical they'd experiment on a child, Jill keeps her composure and kneels down to comfort the child.

"Hey, it's OK," she begins in a soft, soothing voice. "I'm sorry if I scared you, but I promise I won't take you back there. My friends and I want to stop those bad people who hurt you. My name is Jill: What's yours, sweetie?"

Ashley doesn't really lie? I hate lying IRL and never do it so my characters tend not to either. Does deep cover count as a lie?

Ashley is the kind of girl who will try to make friends with everybody. Some of it is part of her job as she is a diplomat-in-training and recognizes the importance of networking and mingling at social events. But that doesn't mean she can't naturally enjoy and be good at it, and there's a real sincerity in it for her.

She became a bit more reserved after Valedelobos due to her trauma causing her to latch onto Jill and cloistering up with S.T.A.R.S.: It's one of those things where once you're in you're in and that kind of becomes your new social circle. But even so, Ash is still the girl at every party who will walk up to a stranger to make sure they're feeling OK and are having a good time: She's a natural-born hostess.

Ashley's family is Dutch Canadian, though Ashley herself is pretty solidly assimilated. I made this choice for two reasons: One, I never did like the "president's daughter" thing in RE4/RE4make and think she's a more compelling character if she's more ordinary, closer to Fiona (though I'm willing to do AUs with her where she still is). And two, as a tribute to her RE4make face model, Ella Freya, and her voice/mocap actress, Genevieve Buechner.
