Idk I am just of the opinion that it doesn't really make Sense for Sniper tf2 to go by the name "Mun-dee Mundy" because his parents would have given him a different name (in-universe, the New Zealand naming convention with the hyphens, which is an homage to the Kryptonian naming convention in Superman, is decidedly not the Australian naming convention) and he would have gone by that name for his entire life. In the same way it just does not make sense to have Sniper begin identifying primarily as someone from New Zealand at this point in his life, it does not make sense to imagine him adopting the name his birth parents gave him when he literally did not know they existed until he was like thirty years old. Yknow, unless you think adopted parents aren't "real parents", in which case that's on you

I know there’s an important election approaching — and I want to see Republicans gone as much as the next sane human being — but NO, despite what Joe Biden says, people are still dying and the pandemic is not “over” just because antivaxxers throw tantrums and cannot be bothered to take even the most basic of precautions to prevent COVID’s spread. America has the most vaccines available, but the lowest vaccinated population of similarly “advanced” Western countries. Biden could have simply said nothing, but apparently he cannot resist capitulating to the right. This was an idiotic pronouncement done for purely political purposes, and it needlessly prolongs the pandemic and unnecessarily puts the elderly, immunocompromised people and frontline workers at risk.

The pandemic has shifted — and normalcy has returned in many ways — but it is not over.

Why Mr. Biden said otherwise is obvious. The midterm elections are coming, and Americans feel an overwhelming sense of fatigue.

…But the pandemic is surely not over. The seven-day moving average of daily deaths in the United States is nearly 400 and has plateaued at this terrible level since April. The average of new daily cases is 60,000, way higher than in the spring. Weighed down by the virus, average life expectancy of Americans fell in 2020 and 2021, the sharpest two-year decline in nearly 100 years. Covid-19 is the third-leading cause of death in the United States after heart disease and cancer. Long covid — those suffering a constellation of maladies after the immediate symptoms dissipate — threatens millions of people.

Mr. Biden has not ended the official pandemic emergency. When the official emergency ends, some 15 million will lose Medicaid coverage; the reason for a student loan repayment pause will end; the rationale for Trump-era border restrictions, still held in place by a court, will disappear. All this policy transition must not be done carelessly or hastily.

Perhaps the biggest worry stemming from Mr. Biden’s comment is that it will further undermine political resolve in Congress to keep up the fight against covid. Already, Mr. Biden’s request for additional funding for vaccines, diagnostic testing and therapeutics has languished. If complacency and fatigue continue to take over, the nation won’t be prepared for a new variant just when it is most needed. “The pandemic is over” sounds nice, so desperately welcome. But we are not there, yet.

so um I wrote a snippet for chinese older wolfstar but am feeling ambivalent about posting again because in the space of the last 30 minutes I went from feeling vague affection for the culture back to "god what the fuck why do I try". again.
