a little close was an understatement, in her opinion at least.   “  i want to say no, just so you won’t ever try that again,  ”   she sighs. he’s right, but she’s not sure if that was an entirely valid justification either.   “  ... but, of course it did.  ”   ...  always does.

“  i was beginning to wonder if anyone was coming for me,  ”   she says as she manifests into a physical form through the force.  she’s teasing,  with that smile on her face. she’s  always  teasing,  especially when one of  anakin’s plans  has her  dropped and forgotten  on the ground,  as per usual   (  —  of which,  he was never going to hear the end of.  )   besides,  she could still  feel  her jedi,  and  he was fine  ...  always was.

in a way, she was an extension of him  —  she could feel what he did, they became one in battle, and she was always at his side. her loyalty was to him above all else, so it’s with the utmost sincerity   (  though perhaps a courtesy as well  )   when she asks,   “  how are you feeling ?  ”

“  i’ve been alone for a long periods of time, too,  ”   she says gently, trying to reassure the other what she felt was only natural. she may not be rey’s lightsaber anymore   (  in a way it was like passing the mantel  )   but she could still feel her energy, her hesitations and worries.   “  if you ever need or want to talk about it, i’m here for you.   ”   

she glances toward rey’s own lightsaber briefly. no one could predict a jedi and their lightsaber’s relationship.   “  i’m sure they just need more time; there’s no rules or guide to this sort of thing.  ”

it had been a long time since she felt this, held by a force - sensitive, even if it felt weak ... no, that wasn’t the right word ... suppressed.   (  she understood that much herself, and wonders briefly if it’s for the same reason  )   but even still, it was distinctive. she knew that feeling; one felt in luke, felt in anakin, now again. is this what she’d been waiting all this time for ?

she manifests beside him as her metal counterpart still lies in his hand, knowing full well her impatience was getting the best of her   (  she knows who she gets that from )   but she’d waited this long already.   “  leia’s or luke’s ?  ”  she asks with a soft smile, curious above anything else.

“  if anyone can do the impossible,  i suppose it’s anakin,  ”   she smiles at her fellow lightsaber.  despite the joke at his expense,  her faith in him was unshaken.   “  but i don’t mind sticking around to hear the lecture he’ll get from obi - wan...  ”   she jests.

“  i was thinking the exact same thing,  ”   kara says,  slight smirk growing on her face.  it’s a familiar situation,  and feeling all at once :  a plan gone wrong with desperate need of improvisation;  and,  one of the clone wars,  considering anakin and her had been here many,  many  times before.   (  perhaps the two of them here  were  a perfect pair after all,  even despite her kyber heart not entirely intended for him the way she thought.  )   “  we... wouldn’t want to  overstay our welcome,  right?  ”

she thought she understood her purpose;  her role to the force,  to the jedi ... to anakin.   (  this weapon is your life.  )   to be his one true ally,  to protect those who can’t protect themselves,  to serve as a guide,  a conduit  —  those were the things every kyber crystal dreams of before they are truly awake.  SHE IS LIGHT,  her heart born in the caves of ilum imbued with it and only it;  waiting for the day she would call to the jedi she would faithfully serve side by side by. and so she called,  impatiently and passionately,  much like the boy who built her.  they were a perfect fit.

yes,  she simply was light,  but that didn’t mean she was ignorant to the dark,  not when she felt it lingering in the distance or sent the occasional shiver down her spine. but she trusted the force,  she trusted anakin,  and this was a war.  she was built in it,  turmoil was all she knew.  she understood good intentions alone wouldn’t win the freedom they fought so hard for, and so,  it became easier and easier to look past when gathering information skewed toward the beginnings of torture,  or when bodies fell instead of seeing trial  —  because it was necessary. it was for the greater good,  and for peace.  wasn’t it? 

“  of course i do,  ”   she quickly reassures.   “  i would follow you to the end of the galaxy. no matter what.  ”   (  and she means it.  )

“  artoo ?  ”   she questions, eyes light and lips curving into a small smile. to be entirely honest, she was never certain he could see her   (  was  process  the right word ?  )   but she hoped he could. or what if someone wiped his memories along the way? it had been a long time, after all ... too long.   “  is ... that you ?  ”
