she tugs on the sleeves of her sweater,   enough to cover bare knuckles as the sun finally begins to set and the air around them grows colder.    it’s different,    she still can’t get used to the chill that bites at her skin where her coat would have been,   and she hates that feeling         —         having a gap where something should be filled.    it remains missing,   a puzzle piece she would never be able to find.    out of the corner of her eye she spots helio,   and a smile tugs on the ends of her lips.         ❝    mmm,   that’s not true.    there’s   uhhhhh    . . .    ❞         she doesn’t mean to take too long,   but her drawn out hum is now filling the silence that threatens to interrupt and she bites down on her bottom lip,   turning to face him as she gestures wildly.         ❝    d   -   no.    m   -   no.    ❞         toe of her boot kicks at a pile of twigs in her way,   muttering under her breath as she watches the coyote follow stiles,   cautious movements circling him as she means to   guard   him.         ❝    helio   likes you.    and she hates everyone.    ❞         stepping closer,   she reaches out to tug on the front of his shirt,         ❝    well,   i do like you a lot.    enough to count for a   ton   of people.    and they’re missing out,   if that’s the case.    idiots.    ❞
