john's vessel is failing. by this i mean the man lucifer possessed is dying. he'll eventually need a new body, but until this one truly dies he'll keep it around. he used to body hop a lot, to prevent folks from wearing out as his vessels but since becoming a lawyer he's needed to keep the same vessel for longer.

As a child, after her parents passed away, Ella endured a lot of physical abuse from her stepfamily. She was told it was the only way to make sure she stayed in line. If she didn't finish a task on time or to her stepmother's approval she would be beaten and sent to bed without supper. If she was caught trying to eat just scraps she would be beaten again.

She did try running away one time and was brought back. The reason her stepmother kept her around was because she was ( mostly ) free labor. As long as she was fed, clothed, and had a bed she figured it was payment enough to serve them. For her disobedience, she was nearly choked to death by her stepmother.

She doesn't like showing her skin much, especially her back as that is where the majority of her scaring is, and the day she marries she is terrified of her spouse seeing the scars. She knows she is a broken person and knows that her spouse might be repulsed by what they might see. So she wears nightgowns that cover her well until her spouse makes her comfortable enough in her body.

In AUs where she marries well ( whether modern or fantasy/era ) she is still ridiculed and has been poisoned ( or in the case of @farspirit's and my AU, kidnapped ) a time or two because others don't see her as a worthy partner to her spouse.

Because of the beatings she's endured, she does have issues keeping her pregnancies and the miscarriages she endures put her into a depression for a time.

Through it all, though, she will still smile at you and help you.

when daenerys was a child, she would often hold her own hand as a self-comfort mechanism because there was no one there to comfort her, and for her whole life, leading up to her marriage to drogo (and for some time afterward), she was afraid. even prior to the eviction from ser willem darry's estate, she was frightened by viserys' paranoid whispers about ruthless assassins and the usurper's dogs coming after them. so, daenerys developed the coping mechanism of holding her own hand, whether she was standing or sitting or curled up, awaiting sleep. often, it manifested as her clasping her fingers together before her, locking them on her lap, or weaving them together beneath a cheek/against her lips/atop her tummy (to release tension before falling asleep). this coping mechanism persisted for most of her life . . . up until she began feeling more established in her sense of comfort/sense of self among the dothraki. she still does it occasionally before sleeping, clasping her hands together and resting her cheek on top of them, but that isn’t necessarily from fear. instead, it arises from the need for comfort . . . for salvation from the immense loneliness.

regarding the car accident

it happened when vasily was coming home from celebrating nikolai's birthday. they had gone out with some friends and gotten drunk. it was... pretty much what they always do for their birthdays, since nikolai turned 18. it was nothing out of the ordinary. but this time vasily trusted a friend that he was sober enough to drive... he was not. nikolai had gone home with someone else, so he wasn't in the car with them. the accident happened quickly, leading to vasily's left arm getting pinned. the others in the car did survive, thought vasily is no longer friends with them. ( his father also wanted to sue the driver but ended up settling ).

afterwards, he was taken to the nearest hospital and unfortunately, his arm had to be amputated at his elbow. it also left him with heavy ptsd from the occurrence. alexander was able to get him the best care, which included his various therapies and prosthetic arm. he was in the hospital for a few months and total care time was about a year, maybe a little more.

In proprietress verse this could become R.ya's symbol of power - descendant, in possession of weapon that activates by presence of the serpent.
