💤 + kireek *cheerleader jump*
i'm not entirely sure if casts need sleep, and the thought might be unsettling to kireek since as an assassin he'd be hypervigilant of everything around him. so whenever they’re on a particularly long or grueling mission, kireek will sit watch next to marian while they sleep, making sure to eliminate any potential threats as silently as possible… if marian absolutely must take a rest, then nothing should come to disturb them while they do so - it’s cowardly and pathetic to attack someone so vulnerable! their enemies should be ashamed of being so weak.
marian wishes they could do the same for kireek, but there’s no need for that, he assures them. ‘just focus on getting stronger. i can handle them myself,’ he would say. he might get a little offended — protecting them is his job. not out of obligation, of course, but he can’t leave them be until the moment their souls clash in a heated battle… or something homoerotic like that

miscellaneous pso writings. well, i say writings, but they're more like stream of consciousness bs i typed up a few months ago when my hyperfixation was in full swing after i finished episode i. if this breaches containment: SELF INSERT X CANON DON'T LIKE DON'T LOOK
1)
kireek's presence early on keeps marian feeling uneasy instead of safe more often than not, especially after learning he's involved in black paper - they want to let themselves grow close to him, to let their curiosity get the better of them, but they know it's a bad idea given him and his partner's… activities. getting involved with not one but TWO assassins isn't the brightest idea for their safekeeping. they realize kireek and sue watch over them, kireek watching them more for his own gain, waiting for the right moment when they're strong enough to face in combat to give him a thrill. kireek is a bit obsessed with marian, he doesn't exactly experience love in the traditional, 'normal' way, being born from violence, created to kill. in contrast to sue having a semblance of kindness despite her occupation, her watching over marian, in a position of opposition to them yet knowing her feelings will get in the way, kireek gradually develops these feelings that are abnormal for someone not of flesh and blood it's after the explosion in ragol's underground that kireek lets himself feel something resembling concern for marian. he knows it's not his prerogative to be worried about someone he should consider his prey. he tells himself it's so marian can live to fight another day, to grow into something matching his levels of violence. he hopes of finally being able to devour their soul, to consume them whole and be satisfied with the sound of their bones crunching underneath his grip, the exhilarating feeling of leaving them nothing but a crimson stain on the floor - and in his memories but in the hospital room on pioneer 2, kireek wonders whether it would fulfill him, if he really would be happy after marian is gone - what would be left for him? he would be back to routine, attempting to fill the void with odd jobs provided by the hunter’s guild. kireek sits and waits, looking for a sign of consciousness from marian, but it’s getting late and he swears the hospital staff keep looking at him, just waiting for him to leave. he doesn’t sleep - he can’t sleep, unless a programmed facsimile of the act of sleeping itself counts - so he decides to take his leave, looking back at the hospital bed one last time before exiting the room. when marian awakes, a nurse standing at the foot of their bed informs them of the android that came to visit every day. they should be unsettled, at least that’s what their conscience tells them knowing that kireek was the one waiting for them, but it gives them a strange sense of comfort. kireek has carved a hole out of marian’s heart to nestle himself in, with the same blade that he uses to snuff out the lives of others - perhaps he could use his hands to protect as well.
2 (unfinished)
marian, being a force-type class, is more fragile than the average human. beings of flesh and blood are already inherently less durable than androids such as kireek, and marian’s health only serves to widen the vast gap between their strength and skill.
it’s in the forest that this difference in power becomes evident. marian struggles to keep up, fumbling and missing every time they swing their staff. the beasts of ragol are a vicious sort, and kireek doesn’t want to be responsible for any harm that may come to his partner. not out of any sort of concern, of course, but pragmatism. with marian’s lack of experience, one hit from a savage wolf could have them dead on the ground. if they were going to make it through this assignment, they could stand to learn basic combat skills.
kireek tells marian to stop what they’re doing and pay attention. he’s only going to show them once — he doesn’t want to waste a valuable lesson on someone who may very well become a liability. “listen and watch closely,” he says. “our fighting styles may be different, but the pattern for hitting the enemy’s weak spots is roughly the same.” kireek drops into a wide stance, holding his scythe a ways out from his body. his grip is firm but not too tight, allowing him to control the weapon effortlessly as if it were a part of him. marian observes kireek as he moves, taking in each finite gesture. every push and pull of his legs as he maneuvers his body, every flex of his arms – it’s simply exhilarating just to watch. they fear that if they tear their eyes off of him for a second, he could lose himself in the heat of battle against his imaginary enemy.
he swings once, twice, then brings his blade down in one sweep, cutting the previously still air.
