           she stepped carefully towards him so that she would not startle while he was attending to the plants in the courtyard garden, her wool cloak brushing against the loose dirt and plants. while most of her attention was focused on the rest of the stable, she couldn’t ignore her own mare, who had been unusually under the weather as of lately and none of her usual remedies were working. still, there weren’t many she knew who would know anything and the chantry sisters claimed they had no idea what to do with a horse.

            ‘ good morning. ‘ she’d practiced a few times, asking dennet the signs for horse and medicine before she approached and she could only hope it was enough. ‘ can i sit? ‘

             ‘ torment? what could you possibly know about torment? ‘ maybe it was the closer quarters of skyhold that had pushed them towards arguing more, but regardless, his words had her bristling in a way that very few could do. her head tipped momentarily towards the second floor of the stable where she knew the stablemaster or the warden could be lingering before moving closer so they wouldn’t hear every word.

             ‘ i have done nothing but keep my head down and do my part, and yet you are still always here, even though you and i both know you have no real fondness for horses or riding. so perhaps you only have yourself to blame. ‘

               she couldn’t help but let out a snort at that, her head turned momentarily towards the inquisitor’s as the wind whipped both their hair. though skyhold had offered much work for both of them, dennet had insisted she get fresh air, away from the sawdust of the stable being rebuilt. and she had a kind of sense for who needed a ride just as much as she did.

               ‘ and here i thought you and your companions found it fun. ‘ rowena remarked, turning her head back towards the rocky hills. ‘ do you think you’ll do much of it once this is all over? ‘
