“Ryand'r. On Earth, I have taken up Wildfire for it is easier to pronounce for the humans.”

Where and when were you born?

“Within the castle of Tamaran, after my 2 sisters. The war was still going.”

Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)

“Myand'r, the Grand Ruler of Tamaran, and Luand'r, his wife. He was a very good ruler, I believe. Very strong and confident and loud enough to convince the people. And mother was great, always supporting him, very caring for us children… but perhaps those descriptions are more wishful thinking than anything else, from me. I have not been many years at home so these might be images of them, and not truly how they were.”

Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?

“I have not been with them for a long time, until recently. Blackfire has apparently become evil, she seems to always be acting with the intention to bring Starfire suffering or harm. I am very sorry that it has come to this. Starfire is wonderful. She is so happy and strong and open… she makes me happy and feel welcomed and she always helps people and likes to learn new things.”

Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.

“I don’t really have a living place. I am often staying with friends, sometimes in the T-Tower for example, but it… would feel wrong to get myself my own home here.”

What is your occupation?

“I don’t have any! I am learning about Earth, and enjoying the friendships that I can make here, as… as long as I can.”

“I have lighter skin than the typical tamaranean. I have red hair and blue eyes, and I am almost all the time wearing a tamaranean armor that I have possessed for many many years, as well as a similar cloak.”

“I don’t know of social classes.”

Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?

“I am rather certain that I am weaker than the default tamaranean, although perhaps that is merely because of me thinking so. I am also unable to do the language-assimilation that all tamaraneans are capable of.”

Are you right- or left-handed?

“I think I prefer the left hand.”

What does your voice sound like?

“Um… an odd question. I am not as loud or strong in my voice as I should be.”

What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?

“I am still learning the earthen languages, so if there are words or phrases I use more frequently than others, it is simply because I do not know another way of saying something. I cannot think of any word or phrase in specific, though.”

What do you have in your pockets?

“A small notebook and a pencil, here. Some money that the people sometimes insist on giving me. This… is a letter. And a communicator, of the Titans.”

Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?

“Perhaps my stuttering with the earthen languages can be defined as this. I cannot think of anything else.”

PART 2: GROWING UP

How would you describe your childhood in general?

“… I did not have much of it. Not in a typical way. I was sent away from home very early to preserve the royal bloodline for the case that the war would have gone worse, ... and I could not afford being a child after that.”

What is your earliest memory?

“My mother. She was carrying me with her in flight, and singing a song to me.”

How much schooling have you had?

“I did not have much of the typical learning. But I have taken care to learn many things from scrolls and books that the… that I had where I was after Tamaran.”

Did you enjoy school?

“I didn’t experience it for much time. But I think yes, I did.”

Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?

“By training them myself. I… I was on my own a lot of my time.”

While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.

“My father. I knew I was to follow in his footsteps eventually, and so I have always admired him. …”

While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?

“I was not with them very long. I loved my mother and Kori dearly, and I believe they returned such. With what I know of Ari by now, I am uncertain about my connection to her back then.”

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

“There was never the question of what I wanted. I knew my destiny.”

“… I don’t know. I lived alone most of the time. I think I was focused on what I was required to do.”

“It was… once I came to Earth. I wasn’t aware of my inability yet since I left Tamaran before it would be tried, and I was hoping to learn the earthen language faster this way. It was with Hay Lin (aerokinesiiss), she has helped me a lot even before we could talk with the other understanding, and I explained it to her. It was… very wonderful, even if it also showed me that I cannot learn the languages in the typical tamaranean way.”

“I try to be friendly, and polite. Regardless of if I know them or not.”

“Now? Starfire. It was Will (skymade) for a long time, although I was convinced that I had only made her up to have company during my loneliness.”

“Galfore. He is so strong, so capable, he is a good successor of father.”

“I don’t know about a best friend. Is it something you must discuss and agree on? I love all my friends much. They are too many to describe.”

“I don’t have that, no.”

“I don’t want anyone who uses too much violence. Be friendly, help others, have the patience to understand me despite my language difficulties. But, really, the only thing I really want is to love and be loved equally. ... To not be alone anymore.”

“I am growing closer again to Starfire with every time that we meet again. With Blackfire, I doubt that it is possible to grow close to her.”

“… It is a nice idea. But I haven’t yet, and I fear doing so. It is difficult, when I will not be able to stay here, when I am often still unsure about understanding my own emotions, and… and the risk of getting a child is also very big.”

“All my friends. And Galfore. Because I know they would do the same for me as I would do for them. I believe Galfore has also sworn it to our father.”

“… I don’t know. I was missing for a long time. I think Starfire would miss me. Perhaps my other friends as well, although I would not want anyone to suffer from missing me.”

“I don’t despise anyone. ... Perhaps the Gordanians, but none in specific.”

“I avoid arguing. It is not something I enjoy.”

“I don’t know. I like the less strong ones; is it called pastel?”

“I don’t have a favourite. I’m still learning about the varieties of food.”

“I read many things to learn the languages. If I could understand it easier, I think I would like to read stories that take me into a different world, into a fantasy.”

“As long as I am not alone, I can enjoy it. It is not the entertainment that truly matters to me, it is the company.”

“It is not different from the routine of everyone, I assume. Waking, preparing, eating, doing something, eating, perhaps doing something more and eating again, and then prepare for and go to sleep. How I feel about it depends on if the disruption is pleasant.”

“… I don’t think I have any.”

“How much not-tamaranean I am.”

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

“I… I don’t know. Maybe I would make myself more tamaranean. Braver, louder, stronger, more confident. More like father was.”

Oh Ry, my poor sweet little Ry. All that I really would need to give him as advice, though I know that it won’t help a thing, is that he needs to stop thinking so low of himself. He needs to understand and accept that he is capable, that his differences to the typical tamaranean might even be good for a change for a Ruler, that there is nothing wrong with being different.

At first, this seemed like just another mission the Titans - even if more of them now simply due to the scale of this alien attack - were doing every now and then. This wasn't the first time that Ryand'r witnessed the Earth being at stake, and he was thankful that his task usually was to bring people to safety.

Now, though, among the communication through open channel during the fight, they seemed to learn something from these aliens that somehow resembled earthen grasshoppers a lot, just in very much bigger (and apparently with some form of green electricity shooting off their 'arms'). Among hectic chatter in the channel, Ryand'r's communicator beeped with a direct message from Starfire, and he connected to her call instead almost instantly. "Ry, are you safe?" "Yes, I have brought some civilians to one of your safe houses and activated the defense mode. They will be well." "Oh, I am most happy to hear that! They seem to are holding an interest in you, so please make certain to stay where you are!" Hearing this, Wildfire gasped lightly, but tried not to sound any different to Starfire. "T-the people will be safe. Do not worry." He then canceled the call before Starfire could say anything else, and balled his hands to fists.

"They are here for me," Wildfire then explained to Irma when she asked what was wrong, his expression now a lot more afraid than before the call. This wasn't just another mission of the Titans. It was something much, much worse. "I can't let this happen again." Another home, destroyed because someone wanted him but he wasn't there? No, he couldn't bear the thought, much less so with Starfire and so many wonderful friends being here on this world. "I have to go out there." There was no way around it. He was afraid, very much so, and it was hard to tell what they wanted of him, but if the alternative was risking that another home of his would end in ruins, his decision was easy. Irma seemed to understand, not even trying to talk him out of it, but instead offering something. "No." Her meaning was clear, accompanied by a gentle squeezing of his hand, but, Wildfire couldn't help his initial response. "I... You can't come with me... They..." He paused, realizing that he wasn't exactly able to make predictions about these enemies. But anyone willing to fight and attack a whole planet clearly wouldn't hesitate to cause harm. "But... I don't want to see you get hurt."

Having been invited to go watch a movie with Irma, Wildfire happily agreed. Not only was he going to get some more time to spend with Irma, it would mean he could also see another movie. Movies were fascinating, there seemed to be way too many to ever watch and there seemed to be categories, and of those, there was little Wildfire had watched so far.

The movie was a funny one, not too tense or bad, and like usual in cinemas they - along with the other people watching it - were quiet throughout most of it. Right now was a bit of a break in the happenings, though, and Wildfire looked over to Irma's suggestion, and smiled.

"I'd like that, yes! Hot chocolate is wonderful!" And it was more popular these days, probably because of the season, or something.

First hearing the question, Wildfire looked at Irma confused. How could one borrow a kiss? It wasn't like it was an object? But before he even thought about asking, she added something that made it clear what she meant, he chuckled slightly flustered. "Of course!"

He had already been 'introduced' to - what was the word... flirts - so it wasn't confusing now, but, well, Wildfire assumed some things just got lost in translation. Perhaps it was partly coming from him using the translation device very often instead of talking without it? ... No, that couldn't be, surely it couldn't. He couldn't consider that, he wanted to keep using it. He would probably never be the one to say things like that - even if such things existed in tamaranean, he would probably not be the type to use them - but that didn't mean he couldn't appreciate flirts once he understood them. Now, of course, he smiled widely at her (blushing a little too) and leaned in for the 'requested' kiss.

Going to sleep when everything was still routinely 'normal' outside, and waking up to absolutely everything being white and so much more calm and silent - how amazing that was everytime. It felt like magic, even though Wildfire did know about snow and that it was a normal, although in some areas very rare, part of the earthen weather; and somehow that it happened in a night that he got to stay at Irma's place made it feel even more special. They looked out of the window for a little while once they noticed, and after a few moments, Irma made this suggestion.

Blinking in surprise, he looked over to her, tilting his head slightly. "Oh! Are you cold?" Snow only did happen when it was cold after all, and though they were inside, that wasn't always meaning that it was warm enough too! "I can warm you without a blanket too!" As he said this, he let his hands glow just very very slightly, to hopefully only create a little bit of additional warmth (though he probably was warmer than she was already even without his energy) and nothing too hot or worse even painful, and offered his hands out to her.

He felt bad for not considering immediately that she might be cold when it was cold enough outside for snow! Even if he couldn't feel the cold himself, that was no reason to not think of it when he had a friend with him that was apparently feeling cold enough to voice the need for going back under a blanket! ... Oh. Unless she wasn't saying it simply for the sake of warmth, but also the comfort of a blanket and perhaps also simply the being close to someone? That was very warming in a different way than temperature, after all. Now somewhat sheepishly, he nodded quickly. "Yes, curling up under the blanket is a great idea!"

The guardian shot the question back to him as she was covering her newfound zit near her nose with her jacket. She can’t allow her crush to see her like this. What will he think? What will he say? Has he ever seen a zit before? Does he know what it is or what it looks like? So many questions are swarming around in Irma’s mind. “We’ll have to hang out some other time, Ry. I’m sorry..”

Her answer didn't really help. Clearly something was up, he noticed that she behaved oddly, and he just had to ask. Now that she wasn't actually explaining though, he worried even more, but when she suggested to hang out another time, he frowned yet nodded. "I understand. Do not feel sorry, I am sure you have a reason." And he wasn't exactly one to keep bugging her for the reason or to insist they could still hang out, so he did turn around to leave her be. He then had one thing he felt the need to clarify though, so he turned back to her.

"You are not saying that because you are sick, no? If it is because of a sickness, you don't need to worry. Starfire has told me that it is very rare if not impossible for us to catch the earthen sicknesses." Though she was probably only talking from her experience, and it might always be that he was simply different in that regard, but he still would've wanted to suggest an option for them to still spend time together.

Going around houses to collect candy when in costume was... a fascinating earthen tradition. It didn't seem like it made much sense, because why would you get candy just because you're wearing a costume, and was that a threat when one said 'trick or treat'? - but, Wildfire tried to not think too deeply into the earthen festivities. Especially not when he was invited to join in on them.

Here he was, dressed in costume as well as Irma was, and going from house to house together with her. They got a decent amount of candy already, and when Irma complained about their recent loot, he checked to confirm that he had gotten a toothbrush too. Still, it didn't seem like such a bad thing to Wildfire.

"Maybe he merely meant well? This tradition is intended to give much candy, and it is important to brush your teeth if you eat a lot of candy, no?"

Earth's festivities were wonderful. There were so many, it often seemed like there always was something they celebrated - not unlike what little bits he remembered of Tamaran, but here, much less of the celebrations were done as agressively as he remembered it from his home. Perhaps that was also a case of him not remembering enough, but, he definitely felt more at ease - and happy - about the earthen festivities, in most cases. This fair that they went to was really fun too, they had these great pumpkins and all the food stalls and the likes, and as they approached now, a Haunted House too.

Wildfire instinctively hesitated when reading the big letters announcing what it was, and Irma was quick to understand his worry and reassure him. He tilted his head lightly in response.

"They aren't? But isn't that exactly what they are made for?" It certainly looked like it was intending to be scary.

Having spend too much time hanging out, it was very late by the time that Irma and Wildfire were on their way back home. Or, more on their way to bring Irma home, because Wildfire didn't really have a set place he went to every night, but, that wasn't the point here.

To her words, Wildfire's gaze went skywards too, and he nodded as he admired the stars. "It is. I most enjoy looking to the stars. It makes me feel closer to home." Even though there was a lot that made him dread going home, it still felt nice to think of it and feel connected. Looking back to Irma, he realized something. It was night, after all.

"Are you not cold? Nights are often a lot colder, no?" He didn't feel it thanks to being tamaranean, but he was worried that by spending time with her so long he was now making her feel cold while walking home.

To be fair, she couldn't have known. A few days ago when they were in a mall, Wildfire had almost downirght stared at this one particular heap of plushies in one of the stores. He thought it had gone unnoticed, but now that Irma had cheerily held out one of the plushies to him, it was clear that she had noticed and thought he liked it but didn't want to buy it or perhaps that he didn't have the money himself.

Staring at the shockingly accurate recreation of a Shalla (how could they get so close? Surely Earth didn't know these creatures) for a few seconds, all the emotions bubbled back up within an instant and Wildfire simply couldn't explain or even say anything. He had left in a rush, without even uttering a 'sorry' or anything, running out and then flying off, and it was now hours later that Irma - somehow - found him again. He was sitting at the edge of a cliff, somewhere far off of the cities and within nature, with a cave somewhere over there in the distance. It was reminding him of his long-time 'home', which was both painful and at the same time somehow calming, and he had been angrily crying and shouting and punching the ground a few times during the hours he spent here alone. Now he was simply sitting and looking into the distance when she approached, and talked to him from a bit away, perhaps afraid he would run away again if she'd get closer.

Glancing back slightly, Wildfire curled up on himself a little more from the guilt he felt for leaving her standing like that. "I'm sorry," he said quietly, something within him stopping him from turning and looking at her properly. He did the swift motion of activating the translation device through his communicator, knowing that if he wanted to explain anything, it would only be possible through this because there was no way he would be able to ignore the emotions long enough to both explain and translate it. "I... I just..." He was silent for a few more moments to figure out just what to say. He hadn't exactly told her anything about his past yet - it was always painful to talk about, and he didn't want to make anyone feel bad for him. It was understandable that she would wish for him to open up at least a bit, they spent a good amount of time together already after all. They definitely were good friends. She deserved to know a bit about him. "That plush toy... it is very similar to an alien species that I know. Knew."

A little corner at the beach, with a view of the Tower and a little difficult to access thus barely any people were here, Wildfire enjoyed just sitting at the shore here every now and then. Perhaps Starfire had told him about the place, or he found it on his own, but right now someone joined him at this spot.

Wildfire smiled to his words. Recognizing him from some of the many pictures Starfire always showed him meant he didn't have to worry about whether he was a friend or foe. He didn't recall his name, but knowing that Starfire considered him a friend was more than enough. A swift press onto his communicator in his pocket to activate his translation device so he could easier talk, Wildfire responded. "It is. I found this spot shortly after I reunited with my sister. It gives me the chance to sit secluded, but still feel close to her because her home is not far. I like the sound and rhythm of the waves, it is soothing," he explained, before looking over to the other. "You are a friend of Starfire, are you not? I think I saw you on some of her pictures before."

Now that Irma asked about it, Wildfire realized maybe he should have mentioned that before they came here.

"I... I never learned it." Which probably was obvious, because how else would he not be able to do it? It was a good thing he had the translation device, because getting together all the words to explain this would have been very difficult. "We can fly, and that is possible in water too. So, I think, we never learn swimming because we don't need to do it." Not that he knew for sure, because it was also possible that he simply hadn't been on Tamaran for long enough to learn it. But it would make sense if the tamaraneans just never saw any reason to teach - or know - how to swim. Now he wondered if there were swimming-lessons for those tamaraneans born handicapped without the ability of flight. Hmm.

"I'm sorry. I should have said so earlier." He didn't ruin the day with this, did he? Oh, but, hold on, there was another option. "Can you teach me how to swim?" Irma made it sound like it was a normal thing to know here on Earth, so perhaps he could learn it from her?
