still pulling quotes for this meta, but something that's really sticking out to me is how viserys' hygiene correlates with his descent, much like his father's. daenerys notices this, too! during the journey to vaes dothrak, his clothes practically disintegrate into rags. so much so, dany notes that he looks as though he's clothed in beggar's rags. they also smell, suggesting that he hasn't allowed his clothing to be washed, has allowed for them to become soiled and rotted with the sweat from the journey. all because he doesn't want to let go of the clothing that "makes him who he is", doesn't want to, not even for a second, don the clothing of those he considers inferior. also, viserys keeps a sachet in the sleeve of his tunic. now, the reason for this could either be that he is aware of how awful his clothing smells and he's trying to make it smell better whilst also sniffing it periodically to make his current situation seem less dire . . . or he keeps it to sniff it periodically as an affront to the dothraki, who he openly and frequently makes derogatory remarks about. it could be a mix of the two.

anyway, when dany attempts to give him beautifully crafted and regal dothraki raiment, which she very sweetly requested for him, he reacts with fury. this outburst seems to be driven by his frustration with the dothraki, who he feels have "cheated him" by not going to westeros immediately. the journey has only reminded him of the fact that he has nothing, that the only "thing" he possessed has been given away, and he has no control over what he believes to be his destiny. additionally, he has now been faced with the reality that his sister is now the one with a title, protection, and power, and she no longer cowers before him. mirroring his father, as his tendency toward acting erratically increases, his hygiene deteriorates.

thinking just a little about tcm!verse chrissy before i head to bed, because, like - there can be two options, where the stranger things events already happened beforehand, or she's just existing within tcm without her canon events happening to her, and they would definitely head in different directions.

but for the post st!verse where she survives and moves out to texas, there's just something about her getting out of there, maybe shedding cheerleading and trying to do something new, or trying to make cheerleading hers again. maybe picking a sport up for herself, while she figures out what she wants to do with herself now that her life is hers. making friends that are hers, and not people picked out by her mother. and, ultimately, ending up in that house in texas, and being so much more of a fighter than she used to be and biting back. i want her to grow and blossom and start to fight for herself so bad.

when daenerys was a child, she would often hold her own hand as a self-comfort mechanism because there was no one there to comfort her, and for her whole life, leading up to her marriage to drogo (and for some time afterward), she was afraid. even prior to the eviction from ser willem darry's estate, she was frightened by viserys' paranoid whispers about ruthless assassins and the usurper's dogs coming after them. so, daenerys developed the coping mechanism of holding her own hand, whether she was standing or sitting or curled up, awaiting sleep. often, it manifested as her clasping her fingers together before her, locking them on her lap, or weaving them together beneath a cheek/against her lips/atop her tummy (to release tension before falling asleep). this coping mechanism persisted for most of her life . . . up until she began feeling more established in her sense of comfort/sense of self among the dothraki. she still does it occasionally before sleeping, clasping her hands together and resting her cheek on top of them, but that isn’t necessarily from fear. instead, it arises from the need for comfort . . . for salvation from the immense loneliness.
