LOVE LETTER (러브 레터) was released on Valentine’s Day 2016, as JUDY’s fourth extended play. The lead single, Make Me Happy, debuted at number one on the Gaon Digital Chart, rooting itself there for seven consecutive weeks, later it would be listed at 44 on Billboard's 100 Greatest K-Pop Songs of the 2010s. The album peaked at number two on the Gaon Album Chart, dropping to five after two weeks.

MAKE ME HAPPY: The music video for Make Me Happy takes inspiration from the whimsical world of Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland, having bright colors and abnormal settings. The video takes place in a wonderland-like mansion; dreary and beautiful. While the music video is gorgeous, the story follows a plotline similar to previous releases. Judy simply wonders through the home, showcasing how her lover makes her feel – through moving paintings, shadow puppets, and movie-like scenes.

Most of the album was written by Heat Burn’s Shim Yumi and JUDY. According to Yumi, the album was inspired by JUDY, specifically My Doll and Pale Blue Dot.

JUDY considers this album a gift to SongBirds, dedicating Make Me Happy to them.

A VERY fun era for Jude! she was more active than usual on tiktok and instagram!

Compared to Killing Me Softly she looked like she actually enjoyed this era and was promoting it! She was all smiles the entire duration!

Many SongBird’s were nostalgic for her earlier eras with this EP. The tracklist reminded them of Love Letter, which was released in 2016. The music video was reminiscent of the mv for Purple Nights, while the fits were somewhat similar to Lover Girl’s outfits. Due to the throwbacks fans received, many began to worry and speculate that this would be her last release and that she’d be retiring from the music industry. However! Daphne squashed the rumors saying; “Namjoo is already planning her next release. There’s no way she’s retiring anytime soon. So, stop worrying and speculating.”

Revealed on March 15, 2018, Songbirds is the official fandom of solo artist JUDY. The meaning behind it is described as;

HONEYSUCKLE PRODUCTION ( 인동덩굴 생산 ), also called Team Honeysuckle and formerly Team Tokkijoo, is a production company decided to soloist JUDY.  Founded in 2018, it was established to give Judy more control over her music releases but later expanded to films.

Cult Creative founder Han Byungcheol announced the formation of the production company in late 2017, later giving it the placeholder title Team Tokkijoo. It was formally launched on May 9, 2018, and given the name Team Honeysuckle, he named Daphne Choi and Judy the company's owners.

In an Instagram live, Song clarified that Team Honeysuckle “isn’t seen as a company by Cult Creative, more of a team.” She added that she has limited information about the business side of its formation. Song has said she wants the team to grow, “I think it would be nice if we could support other artists, even if it's just as collaborators behind the scenes.” 

Since its formation, the team has published seventeen releases for JUDY and has yet to publish anything for other artists.

On the YouTube channel Kim Hansol’s  ‘Dolterview’ a video titled “KOREA’S SWEETHEART: Song Judy Remembers her 11 Years as an Idol” was released on the 5th.

Celebrating the approaching release of her 10th extended play, ‘Fall In Love’, Judy shared her thoughts and experiences.  Judy expressed her excitement about the release, “I’ve never been so excited to release an album.” she said, “I love all my releases but this EP is full of love.” she laughed, “I’m extremely excited for SongBirds to hear it!”

“I never thought I’d make it this far,” the singer admitted, “it feels like a dream. I’m scared I’ll wake up.” she laughed.

Judy remembered her debut, explaining how embarrassed and disheartened she felt, “I remember running off and crying as soon as I was done performing. I held in tears the entire time.” she recalled, “I was embarrassed, I kept yelling at myself ‘Why did you go up there? I should give up’ as I cried." She explained, “Years later I talked about it with Daphne and my sister. I really thought about that day and everything after our conversation. My sister, Eunjoo, yelled at me that I had no reason to be upset. She said ‘It’s them who should be embarrassed for laughing at a frightened girl and for stooping so low as to hurl insults at her’. Those words really made me think, I don’t think I agreed at the time but, now that I’ve matured I definitely do.” she continued. 

Judy would also mention how she felt releasing Ladies Night, “It was like, ‘Oh, if this fails I’d become the laughing stock of the Country once again’,” she recalled, “I didn’t want to release Ladies Night but my contract was already signed.” she added, “Daphne really pushed me to give my all with it and it paid off very well. She promised this release would be a success and all I had to do was trust her. I’m glad I did.” 

Judy talked about her time as a trainee, talking about the strict rules she had to follow, “We weren’t allowed to use our phones during the day, only in our dorms or when we went out - which was rare.” She said, “We had a curfew too.” She added, “After debut, I lost my phone and didn’t get it back until Ladies Night was released. When I was told I wasn’t allowed to have my phone I thought ‘Why? Do you pay for the service? This is unnecessary’”. She’d later add that trainees no longer have such harsh rules, “Trainees don’t have those rules anymore, only curfew is still there.” she explained, “I think the younger generations are more comfortable speaking out against unfair things, my generation of trainees were too scared I think. Many of us felt we had to deal with it because it was a privilege to even be there.”

Judy also talked about joining a group after her audition, only to be removed and put into a dorm alone. She explained she felt happy to have her own room but lonely later on. Judy looked back on how upset she felt when the group was canceled, “It felt like I lost my friends. We were all moved out of that dorm and into different rooms.” she told Hansol, “They ended up debuting together.”

When asked at what point she felt like she was famous, Judy said, “I think when Bitter was released. I had my first fan meet and the amount of people who came blew my mind.”

Hansol asked her “Do you have any dream collaborations?”, Judy responded, “No,” adding, “I don’t care who I collaborate with as long as they have a vision and passion for what they want to do.”

Judy mentioned challenging times during Killing Me Softly and coming back from hiatus when she did, “I think I’m still in the mindset I was when promoting that album, I just think I have a better way of dealing with my emotions and grief now.” she said, “Truthfully, I didn’t want to come back at that time, but I didn’t get to choose.” she adds, “I would cry in my dressing room after each performance, I cried during them at times too. It’s hard to continue living life normally when your partner isn’t with you. I had a hard time working and coming to terms with Kyungmin’s death. It’s hard to realize I have to do this without him.”  Judy concluded by sharing, “A question like ‘Where do you see yourself in the future’ is hard to answer. It’s a deep question that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to confidently answer.”  She said, “I’m scared to continue living. I don’t know how my future will turn out. But, I have no choice but to continue on so I’ll do it sincerely.”

JUDY is Cult Creative's biggest artist. Debuting in May 2013, she's had a lengthy career under the company. At the beginning of the year, Cult Creative announced the soloist would have several comebacks in 2024. However, nearly seven months into the year she's only had one, KILLING ME SOFTLY, her second full album. Fans have become frustrated with the lack of communication, among those venting their annoyance is Daphne Choi, Judy's creative director.

Daphne went to her Twitter to share her own concerns and confusion over the situation, wondering why Judy had not been given a comeback yet.

Later, she would tease the concept of Judy's next comeback and tell fans to wait a little longer. Promising that the singer will be active soon.

Understandably, hearing such concerns from a Cult Creative insider has fans even more concerned about Judy’s future. Many fans commented on past examples of mistreatment towards Judy, namely the lack of celebration for her 10th debut anniversary. Fans are disappointed but not surprised with this treatment, given how the company has treated their soloists in the past

Released on the second of September in 2013, LADIES NIGHT (숙녀의 밤) is the first single album of Cult Creative’s JUDY. The album was released with three tracks, LADY, Purple Nights, and Cherry Jubilee. The release of this album was met with instant pushback, netizens accused Cult Creative of wanting to embarrass Judy further and make her the laughingstock of the country. These comments would be squashed when Purple Nights debuted at number seven Gaon Digital Chart, later becoming one of the most popular songs to be released in 2013.

LADY: The music video for LADY is heavily based on the aesthetics of Wong Kar-wai and mid-1970 to 1980s Japan. Also gaining inspiration from anime like City Hunter and Cowboy Bebop. LADY does have a story connected to it; the music video takes place in a futuristic Seoul, and Judy plays a woman looking for a lover. Being sick of men beating around the bush, she looks for a lover who can be upfront and direct with her. The MV follows her as she goes on serval dates, most of them failing. PURPLE NIGHTS: While still following the same concept of LADY, Purple Night leans more into the dream-like imagery of Wong Kar-wai’s cinematography; with the music video having a dreamy overlay. It’s somewhat hard to differentiate whether the scenes happening in the video are actually happening or if they’re just part of a dream Judy is having. In the video, Judy wishes for a ‘movie-like love’, one that seems to always have a happy ending. LOVE IN (Summer Nights) is a collaboration song between South Korean singer-songwriter JUDY and Hiræth member POPPY, released on July 2, 2024, through Cult Creative as a pre-release single for the soloist's tenth Korean EP Fall In Love. eunjoo told her not to do this. she knew how their mom would react to — in her eyes — namjoo throwing her life away, disrespecting shinae in the biggest way possible.

it wasn’t that she didn’t want namjoo to chase her dreams, eunjoo wanted her little sister to chase her dreams, even if they ended up in a crash and burn — either way she'd be there for namjoo.

eunjoo was aware of their mom’s painfully high expectations for them — hell she was convinced those expectations were part of her divorce from their stepdad. eunjoo had her dreams too, but to please her mom she gave them up - just to keep the peace in their family.

however, namjoo was determined to succeed in her dream career — being an idol was the only thing she saw herself doing, but she rarely expressed her dreams or passion for music to her mom. she knew, or at least she assumed, her mom would shoot them down. but at the age of sixteen, she gained the courage to pursue these dreams.

quietly she auditioned for music labels, either completely failing or ending up being scammed yet she never stopped — for a full two years she auditioned for an entertainment that held open auditions. one week after her eighteenth birthday she was accepted into a legit label - cult creative records had helped with the production of many groups in the past.

as soon as she was accepted, she ran to tell her sister — who was ecstatic to hear the news. the excitement ceased once eunjoo mentioned their mother.

the siblings sat in the cramped living room, eunjoo sat next to a lazy namil while namjoo stood behind the couch. the look of determination on the girl’s face nearly made eunjoo smile, their mother stood opposite them — anger evident on her face, arms crossed.

“why is this the first i’m hearing of any of this?” shinae questioned, “why is this the first i’m hearing of skipping school and being scammed?” she asked.

namjoo did not answer. after a few moments, shinae grew annoyed by the silence coming from her daughter, she clapped her hands - shocking all three children; “speak.” she demanded.

“you’d stop me.” namjoo responded, her nails digging into her palms as she spoke.

the mother’s face grew red with anger, “stop-stop you?” she repeated in disbelief, rubbing her hands over her face, “you’re right.” she said, “this is not happening.”

“it is.” namjoo replied instantly, “it’s happening. i’ve been offered a dorm.” this was a lie, cult creative never promised a door. they told her to look for a place since getting a door isn’t guaranteed. in reality, she’d either be staying with friends or with her sister.

shinae stared at her daughter, she saw red — she was used to namjoo’s disrespect (or what she perceived as disrespect), “my answer is no.” she replied after a long moment of silence, “you’re not going to chase a career that won’t work out!” she snapped.

the tension in the room grew the longer both stood in silence. namil, who’d silently been watching them interact, stood up and hastily walked to his room — he didn’t have the energy to deal with his mom yelling at his sister. eunjoo, on the other hand, stayed in her seat.

“i want you to support me.” namjoo said, “to care about me for once,” she added, looking at the floor.

it was like a bomb went off. shinae looked crazed, if you looked close enough you’d see steam spewing out of her ears, “care for you? for once?” she repeated, her voice raising, “all everything ive ever done is care for you! ive worked three jobs, for you! to feed you, to clothe you!” she yelled, jabbing her finger into namjoo’s shoulder.

namjoo knew shinae was right, she had worked several jobs for them, all of them. however, she wasn’t the one who fed them, or made sure they got ready for school — eunjoo did all that. she wanted to yell and scream, tell shinae there’s more to parenting than making sure the kids stay alive but her energy was gone, she had none to continue.

“under my roof, you’ll listen to me.” shinae began once more, “you’ll let this shit go or leave,” she said, pointing at the front door.

namjoo could only stare. eunjoo looked between the two, her sister looked sullen while their mother was breathing heavily.

“fine.” namjoo finally spoke up, turning around, sliding on her shoes, and leaving with a loud slam. all the mother could do was watch. she didn’t expect namjoo to leave, in the past when they fought all she’d do was storm off to her room.

her eyes moved from the front door to eunjoo, disappointment painted on her face, eunjoo stood up and went to put on her shoes.

“was i wrong?” shinae asked, causing her oldest daughter to turn around, “this will fail and she’ll be devastated.”

“let it then.” eunjoo responded, “if it fails, it fails. let her experience it,” she added before leaving.

she found her sister sitting on the curb next to her car, the girl’s head was buried on her knees. she wasn’t crying, she was frozen - sitting there.

“namjoo.” eunjoo sighs, patting her head, “let’s go home,” she says softly.

Birthed and abandoned in Seoul, South Korea, Daniel was born Song Sangsoo to an unknown couple on April 21, 1959. He was adopted in October 1961 and became the youngest and only boy to Aleksie Melnik and Diana Melnik-Martins. Daniel had three older sisters, Sonya, Aaliyah and Josie. 

 He grew up in Flushing, New York, and had a relatively good life. He graduated from Flushing High School in 1977 and immediately joined the US Marine Corps, and was stationed at Camp Henry, located in Daegu, South Korea in 1978. While at Camp Henry, he met and married Yoon Shinae, a newly graduated college student. The couple married in January 1980. The newly married couple moved from Seoul to California in June of 1980. After the birth of their second daughter, Daniel and Shinae moved them back to South Korea; taking up residence in Dobong-gu.

 In 1992, Daniel was fatally shot outside a bar in Seoul, South Korea. The suspect fled and was later arrested for the shooting.

Yoon Shinae was born and raised to Farmers in Daegu, South Korea, as their second child and only daughter. Shinae has one older brother named Si-hyuk.  Growing up, and into early adulthood, Shinae was put aside in favor of her brother; Si-hyuk being labeled a chess and janggi prodigy. While Shinae in her own right had prodigy-like talents in the art of painting, her talent was not as impressive to her parents. 

Despite the lack of support from her parents and older brother, Shinae went on to thrive academically, graduating at the top of her class and being accepted into one of Korea’s top universities, Korea University; however, she would attend Ewha Women’s University. She graduated from said college with a Bachelor's in Literature. In 1979, she met US Marine Daniel Melnik-Song. They only dated for about a year when they married. 

  In 1992, Daniel was fatally shot outside a bar in Seoul, South Korea. After his death, Shinae was left alone to take care of an eleven-year-old girl and a barely one-year-old baby. The woman would be forced to take up several jobs to keep them afloat; having both her education job and working part-time at a restaurant. In the Winter of ‘94, Shinae married again, this time to a therapist named Lee Gi-ung. The couple welcomed a baby boy in March of 1995, naming him Lee Namil. Sadly, they would file for divorce before the child’s baegil.

Two decades after receiving her degree, Shinae finally began working as a full-time teacher at a high school in Suwon, thirty minutes outside Seoul.

Song Eunjoo, born Natalia Eunjoo Song, came into the world on August 29, 1981, becoming the oldest child of Shinae and Daniel. She was born in Sacramento, California in Mercy General Hospital.

Eunjoo spent much of her childhood either playing in the streets of her hometown or at after-school clubs and cram schools, taking a special interest in science in her elementary school years.

Along with her family - which now included her baby sister Judith, Eunjoo moved from Sacramento to Seoul, South Korea when she was 10. The move was hard on Eunjoo, moving so far away from her friends took a toll on her. In addition, she barely knew Korean and had trouble assimilating into her new school. She’d barely talk to anyone in school — out of school too, she focused on her science research. 

According to Eunjoo, she was bullied up until high school;

 “I had things spilled on me, I would buy kids snacks so they wouldn’t hit me. Sometimes, I’d spend my day in the nurse's office. I wasn't good at Korean and my family problems were well-known around our neighborhood. I don’t know what changed but in high school, it all stopped.”

 Her struggles with adjusting to her new environment were made even more difficult after the sudden death of her father in 1992. She isolated herself even more from her teachers and classmates; which she admitted made the bullying worse. After her dad’s death, Eunjoo was forced to take a parental role to her sister, she spent her time taking care of Judy or studying.

Eunjoo graduated early from high school in her Sophomore year. Despite having scholarships from several universities she rejected them all in favor of helping her mother support the family; which now had one more member (her half-brother Namil). However, she didn’t have to worry about her little brother, his father having primary custody of him.

At 25, Eunjoo began her college career. She attended the University of Kragujevac in Serbia, graduating in 2011, at the age of 30. Eunjoo worked at an undisclosed law firm in Serbia from 2012 to 2016 before moving back to Seoul in 2017 and becoming a professor at Dongguk University.

Lee Namil was born the only son and youngest child to Yoon Shinae and the third son to Lee Gi-ung. Outside of his sister, Namil has three older siblings; two brothers one sister, and two younger siblings; a set of twin girls. In contrast to Eunjoo and Namjoo, he had a fairly peaceful life. He grew up in Busan. From a young age, he had a keen interest in sports, influenced by his oldest brother’s passion for track and field. His interest was in Tennis.

Much of Namil’s early years were spent playing tennis or working part-time at his step-mother’s restaurant. Academically, Namil did the bare minimum; only doing so much so he could stay a part of his high school’s tennis team. At graduation, he nearly flunked.

After high school, Namil spent a year working for his stepmother before enlisting and completing his mandatory military service. 

After his military service ended, Namil began to focus on his professional tennis career; competing in any tournament he could. He made his official debut at the French Open in 2019, losing in the 3rd round. He later competed in the Wimbledon Championships, making it to the quarterfinals before withdrawing out. Namil has had an extremely successful tennis career. He nearly qualified to represent South Korea in the 2024 Olympics.

She’s always preferred her Korean name over her English one. She thinks Namjoo fits her better than Judith does.

She auditioned for Cult Creative with two songs; I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston and Baby One More Time by Britney Spears

As a kid, she’d take care of stray animals around her apartment complex - at one point she secretly kept a kitten in her room for months.

She’s said that if being an idol didn’t work out she’d probably be a history teacher

She didn’t get her own staff members until 3 years after debut, so Daphne would be incharge of everything (including putting together her stage outfits and make up)

She almost debuted with the name Jane

She likes producing and writing for other artists more than herself, however a majority of her song credits are for her own songs

During her trainee years, she’d stay up past curfew practicing her dance, she’d gotten in trouble many times

She came up with her fandom name SongBirds because “I want us all to sing together.”

She was friends with IU before her debut

When she has a hard time sleeping, she’ll go for walks. According to Daphne Choi, she’s been doing this since pre-debut and it’s caused her to panic and search for Judy many times

At times Judy wishes she debuted in a group so she wouldn’t be as lonely

Her older sister is her biggest fan, she always brags about Judy on her instagram page

During her contract negotiations in 2020, it was reported that she wouldn’t sign with Cult Creative again and that plummeted their stocks for two days

HEART ATTACK (심장마비) is the debut extended soloist of  JUDY, released on May 2, 2013. It contains seven tracks, including the lead single “Heart Attack”. Along with the title track music video, b-sides “Hard to Love” and “Rendezvous”, the latter features soloist IU and Grace of LilyPad. 

The extended play failed to enter any charts or win any music shows. However, despite the amount of hate and criticism it got, it was a resurgence in 2019 after the title track went viral and charted on the Gaon Music Chart - peaking at number one.

⏤    MUSIC VIDEO LORE !

LOVE&LIVE ( track video ): Despite being somewhat mundane, the track video for the album does hold some lore for the main music videos. There are scenes of two faceless girls, dancing and messing around - running through hallways, accidentally running into classmates, and being teenagers. An odd atmosphere surrounded the duo, one giving off the feeling that she was hesitating, but why?  ( dir. seo sooyoung )

  HEART ATTACK: The video opens with Judy sitting at a desk near a window, her chin resting in the palm of her hand, and her elbow on the desk. White headphones in her ears, connected to her phone, a faint instrument could be heard. She’s looking across the room, at a classmate seated by the door to the room, the camera pans to the classmate before cutting to black and showing the title card. The rest of the music video shows Judy trying to get the classmate’s attention, whether it be with gifts of teddy bears or sweets. Some parts of the video show Judy drawing them holding hands on a piece of paper and putting ‘ J & M’ in a heart with chalk. Sadly, the video ends with Judy failing to get her classmate’s attention.  ( dir. seo sooyoung )

  RENDEZVOUS (featuring IU and Grace of LilyPad): Rendezvous is a performance video but still has pieces of lore within it, mostly calling back to Heart Attack’s MV. Most of the callbacks are around the outfits and setting pieces. Their outfits were school uniforms or had red or white in them (which were colors that came up often in the mv). The sets were full of hearts, a school set, and a courtyard - which was a reference to the main performance in the music video (which consisted of freeze-framed students and judy dancing) ( dir. yeon siwan )

  HARD TO LOVE: This video was a live performance, this video did not have lore from Heart Attack. Judy stands in front of an almost empty audience, the only person being a woman whose face is shrouded in darkness - theorists would later theorize that the woman was the classmate from the Heart Attack music video. Judy’s debut stage had many incidents happen, most notably the amount of hecklers. Many audience members hurled insults at her for even stepping on the stage. Some audience members would take to social media to criticize both the music show, M Countdown, and Cult Creative for forcing the poor girl to perform under those circumstances.

During a 2020 interview, Judy recalled how she felt; “It was the most traumatic I think that’s ever happened to me,” she said, “I couldn’t even see the people yelling at me because of the stage lights and I think that made it so much worse. After that, I didn’t even stay that long. I left after changing. I isolated myself for a while too. It was hard to get myself to do most things - especially sleep. I’d dream about it almost every night. It was hard to even be in a crowded room for a long time after.”

In 2021, an unknown source revealed Judy co-wrote three of the four songs; Heart Attack, Rendezvous, and Hard to Love. These rumors caused a stampede of hate towards Cult Creative and Daphne Choi, who confirmed the rumors fairly fast. Daphne would release a statement later that year, saying Judy requested she not be credited

The Angelbong ( 엔젤라이트스틱 ) is the official name of the Cult Creative soloist's lightstick. As of 2024, three versions have been released, all released on important dates for the soloist.

ANGELBONG V1 was released on May 2, 2014, the first anniversary of her debut. Thanks to the popularity she obtained with her latest releases, it was a big success. Despite its success, the lightstick did come with some technical difficulties. For instance, the heart inside was supposed to spin but at times it would randomly stop, like something was caught in the motor's gears. Another issue was the battery pack would randomly fall out of the bottom of the lightstick.

ANGELBONG V2 released on the fifth anniversary of JUDY’s debut, as a gift to fans. Its release was announced via a video, that featured Judy herself, announcing the lightstick and thanking fans; SongBirds (the name given to them two months prior), for sticking with her for half a decade. 

While her last lightstick was a success, this one did much better - considering she’s established herself in the music industry much better. It sold out within three days, becoming the most successful item to be sold on cult creative’s site, being dethroned by the Birdie plushie that was released two years later. 

Unlike the previous version, this one was met with less technical difficulties. The only notable problem that was reported was the detachable crown on top popping off occasionally.

Like the previous, this version was released on her debut anniversary — her tenth anniversary. ANGELBONG V3 was met with a mixed reaction, some loved the new look while others preferred the previous look. Despite the mixed reaction, the lightstick sold out in about the same amount of time as the previous version. V3 didn’t have any notable problems.
